A/N: Inspired by a post I saw on Instagram
Chat Noir jumped through the bathroom window, rolling quietly on the floor and turning on the shower. Moments later, Ladybug's voice called as expected.
"Adrien? It's me, Ladybug. Are you alright?"
Chat stepped closer to the door. "Yeah, yeah! With all these emotions, I thought I should take a shower."
He took one step closer, feeling stifled by the silence, and placed his hand on the doorknob. He felt Ladybug slowly letting go, and forced himself to keep his hand still.
Moments passed, and before he knew what he was saying, Chat blurted out, "Ladybug!"
He could hear her footsteps through the silence, the sound of the shower drowned out by his pounding heart. His fingers trembled as he whispered the next word, half hoping she wouldn't hear it and half begging she would.
"Stay."
"I- I-" Ladybug stammered, her voice rising. "I can't! I'm about to detransform."
Chat flung open the door, locking eyes with his lady in front of him. "Me too."
Ladybug's eyes widened, scanning Chat up and down until finally landing on his face. "Adrien?"
"Ladybug," Chat breathed. "I'm sorry, milady. I had to."
She sank to the floor, fingers clutching her hair and refusing to gaze back at him. She buried her head between her knees and gave a heaving sigh before letting go of her transformation.
Adrien kneeled down after his transformation fell, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay, milady," he assured. "You can trust me. I promise."
Ladybug shook her head, clenching her fists. "I do trust you," she acknowledged, choosing her words carefully. A moment of silence passed. Then another. And right when it was almost deafening, she spoke again. "But... but can you promise me one thing?"
"Anything."
"You can't be disappointed," Ladybug warned. "I'm just an ordinary girl under the mask, so- just don't get your hopes up."
Adrien laughed, leaning back and running his fingers through his hair. "That's what you were worried about?" he muttered incredulously. "Tell you what. I promised myself one thing when I first met you. I told myself that, no matter who you were under that mask, I love you just the same. And I will still keep that promise to this day."
Ladybug slowly lifted her head, her blue eyes peeking out from her arms. Immediately, recognition flashed in Adrien's eyes.
"Marinette," he realizing, a smile blooming on his face. "Marinette! It was you all along!" He lurched forward, wrapping his arms around her and holding her tight. "Thank you," he whispered. "Thank you for trusting me."
She gave a muffled answer and her fingers dug into Adrien's back. A drop of water fell onto Adrien's shirt, followed by a soft hiccup.
"Hey, hey, hey," Adrien consoled, leaning back and wiping a tear off of Marinette's cheek. "We don't cry. This is a happy occasion, right? Now we don't have to bolt in the other direction every time we use our superpower or make up an excuse for our actions. We can just be ourselves."
"But what if things change, Chat?" she asked. "What if we can't go back to being ourselves because there's a new us now?"
"There's no new us. Just Ladybug and Chat Noir as usual." Adrien grinned. "As for Adrien and Marinette, let's just say they're closer than ever now."
Marinette nodded, rubbing her eyes with her arm and managing a giggle. "I'm sorry I look like a mess right now... Probably shouldn't have overreacted."
"You look as beautiful as ever," Adrien protested. "I might even say that you look... purrfect."
A loud groan escaped Marinette's lips as she stared up at the high ceiling. "Does this mean I have to listen to your awful cat puns constantly?" she asked, biting back an exasperated smile.
Adrien frowned, looking genuinely hurt. "You think they're... awful?"
"Oh, chaton!" Marinette ruffled his hair. "They're not that bad, they're just... unnecessarily frequent."
But when Adrien's heartbroken pout continued, Marinette couldn't help herself from shooting out and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
Adrien's eyes widened and his pout morphed into a wide grin. "Eager, aren't we milady?"
Marinette buried her face back in her arms to hide the burning blush on her cheeks. "Oh be quiet- we've done much worse."
"What?" Adrien's voice rose up an octave. "I don't recall?"
"I thought your kwami would have told you," Marinette admitted, genuinely surprised. "A true love's kiss... how do you think I broke your influence from Dark Cupid?"
Adrien shot up and began pacing around the room, his voice thick with panic and confusion. "I had my first kiss with Ladybug... Ladybug is Marinette... I love both Ladybug and Marinette... I had my first kiss with the love of my life... and I don't even remember it!" He wrung his hands in the air helplessly. "I don't even remember it!!"
"Oh my goodness." Adrien tore his hands through this hair, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I don't remember it at all."
With a sense of finality, Adrien turned to Marinette. He bit his lip nervously, slowly walking towards her and pulling her to her feet. "Do you think... you could help me remember it?"
The last part was so soft, Marinette could barely make it out. But she nodded, leaning close and wrapping an arm around Adrien's shoulder.
"Of course."
Her lips were on his in an instant. The kiss was far fiercer than their last, a sense of urgency and panic filling it that slowly turned to calmness. The fire died down and it soon became soft- a comfort that Adrien would have given anything to feel again.
A comfort that made everything feel like it was all going to be okay.
