A Tear, Roses, and Love by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)
Description:
What happens when two friends have to part ways for a while? Will they ever see each other again?
Third Person POV:
Luka smiled when he saw her. She was glad to see him. The two had met at a young age,and been together almost every day since. Today, was special because he had to tell her. Oh, but it would be hard.
"Hi, Luka," Chole says.
"Hi, Chole," Luka says.
Chole notices Luka appears to be distracted like something is on his mind. What could it be? She hugs him. He hugs her. He hates to have to tell her. He can't go without letting her know.
"Chole, I am sorry," Luka remarks.
"Sorry, for what? You have always been there for me, and I am for you. There is nothing to be sorry for," Chole replies.
"Don't that will only make it worse," Luka remarks. He feels like his heart will break more as he explains everything. Well, almost everything.
"W-what? Luka, what do you mean?" Chole asks.
"It means I have to go away for two years," Luka replies. He sighs when Chole starts to tear up. He feels so bad. He wishes there were some way to get out of it.
"Two years to where?" Chole responds. She sees the tears form in his eyes. She can't understand.
"I -I was drafted," Luka responds. "I have my orders and I have to head out tomorrow," He says.
"Tomorrow, b-but, we only got to see each other once this week since you were away most of the summer," Chole whines.
"I know, and it is not fair for me to make you wait," Luka answers. He hands her two roses.
"Chole, I-I..." He finds the words harder than he thought. He ends up kissing her.
Chole returns the kiss. She feels like she may be sick. Luka is going away tomorrow and he has no choice about it. She thought.
Chole pulls away. "Luka, I love you," She confesses.
"You don't know how good it feels to hear you, say those words," Luka says.
Luka takes Chole on one last day before he has to leave. The two make the most of it. They enjoy a nice meal together, they dance, and Chole gives Luka something of hers. She hands him a small box. "It is a token of my love for you," She says.
Luka nods. He puts on the brooch. He and Chole look at the stars together. It gets late, so he takes her home. He kisses her again. "Good night, Chole," He says.
"Good night, Luka," Chole replies.
The next morning, Chole goes to see him off. Luka hates this. He has hated goodbyes ever since his father died. He has hated goodbyes since his mother ran off with a fellow she met at the office. He has hated goodbyes since he first found out this day would come.
"I promise to write," Chole tells him.
"I promise to write back," Luka remarks.
Neither of them knows that day is the one that will make all the difference in the world to them both. Luka kisses her one last time. Chole kisses him. When he pulls away and climbs aboard the train she knows this is it.
"Farewell, Luka, I love you," Chole says.
"Farwell, Chole, see you later, I love you too," Luka says.
With that, the train leaves the station and Chole feels like a piece of her heart went with Luka. She sobs and sobs.
Time skip...
Four months later, Chole and Luka have kept in touch as promised. Some boys have tried to get her attention, but she only loves her Luka. She doesn't know how but today's letter included a rose with it.
Dear Chole,
I miss you so much, darling. Life over here is dull without you.
Everything is so depressing. I suppose that is how war is it ruins lives, destroys, and parts those we love from his. One of the soldiers who was digging a trench with me died when a mortar hit him. I felt so guilty because I survived. I only made it because I returned to the mess hall for a second helping of dinner. I feel so bad for his family.
Anyway, your letters give me hope. Don't ever stop writing you hear?
Love,
yours,
Luka
PS. I found a lovely rose outside the mess hall that reminded me of you because it is pretty. You are more beautiful than any rose.
Chole blushed as she reread the letter and held the rose. She put the flower inside a vase of water.
As the months went by Chole wrote to him and him to her. She kept all the letters, and the roses he would send with him. She longed for the day he would return.
Luka kept all the letters she sent to him and longed for the day he could return to her.
One day, so many months later, Luka was sent back home. He felt like a nervous wreck as he stood on Chole's porch. He had no idea why since she had kept her promise. He worried when he rang the bell that maybe he was to late and she had found another's arms to hold her.
He started to walk away, but someone walked outside and grabbed his arm. "Luka Cuffaine, you come back here or I will never speak to you again," Chole said.
Luka turned around at the sound of her voice. He smiled. Chole smiled too. Luka kissed her and she felt as it were the best one yet. Chole returned the kiss.
Luka handed her a bouquet of roses this time, and bent down.
"Chole, will you marry me?" Luka asked.
"Yes!" Chole answered.
Luka and Chole cried tears of happiness, laughed, hugged, and kissed. Luka slipped a ring on her finger. Chole could not contain the joy she felt. Luka, her Luka was home at last.
The end...
Until the next LukaLoe one-shot story,
