"Morning, Manon," Nadja smiled at her five year old daughter.
"Morning, Mommy!!" Manon giggled.
"Ready to go to Marinette's?" She asked the girl.
"Yes YES YESS!!!" Manon exclaimed.
Nadja winced at the loud noice, she woke up with an excruciating headache and this was definitely not helping. She was super glad Marinette was ok with babysitting Manon, she already had a lot on her hand with work this morning (even though it was the weekend). They reached the bakery and Marinette wasn't even there.
"I'm sorry Nadja, Marinette had a school project she and her friends didn't finish and had to rush over there to help. If you want, we can watch Manon for you?" Sabine suggested.
Sabine and Nadja were friends since high school so she has known Marinette since she was a baby. She was basically her godmother. The thing is, Marinette was a calm little girl so Sabine didn't really have it hard. But Manon... could be a handful and definitely would have a sugar rush with all the pastries. Nadja definitely didn't want to deal with that.
"It's ok Sabine, I'll take her to the office. Thank you though!"
"Alright Nadja, sorry for the inconvenience."
Nadja sighed and got back in the car.
"Where's Marinette, Mommy?" Manon asked.
"Marinette's busy today so you'll go to work with me," Nadja explained.
"Yay! I'm going to work with Mommy, going to work with Mommy!" Manon chanted.
The reporter sighed, her headache worsening. It was gonna be a long day.
They reached the news station and Clara, Nadja's co-worker, waved at them, "Hey, Nadja, hi Manon!!"
"Hey Clara! Are you ok with watching Manon for me? Marinette had a school project issue," Nadja asked.
"Of course! Besides, that makes sense. It always baffled me how that girl multitasked so well," Clara mused.
"Well... she is Sabine's daughter," Nadja shrugged.
Clara nodded, "That is true, and you better head up. Arlette is getting a bit... impatient."
Nadja sighed for the umpteenth time today, "That sounds great." She headed to Arlette's office on the fifth floor. (A/N: Is it just me or am I just obsessed with the fifth floor of buildings??)
"Hello Nadja," Arlette, her boss, frowned, "You're late."
"I'm sorry, Arlette. I had to get someone to watch Manon, besides, it's the weekend," Nadja explained.
"Alright, so the reason I called you here was because...." She dragged on and Nadja nearly fell asleep.
By the end of the two hour meeting, Nadja was so done.
"Mommy!!!" Manon screeched.
"Hey honey," Nadja winced, headache had turned to a migraine now, "Ready to go home?"
"Yep!!"
"Hate to do this to you Nadja but... you have some paperwork to finish," Clara smiled nervously.
Her eye twitched, "How much?"
Clara gulped and showed her the stack, "This much?"
Nadja was silent for a minute too long. She then smiled tiredly, "You know what? Screw it! I'll just blow it up and call it a day," She then grabbed the paperwork and Manon and trudged out the door.
