Expecting 101 one-shot story by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)

Description

Chole is expecting a baby boy.  How will she tell Luka?

     Luka's  POV:

I  can tell something bothers Chole.  I wish she would speak to me about it.

It is almost like she does not trust me.  We have been married for three years.

What could she have to hide?  Did I do something wrong?

I see her come home in tears.  I take it her latest doctor's appointment did not go well.

"Chole, what is the matter?  Did you receive bad news?"

"I am healthy, and our son is in excellent condition."

I  see her weak smile.  Did she say, son?

      "Chole, you are pregnant?"

"Yes, please do not be angry."

"I am going to be a father!"

I hug her but notice her face is pale.

      I  do not understand.

      "Chole, sweetheart?"

       "Luka, I am sorry."

       "Chole, do not be sorry."

"I am glad to know you are the mother of my child."

I watch as she looks at the ground in shame.

"Luka, he is not your son.  You are not the father."

I recall I was in quarantine for two months in another country.

I look at her in horror.  Did she cheat on me?

"Chole, who is he?  The father, I mean."

          I dare to ask.

"I do not know him.  I  hear he is dead.  Supposedly, he died in an alleyway all alone."

"I mean, he came by once.  I never knew his name until he was dead.  I know it is his because I am too far along for the baby to be yours."

I  hold her in my arms.  "Shh, I will not leave you or the baby."

Chole relaxes.  I  smile as she dozes off.  I  carry her to our room.

I kiss her forehead.  I love her and the boy.

Six months later, I stand by as the doctor tells me the bad news.

"Luka Cuffaine, your son was born early.  He is healthy at six pounds and  two ounces."

"What about by my wife, Chole Cuffaine?"

"I am afraid her blood sugar is low.  We will have to keep her under observation."

I shed a tear. I have a strappy son, but my wife's health is bad.
