Kwami-Fever Part 1
Marinette was at her wits' end. Who knew kwamis could suffer from hayfever?
Okay, so maybe it wasn't hay fever in the most conventional of ways, it was more like an allergy to some cheap material Marinette had ordered through eBay. Despite that, Tikki continued to sneeze like a woodpecker on caffeine tapping Morse code.
Marinette grabbed the iPad and began flicking through the grimoire for ideas. She had a date with Adrien later that evening and the last thing she wanted was to out herself thanks to her kwami's allergic reaction to a specialist cotton.
'There's got to be something I can give you to stop this. Some kind of antihistamine.'
'I—' achoo! '—don't' achoo! '—know!' Achoo, achoo!
Marinette slammed her hands to her head before collapsing on the table, her head banging, once, twice, three times on the iPad. 'There must be something! I just need to use my head!'
'Marinette! LOOK!' a thick snot-like voice called to her. She lifted her head to Tikki who was looking down at the bright screen. It seems using her head was indeed the best idea, as now, on the screen, was a recipe for a rather complex medicine.
Lifting the device, Marinette studied the ingredients. It seemed straightforward in essence, nothing out of the ordinary. But the mixing looked a bit of a challenge. The whole thing seemed to take two hours, so...
*****
She looked at the time on her phone, checking how long she had until meeting Adrien.
Three hours. Excellent.
If she started now then it would be done by the time she had to leave...which would also be great if there happened to be an akuma. Marinette was almost certain she wouldn't be able to transform whilst Tikki was sneezing her own theme tune.
With a new found optimism, Marinette gathered the ingredients and found her home chemistry set. She was the guardian. She could do this. What could possibly go wrong?
Marinette walked backwards and forwards, her thumbnail slowly being chewed down to the quick as she studied the three kwamis in front of her.
Everything had been going to plan. She'd got the ingredients, cut them properly, and added them to the mix at the most perfect time. Everything had been going swimmingly. Everything until Tikki sneezed into the mix. It seemed the added kwami snot was the downfall to the recipe.
After taking an overfilled spoon of medicine, Tikki sneezed again, though this time two balls of light shot out from her nostrils like popcorn kernels from a cannon...and that's how they found themselves in quite the situation with only forty minutes until she needed to meet Adrien.
'I'm sorry, Marinette.' Tikki looked down, her fins playing together in front of her.
Marinette pouted, unsure what to do. Two tiny kwamis flew chaotically around her room, bouncing from wall to wall and destroying everything from a desk lamp to her mannequin.
'Yeah, well, there's nothing that can be done about it at the moment.' A crash alerted Marinette to the small fox-like kwami flying head first into a poster of Adrien. She couldn't help but wince as the tiny terror put a rather unflattering piercing in her boyfriend's nose. She cupped her mouth to whisper to her kwami. 'Will I have to keep them forever? They don't have any jewellery to transform with.'
Marinette ducked just as a small white fox flew overhead. This was too much like Frozen Fever for her liking. Forget Snowgies these were magical kwamogies. Miraculogies? Okay, she'd work on the name later. But for now she needed to work on what she was going to do with two tiny magical creatures when she had a date with her love for life in the next thirty-eight minutes.
Tikki grimaced. 'If they're what I think they are, we've got them for the next twenty-four hours. And believe me, baby kwamis need a lot of care.'
'A day!' Marinette shrieked, just as the sudden sound of destruction had her wincing, her head scanning the room for what had met its comeuppance.
'Give or take.'
Twenty-four hours? But she had a date with Adrien, and collège—what was she meant to do with two tiny Kwogies?
Marinette grabbed her hair. 'I can't have both of these with me all day. It's hard enough making sure you stay out of mischief, I can't cope with another Kwamibuster episode.'
'You know for a fact that was Plagg's fault!' Tikki said sternly.
An idea hit her like Chat Noir's baton during a game of baseball. Plagg! Chat Noir was always saying he wanted to help her out, and look at this! A time where she actually needed his help. Oh, happy days!
'I've got it! Chat Noir can take care of one, and I'll have the other.'
Tikki frowned as the small jaguar type kwami, spiralled uncoordinatedly into Marinette's mirror, rebounded into the sink, and then crash-landed in the porcelain bowl alongside Marinette's toothbrush and toothpaste.
'I don't know, Marinette. He might have other things to do. Doesn't he always say he has a busy life? And now he has a girlfriend...'
'I have an Adrien, and I'm doing this. Plus, he always says I'm priority. This job is his priority.'
Tikki looked thoughtful for a moment, a white fox kwami flying over her head to hover near the jaguar only to blow a long, loud raspberry in its face.
'Shhh!' Marinette launched forward, intending to capture the little terrors, but instead ended up tripping over her desk chair and falling flat onto the floor. 'How did that get there?' she exclaimed.
Both kwamis snickered before flying off again.
Her gaze moved from two giggling kwamis to an apologetic looking one. 'So, what do you think?'
'Well,' Tikki began, 'I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask.'
'Do you feel well enough to transform?'
Tikki thought for a moment before nodding. 'I don't feel the need to sneeze anymore.'
'Excellent! Last thing we want is extra Ladybug's running around.'
With a quick transformation Ladybug managed to Lucky Charm a cage full of treats and lure the kwamis inside. It was time to find the kitty cat.

Chat Noir stood on their usual rooftop, (im)patiently waiting for his Lady's arrival. He had graciously taken today's patrol due to Ladybug's hot date with her boyfriend, all the girls he knew took a lot longer than he did to get ready. But now it was getting too close to the time he should be meeting Marinette.
Where the hell was Ladybug?
He'd planned this date for weeks - he'd wanted it to be perfect - but when Ladybug called needing his help he couldn't exactly say no. They'd both agreed that until the butterfly Miraculous was back in the box, their job would be their number one priority. He kicked a stone across the rooftop, maybe this was a stupid deal.
Chat Noir continued to pace, gazing over the rooftops for any sign of red. 'Come on, LB. I've got places to go and a beautiful girl to see.'
Taking the baton from his lower back, he began to spin it in between his fingers, before finally holding the baton to his eye. A dominatrix variant of Captain Hook – Killian Jones had nothing on him. 'There she blows!'
Her silhouette came closer and closer, at a frighteningly fast speed. Oh dear!
With only a few rooftops to go, there was one thing for certain—she wasn't slowing down. His eyes widened, preparing to catch her as she swung one last time and launched herself slightly too high into the sky, her eyes widening and arms flinging around. Merde!
Swinging his baton onto his back, Chat Noir prepared his position; legs apart; back straight and eye on the prize. A couple of steps to the right, one backwards to the left and...
'Nice of you to drop in, Bugaboo,' Chat Noir said with a smile. His partner let out a choked laugh as she sprung out of his arms and dusted herself off.
'Sorry, just in a bit of a rush.'
Chat Noir crossed his arms, wiggling his eyebrows at her. 'Hot date?'
Her cheeks reddened adorably. 'Something like that.'
'We don't want you injured then.'
Ladybug waved him off. 'Don't worry about it. He's used to me hurting myself.'
'So, if you have somewhere you need to be, why are you here?' He looked her over, wondering if there was something there that would give him the answer to his question. Instead she looked nervous...very, very nervous. More nervous than when she approached him about the rest of the team becoming permanent holders.
'There's been a slight...change in my kwami circumstances.' She lifted one shoulder, her cheeks flushing a little pink.
'A slight change?'
She opened her yo-yo, and out flew a small jaguar and an Arctic fox. Two kwami's he'd never seen before.
They looked adorable.
'Where did you find these?' he asked.
'Tikki sneezed and they flew out.'
'Like bogies?'
She tilted her head side to side. 'I like to call them, Kwogies.'
'Kwogies?' Chat Noir questioned, lifting a hand and allowing the fox to come and settle on it. Damn, this one was cute! If he could, he would easily swap Plagg for it – it was way more adorable.
'Yeah, like kwami and bogies. Kwogies!'
He nodded his head. 'That's good. Frozen inspired?'
'Yeah. I was running through different names for them and bam it just hit me.'
'It has a nice ring to it. So, how can I help you?'
He watched as Ladybug grabbed the other kwami from its loop in the air and held it tightly to her chest. They let out the most adorable sound as it nuzzled into her and yawned.
'Well, I have this date tonight and I can't really take both of these out with me. So, I thought maybe, you could have one to look after and I'll take the other.'
'Oh!' His mouth pronounced the word, slowly, deliberately.
She stepped towards him, her eyes growing and her expression all but begging him. 'I know it's a lot to ask, but I thought it was only fair that Tikki looked after one, and Plagg the other.'
Chat Noir snorted. 'Plagg can't even look after himself.'
'Please,' she responded quickly, and he was sure if her hands weren't holding a kwami she'd be begging him. 'Please! I've been looking forward to this date for weeks and you've always said you wanted to help me, so pleaseee help me.'
'Way to guilt trip a guy,' he huffed, stroking a hand over the kwami's fluffy head. Ladybug was right about him wanting to help and she had one too, so he thought it was fair. He looked at the kwami in his hand. It was so tiny, and it didn't look like it could cause any trouble. Maybe, it would be okay. 'How long for?'
'Tikki said they should disappear within twenty-four hours.'
'And if they don't?' he questioned.
She shrugged. 'I'll contact Su-Han.'
Chat Noir snorted. Like he'd be of any use.
He looked down at the small jaguar now curled up in the palm of his hand. It was so cute! 'Okay, twenty-four hours. But if this Kwogey messes up my date, I want some sort of compensation.'
'Name your price.'
'I want to reveal my identity to my girlfriend.'
Ladybug gasped. 'What? Why?'
'Because I need to talk to someone about all of this, and if things are going to keep ruining our dates I want to be able to tell her why. This girl means everything to me. I don't want to mess it up.'
Her face softened. 'You're such a cutie pie sometimes, you know.'
'Sometimes? I'm deeply offended by that.'
She moved one hand from the kwami and tapped his cheek. 'You know I don't mean it. But yes, if they mess up the date you can reveal...as long as I can reveal myself to my boyfriend too.'
He laughed. 'Sure, that sounds like a good plan. So what's this little guy's name?' Chat Noir held the fox up in front of him and studied it. It really was a stunning little kwami.
'You can choose. They don't talk or anything, and they came out of Tikki's nose, so...'
He looked it over again, studying the cute face and wild eyes. 'Aniime,' Chat Noir claimed. The kwami buried himself into his hand and gently purred.
'He seems to like it,' Ladybug giggled, pulling the small jaguar away from her chest. 'And you can be...' She trailed off, pursing her lips as she thought about it. 'Fuumble.'
The jaguar stuck its tongue out to one side and Chat Noir was almost certain one of its eyes were spinning. He was like the dog from Coco.
'We'll meet back here tomorrow. Four okay?'
Chat Noir nodded. 'Four, it is. Have a great date.'
'You too.'
'Oh, I will.'
They both smiled at each other before turning with their new kwami at their chest and launching out into the late afternoon sky.
Chat Noir wasn't sure how Plagg would react to learning he'd be babysitting for the next twenty-three hours. But as long as the date with Marinette went well, he really didn't care.
