Ch 3. Revenge Isn't The Answer

Marinette continued running away from the others and slipped around a corner. She sighed quietly and walked down the alleyway, sliding down the wall and buries her face in her knees.

"Oh Marinette..." Mumbled Tikki, who had been hiding during the party. The small kwami sighed as she placed a small hand on the girls cheek.

"Why did I trust Sabrina?!" She said angrily. "Everytime I trust her or try to be nice, she always goes back to her old ways!"

"Maybe you should talk to her Marinette?" Tikki suggested. "Find out her side of the story to?"

She clenched her fists tightly together and ignored the caring words of her kwami.

"Chloé doesn't deserve the time of day, you should always take the high road!" Tikki continued.

Meanwhile, In Hawkmoths Lair

"Ah, a poor girl humiliated on her birthday! Perfect bait for an akuma!" He laughed wickedly. "Just a little angrier and she'll fall like a little puppet into my hands."

Back with Marinette

"Please Marinette! You need to calm down, Hawkmoth might send an akuma to try and take over you." Tikki exclaimed.

Marinette's thin body tensed up at hearing Tikki's statement.
"Y-you're right." She managed a meek little nod and wiped her splotchy pink face. Marinette took a few breaths in and out and decided to sing to try and calm herself down.

"The sinking feeling sets, it feels just like a hole inside your chest..." She started off in her soft voice. "I know you're thinking, no, no, no, no! It is easier said than done but please let me attest, I know it's hard. You're feeling like you're trapped, but that's how you react, when you cannot see the light, but try and see the light! I'm telling no, no, no, no! You're the only one standing in your way just take a breath, relax and tell me why? Please tell me why do we worry? Why? Why do we worry at all? Why? Just tell me why do we worry? When worries never help then tell me why, why worry at all?"
The bluenette sang, feeling herself calming down slowly as her voice grew and the notes escaped her lips. She didn't realize that someone nearby had overheard the petite female singing from the darkness of the alleyway.

A blonde haired male slowly made his way to the source of the sound, his footsteps gently and almost completely silent as he walked. He didn't want to risk startling the poor girl...just yet at least.

Tikki however sensed someone coming close by and hid herself behind Marinette's shoulder.
The blonde male turned the alleyway and saw the beauty leaning against the wall, her hair sticky with punch and food and her clothes were all dirty.

"Marinette?" Said the male softly with a hint of shock lacing his words.

A gasp escaped the bluenette's pink lips and her bluebell eyes opened, shimmer beautifully, contrasting the lovely shade of pale pink dusting across the paleness of her cheeks.

"A-adrien!" She called out in shock, identifying the male. He made his way over to her and took a seat next to the flustered bluenette.

"You okay? The others were worried when the saw you dash out of your own party..."
Marinette averted her eyes and sighed quietly.

"I'm-I'm fine..." She said shakily, trying to keep her tone as convincing as possible.

"Well..." Started off the concerned male. "Can you at least tell me what happened?" He pushed, wanting to know why she was covered in punch and food.

"Chloé and Sabrina happened..." She muttered sadly and could feel tears forming in her eyes. "They pulled a prank on me and Chloé covered me in food and punch." The bluenette explained, her voice cracked and became shaky as she spoke.

"Oh..." Adrien muttered simply. He knew Chloé could be mean, considering they've been friends since they were kids, but he didn't expect her to go this far. Especially not on Marinette's birthday.

"For once, I'd just like to get them back! Give them a taste of their own medicine!" Anger laced the contents of her usually sweet voice and she just wanted to scream.

"Revenge Isn't the answer, Marinette." He told her. "Knowing Chloé, it would just make it worse."

Hearing this coming from Adrien caused the bluenette to sigh in realization that he was right, pulling a prank on Chloé wouldn't change anything, it wouldn't change how she was. She decided to take Tikki's advice to her and take the high road, be the bigger person.

Adrien however was watching her, waiting in a slightly awkward silence for her response to his statement. He had never really been that good at comforting people unlike his mother.

"You're right...I should be the bigger person here." She finally spoke up, breaking the silence with a slight smile on her face.

"Great! Now, we should get you cleaned up. Isn't your house nearby?" The blonde asked to which the answer was a nod.
Adrien got up first, dusting himself off before holding his hand out to Marinette.

A lovely blush dusted across her cheeks as she put her hand in his and he pulled her up.

"Alright let's go then!" He smiled and walked with Marinette who was internally freaking out because she was actually holding hands with Adrien. She somehow managed to contain her feelings, besides the obvious red blush on her cheeks.

After about 10 minutes of walking, the two made it to the bakery. The door was locked so Marinette used her spare set of keys to unlock it.

"Where are your parents?" Adrien asked once he noticed they seemed to be nowhere in sight.

"Oh, they're out on a business trip, I'm pretty sure they left earlier today."
Marinette explained awkwardly.

Adrien seemed to accept this response and nodded. "Oh, okay. Well you should go and get yourself cleaned up so we can head to the party before they cut the cake!"

Marinette laughed and nodded, rushing upstairs to get her things and shower.

Adrien sat down and awaited Marinette's return. It was quiet, something he had grown accustomed to when he was home at the manor.
A tiny sigh escaped his lips and he hummed quietly.

A short while had passed and Marinette came out all cleaned and seemed a whole lot calmer.

Quick Snap Back To Hawkmoth

Hawkmoth growled as he sensed her negative feelings fade away.
"Agh! Seems she's managed to calm herself down...I'll just need to wait for someone else to get angry.." His window closed.

And Now Back with Mari and Adrien

Marinette had changed her outfit and now wore a red and black ladybug themed dress that ended mid-thigh. She also wore a pair of black flats and a matching purse.

"You look lovely Marinette!" Adrien complimented, making the girl blush.

"Haha, thanks!" She giggled and bit her lip. "Let's head back to the party!"
