Four

Thank goodness it was the weekend, because Marinette stayed up into the early morning hours. The only reason she woke up again was because came in to offer her breakfast- more like lunch at that point. Taking the food she quickly logged back into the skating forum on her computer.

The post she had made had gotten thousands of views:

'I know we're all upset, but if we ever want to skate again we have to stand up and do something about it. According to the city's website, we can protest any bill being proposed with a petition. To get signatures we need to prove that skateboarding isn't dangerous- and to do that we need to skateboard ourselves. Physically show them that we can handle little scrapes. If we protest peacefully, we would need to keep our identities a secret so our parents or others don't report us. You already have fake names on this forum, so it's perfect! We simply need to use this forum to decide times and places to meet up, skate, and gather signatures. The more we get before the bill goes to debate, the better. Who's with me?'

Plenty of people commented with support, a few with denial that it would work. Marinette did notice how every negative comment was replied to by the same person at least once, someone with the username Chat Noir.

He was convincing everyone who said no to actually join the cause, all while she was asleep. It seemed everyone on the forum was ready to help now.

Marinette- or at this moment, Ladybug- opened a private chat with Chat Noir.

Ladybug: Hey, thanks for helping out.

Chat Noir: No problem, M'Lady. Figured you could use some assistance as our fearless leader.

Ladybug: Has that been decided already?

Chat Noir: Well considering the hashtag Ladybug has been trending since you first posted, I'd say so. Need a right hand man?

Ladybug: I think a leading duo might be helpful to the cause.

Chat Noir: Purrfect! Where shall we go for the first meet up then?

Ladybug: First of all- bad pun. Second- why not the eiffel tower? Tonight, after dark.

Chat Noir: Romantic, I like it!

Ladybug: Just spread the word, Kitty.

Back in the main page, 'Ladybug' made another post announcing the first meeting of the skateboarders of Paris, tagging Chat Noir in it as her right hand.

The previous night, Marinette had repainted her skateboard in her room. Thanks to all the craft supplies she had on hand, Tikki was looking sharp. A new ladybug logo was painted on the bottom, and a fresh coat of vibrant red showed on the top. She even redid her helmet and pads in the same color.

The question now was how to explain to her parents where she was going tonight, and how to disguise herself.

Thank goodness Marinette saved every scrap of fabric she used. It made last minute projects much easier. She snipped off the last remaining loose threads, and held up the finished product- a bag big enough to hold Tikki the skateboard as well as her helmet and pads. Placing said items inside, she slung the bag over her shoulder. A little heavy, but it would do. Marinette looked over at her clock, she would have to run to the tower, she was a little late. Snatching her purse off of her desk, she hurried down the stairs. Next was the hard part, tricking her parents.

"Marinette are you alright? You haven't been downstairs all day." Her mother asked.

"Oh yeah I'm okay!" She replied.

"Where are you going? You haven't eaten!" Her father objected.

"Oh- I forgot to tell you- Alya asked me to sleepover, we have a small project for, uh, English that we have to get started on!"

Her father frowned a little, "Alright, if it's for school... what's in the bag?"

"My sleeping bag, pillow, and books! The essentials. I'll be back in the morning!"

The parents shrugged at each other before waving her off, mission successful.

Marinette ran out the front door of the bakery, and turned in a direction completely different from the one that went to Alya's house. She had to stop by the pop up costume shop down the street, she needed red and black face paint.

Throwing the plastic casings of the makeup in the nearby trash can, Marinette pulled a small compact mirror out of her purse to see the finished product of her makeup attempt. Her painted-on mask covered her eyes and half of her cheeks, the ladybug spots making her look somewhat different. She wouldn't be identified as herself, at least not immediately. She had brought a change of clothes, some black leggings and a red hoodie she found at the bottom of her drawers. A little of the black facepaint had stained the hoodie in her rush, but it somehow looked good, fitting the aesthetic she was going for.

The sun had long since set, and there was no more time to waste. Seeing the Eiffel Tower light up in the distance, she started to run in its direction.

Sneaking up on the location, Marinette- no, Ladybug- peaked out from a nearby alleyway. No one was skating! Plenty of people had arrived, all wearing disguises as instructed, but no one seemed brave enough to be the first to go against the mayor.

One person was actually pacing, holding his board under his arm and looking around somewhat frantically. Every time someone stood to leave, he stopped them, "Just a few more minutes, she has to be on her way. We have to trust her!"

Ladybug couldn't help but smile. Coming out of the shadows, she walked over to the boy, tapping him on the shoulder, "Chat Noir I presume?"

The boy whipped around, his black and green mask starkly contrasting the blond hair on his head. Looking down at her, he smiled brightly, "Ladybug!"

At the mention of the name, everyone stood, eyes on her. Whispers started to fly around, all questioning what would happen.

Ladybug smiled back and walked over to a nearby bench, climbing up and standing on top of it to get the attention of everyone.

"Alright people!" She shouted, making the whispers cease, "We have a mission! You can't be afraid. All I'm asking you to do is skateboard. The word will spread that we're doing this, that will be good and bad. Good- because people who want to skate will join our cause-" she rustled through her bag, pulling out paper and pens, "They will sign our petition! Others... yes they may call the police. People like the Bourgeois' who think they have power over us. But we aren't afraid of them, are we?!"

"NO!" The crowd cheered in response.

"That's right! Grab your boards, grab a paper and pen! We need as many signatures as possible!"

The group all rushed forward, grabbing paper and pens from the pile on the bench before heading over to the concrete area and letting their boards slam into the pavement, starting to skate around the tower.

"Nice speech My Lady-" Chat Noir replied, taking a seat as Ladybug climbed down from the bench, "You are a natural born leader with a great second in command." He winked.

Ladybug frowned, "Well, 'second in command'-" She yanked her skateboard out of her bag and started putting on her helmet, "I don't know why you're sitting. We've got a mission, but if you want to stay behind I'll gladly let you eat my dust." She teased, placing Tikki the board on the ground and adjusting her elbow pads for a moment, turning around and giving Chat a wink in return before zooming off to join the others, giggling at the sounds of Chat rushing to get ready and keep up.

The group rode around for a couple of hours, getting plenty of signatures from people who happened to be passing by. It was almost midnight, and they hadn't been reported yet, a show of how little people cared about Mayor Bourgeois's campaign.

Of course, that state couldn't last forever.

A single siren started to howl in the night, red and blue flashing across the Eiffel Tower.

"Alright My Lady, what's the plan for this?" Chat Noir asked as he skidded to a stop next to her.

Ladybug picked up Tikki and passed it to Chat, "Tell everyone to get ready to go, just in case, but I'll negotiate."

Chat frowned, "We can't lose our leader."

"The law isn't in effect yet. The mayor has to bring it to committee. They can't arrest us... yet." Ladybug said, stepping forward.

The familiar face of Mr. Raincomprix stepped out of the squad car, his daughter, Sabrina, stepping out after him with crossed arms and a smirk.

The cop glared at Ladybug as she stepped forward, "You all aren't allowed to skateboard anymore and you know it."

"I haven't heard that the Mayor got that idea through committee." Ladybug replied, "We still have the right until it's passed. There's nothing you can arrest us for."

The cop seemed surprised that the young girl actually knew her rights. He looked to his daughter, who whined, "Can't you get them for disturbing the peace?! Chloe wants them gone!"

Mr. Raincomprix gulped, looking over to Ladybug again, "Who are you, exactly?"

"I'm Ladybug."

"Your real name, please."

"I don't have to tell you that, I looked it up earlier." Ladybug said, crossing her arms, "I understand the concept of possibly disturbing the peace, but we aren't playing loud music, just getting a little exercise, which is not against the law."

"Yet."

"Right, yet. Either way you have no grounds for arrest until that law is passed. If it gets passed. We're just peacefully protesting. And we're about to leave."

The cop looked between Ladybug and his daughter before sighing and saying, "Get in the car Sabrina, we're leaving."

"B-But dad!" Sabrina cried.

The two went back into the car and drove off.

Chat Noir ran up, "Ladybug are you okay? That was intense, I'm glad you looked up the rights."

Ladybug let out a deep breath, feeling like she didn't breathe in that entire conversation. She really just told off a cop! "I'm fine. Let's get out of here before they come back with a reason."

The skaters all cheered at their first success, saying they would go back on the forum and plan for the next group meet up soon.

Gabriel growled, "You're kidding me. That cop couldn't arrest them? Why not?"

The officer on the other end of the phone explained how the girl called Ladybug knew all of their rights.

"Well then, I guess to help the Mayor I'll have to take matters into my own hands." He said before hanging up the phone.

Opening his computer, Gabriel Agreste began to make a post on his website:

The person to reveal the identities of the skateboarding rebel Ladybug and her gang of miscreants will be substantially rewarded by the Agreste brand, who partners with the mayor in an effort to keep Paris's children safe.

"This will get some attention. I will get those kids off the streets... and prevent my own son from being hurt ever again."
