17: the brain can be persuaded
"Your late. Again." Chat glared at me. This was my fourth time being late to patrol.
For the past week Chat has had a real sour attitude. I tried to get what was wrong out of him, but he continuously avoided my prying.
"I'm sorry," I replied somewhat sheepishly. I was sorry, but I couldn't explain that between rehearsals, costume design, and spending time with my boyfriend, it was difficult getting to patrol.
"Whatever, just report here in an hour."
"Y-yeah of course."
His hostility was really getting to me.
After patrol I went home and started doing my homework. But it was hard to focus.
"I really wish I knew what was up with Chat." I said to Tiki.
"Yeah, he seems stressed out." Tiki said.
There was a light knock on my window, causing me to jump.
I looked over and saw none other than Chat Noir.
I let him in.
It was weird because his nightly visits had stopped for the past few weeks, and now suddenly here he was.
"Hi." I said, blinking in shock.
"Hi," Chat said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Are you okay?"
"Honestly no." Chat told me.
"Tell me what's up."
"There was this girl I really liked, and I thought she liked me too. But then suddenly she tells me she cant see me anymore, that what we had wasn't even real!"
"That's awful." I told him, and then was struck with guilt. That's exactly what I did to Adrien as Ladybug. However when I saw Adrien at school, he acted completely normal. Which was so not like Chat.
"I don't know what to do." Chat whispered. I could see tears forming in his eyes.
I pulled him in for a hug.
"I know this is probably not what you want to here right now, but you should move on. Obviously this other girl has, so maybe you should too."
"Your right." Chat said.
I smiled at him, glad, that I could be of help.
And then he kissed me.
He was a fantastic kisser, and he kept pulling me closer even though our bodies were touching.
He made my heart race, and unlike kissing Luka, this felt mysterious, dangerous even, and it made me want more.
And then Luka's image popped into my head. Luka, as in my boyfriend Luka.
I pulled away, and Chat looked at me, confusion in his eyes.
"I have a boyfriend, Chat."
He eyes widened.
"Crap, I forgot." He said.
"Its okay, I should have- wait what do you mean you forgot?" I asked. As far as I knew, I never told Chat about Luka.
"Uh, nothing! I got to go, bye!" Chat said, then scurried out the window, leaving me in wonder.
********************************
"She froze my heart, and only an act of true love can save me." I whispered to Hans weekly.
"A true loves kiss..." Hans said, the idea dawning on him.
He leaned forward, and I closed my eyes, waiting for the kiss that I knew would never come.
I was shocked when our lips actually did touch. I felt myself involuntarily smile.
"Cut!" Mrs. Jean yelled.
"Get a room." Chloe rolled her eyes.
"Hans is not supposed to kiss Anna!" Mrs. Jean yelled at Luka.
"Sorry ma'am." Luka chuckled. "Its not my fault this particular Anna is smoking hot."
There was some laughter and I felt myself blush.
"Well please, constrain yourself, Mr. Couffaine."
"Can't make any promises but I'll try." Luka winked.
I couldn't help but giggle.
"Lets just skip to the scene where Hans is confronting Elsa, we will have Luka and Celeste over here, and on the opposite side I need Marinette, Adrien and Nino." Mrs. Jean ordered.
Rehearsals went on for another hour. At some point Lila had snuck her way in, dropping sarcastic comments pointed towards me.
I was happy when it was over.
"I could have done better." Lila whispered.
"You could have only done better at being worse than Mari-trash." Chloe sneered at Lila.
Lila gasped and put her hands over her eyes, pretending to cry.
I gave Chloe a look of thanks, but she pointedly looked away, and sashayed out the door.
"Don't worry Li, she's mean to everyone." Alya comforted.
I felt hurt. Alya was my friend, it should have been her sticking up for me and not Chloe.
I talked to Mrs. Jean about the costumes before meeting up with Luka.
Surprisingly Adrien was talking to Luka. Usually he leaves with Nino, Alya, and Lila.
Neither boy had seen me, and before I knew it, I had my back to the wall and was listening in on their conversations.
"Marinette, you know it's wrong to eavesdrop." Tiki scolded me.
"Shh! I can't hear." I whispered at the qwuami.
"What do you care?" Luka asked Adrien.
"Well she is my friend, and I dont want her to get involved in anything that's not good for her." Adrien said.
"Trust me, Marinette is fine." Luka replied.
"You mean like how fine she was at that party you dragged her to?"
I blinked back in shock. Adrien sounded....mean.
"That....that will never happen again." Luka said defensively.
"It better not."
The two boys were glaring at each other, fists curled at there sides. I had to stop them before they got out of hand.
I stepped away from the wall and ran to Luka and jumped onto his back.
I kissed him on the back of his neck and felt the tension fade away.
I looked up and smiled at Adrien.
"Hi Adrien."
"Hey, Mari." Adrien said, his fist unfurling. His smile was kind but their was a hint of something a little darker in his eyes.
Was it... jealousy? No it couldn't be. Adrien loved Ladybug, but he only wanted to be friends with Marinette.
"I have band practice, wanna come?" Luka asked me.
"Can't, I have to go finish the costumes." I told him apologetically.
"Its cool babe, maybe Adrien will walk you home then?" Luka suggested, holding his hand out to Adrien like a peace offering.
"Of course." Adrien said, taking Luka's hand.
I was glad to see that they were both on good terms again.
Adrien and I were about a block away from my house when he spoke about his break up.
"Remember when I told you I was dating ladybug?" Adrien asked.
"Yeah?" I asked, feeling a little guilty.
"She broke things off with me."
"That's awful!"
"Yeah it was at first, and then out of nowhere, I noticed this other girl."
"Oh. Well that's good." I said, a little disappointed. There was still a part of me that was crushing on Adrien.
"Yeah. Except she has a boyfriend, so it's not like a can say anything to her or tell her how I feel." Adrien confessed.
"Why not, just because she's dating someone, doesn't mean that you can't let her know how you feel."
"So I should just tell her?" Adrien asked.
"Yeah."
"Marinette, I have something to tell you."
