Chapter 12

He looked up at me with complete and utter shock.

"W-What do you mean?" He stuttered.

"You've done more than enough for me,  Adrien." I said with a bittersweet smile, "I've held you back long enough. I can't live with myself if I'm keeping you away from the... the sport y-you love...."

When I started to stutter, I looked down at the ground. I couldn't face him.

"Thank you for everything, Adrien." I said, "Thank you for being my coach."

As I looked at his feet, I saw teardrops fall to the ground, but they weren't mine.

Looking up, I saw that Adrien was crying, almost physically shaking. He clenched his hands on his knees.

"Adrien?" I asked, confused, "Adrien why aren't you saying anything?"

"I'M MAD OKAY?!" He shouted. Then he lowered his voice down, "A-And I'm sad okay. I just thought... I thought..."

"W-What? I thought you said you were just coaching me until the end of the Grand Prix Final-"

"That was before I..." He looked up, "I realized I needed you, Marinette. I still need you. I thought you needed me too."

"Adrien I-I do need you!" I shouted, starting to get mad, "I thought you wanted to leave! I thought this was all just a temporary thing- until you went back to Chloé and your father!"

"Well maybe I don't-" He tried to interrupt me, but I wouldn't let him.

"I'M NOT FINISHED." I stated firmly. Taking a deep breath, I said, "Chloé misses you. Your father misses you. And I know you miss skating, you can't deny that. I know you do. I'm trying to do this for you."

We couldn't reach a decision, and neither of us wanted to yell anymore. So we decided we would choose our own paths after the free skate.

-----

Together we watched Lila skate from backstage on the TV screens. She seemed to have gotten over her nerves, and landed most of her jumps; making some of her signature changes to the choreography to surprise the audience.

We went back to the entrance of the arena as Alix started her performance. I sat on a bench and started tying my laces to the tune of cheers from the crowd.

Once done, I looked up at Adrien. A swarm of memories flooded my head, and I tried to ignore them as we walked out into the arena.

The lights were blinding as I skated out onto the ice. I turned around and looked at Adrien, who only gave a sad smile.

"I know you can win gold, Mari," Adrien said, "Believe in yourself."

He hugged me, and I didn't want to let go. I held back tears before he grabbed my hand. We reached out to each other as I skated away.

The crowd cheered, but quickly hushed as I took my opening pose. The music began.

As I skated across the ice, going into the first jumped combination, my mind flashed back to the first time I saw Adrien skate.

All I could think of was, "Thank you."

This was my thanks.

And I have so many people to thank.

Another jump landed, but I needed to have a better than perfect performance in order to get the gold.

I changed the choreography in my jumps.

I kept changing the jumps, adding more and more quad jumps.

As I went into the step sequence, I realized that I didn't want to stop. I didn't want this to end. I wanted to skate, to skate with Adrien forever.

Spinning into my ending pose, I finished what I had planned to be my last skating performance, but I knew this story would never end.

-----

When my score was revealed, not only had I beaten a personal best, but I broke a world record for the first time.

Adrien held out a hand for me to shake, but I grabbed it and pulled him into a hug.

"I never want this to end, Adrien."

He smiled, "So you're not quitting?" He asked.

"Only if you skate with me."

He let me go and smiled excitedly, nodding his head.

-----

Before Chloé went out on the ice, Adrien found his father.

"Father! I-I need to tell you something!" He shouted down the hallway.

Gabriel Agreste turned around and glared at his son, "I don't have time to talk to you. Chloé is about to skate!" He began to turn away.

"I'm coming back."

Gabriel whipped his head around, "What?!"

"I'm coming back to skating, and I'd like you to be our coach."

"Our?" Chloé asked, taking out her earbuds.

"Marinette and I." Adrien responded.

"What do you mean?!" Gabriel said.

"Marinette and I want to become your students." Adrien said, "Well, me for a second time, but yeah, um... Chloé?"

Chloé looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.

Adrien engulfed her in a hug. She almost jumped in shock. Adrien whispered, "You were my first friend Chloé. I hope you know that. I hope we can be friends again, all three of us."

-----

As Chloé went onto the ice, Adrien and I cheered. If we were going to be practicing in the same rink, we needed to support each other.

Chloé waved her arms as she skated onto the ice, but she didn't smile, her face was completely undaunted, despite the fact that she might be incredibly nervous.

She landed most of her jumps, but over estimated one of her jumps and had a big fall. Other than that her performance was flawless.

When her score was announced, I crossed my fingers. I was guaranteed a spot on the podium already from the scores of the other skaters, but I was still nervous because I was already in first place and I wanted to stay there.

"Chloé Bourgeois has beaten her own personal best, and has beaten Marinette Dupain-Cheng by 0.12 points! She has taken first place!"

I had one silver. I was on the podium for the first time. As soon as the ceremony was over, I ran to Adrien and gave him a big hug and kiss.

-----

EPILOGUE:

"Here we have woman's singles silver medalist, Marinette Dupain-Cheng." The announcers said as my music began.

Adrien was in the rink too...

Butt this time not as my coach...

"Here comes her partner in her piece, Adrien Agreste."

I smiled as he danced out onto the ice and we began to skate in sinc to a song that we had made just for us. I hummed the words as the song blasted throughout the stadium.

"Miraculous, simply the best, up to the test when things go wrong..."

"Miraculous, the luckiest, the power of love always so strong..."

We call everything on the ice love.

THE END
