Thing of the future - PART 2
Ladybug couldn't react; she was shocked. Although it was just 10 years into the future, her 25 year old self looked like a different person.
The older Ladybug, we'll call her Ladybug 2, walked up to her, a shocked expression on her face. Her face had a scar going down her cheek. Ladybug 2 walked up to Ladybug and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "It's me... when I was in high school," she mumbled to herself.
Ladybug backed away slowly. She couldn't tear her eyes away from her future-self's face. "What... happened?"
Ladybug 2 sighed. "This business is what happened. A villain I fought some time ago gave me this scar. I was just in high school."
Ladybug's hand flew up to her face. It wasn't damaged and surely, the older version of herself would point it out.
"But Chat's right," Ladybug 2 mumbled. "You need to go."
"But how?" Ladybug shrugged. She glanced over at the unconscious Timebreaker. "She was the one who got me here."
"We need to get her to repair the skates and send you both back. It's not only endangering you, but endangering Alix as well," Chat said.
"Okay," Ladybug nodded. "Let's wake her up."
She walked over to Timebreaker and kneeled down beside her. She shook her. "Alix. Wake up."
After a few minutes of this, Timebreaker stirred. Her eyes fluttered open. "Tell Chat Noir I'm going to kill him," she muttered angrily.
"I heard that," Chat chimed.
"Good," she hissed, sitting up. She clenched a fist but Ladybug 2 stepped in.
"No more fighting. Listen, you need to take back yourself and Ladybug to your own time. If not-"
"Why would I do that?!" Timebreaker exclaimed, pushing Ladybug out of the way and getting to her feet. She stared right into Ladybug 2's eyes.
Chat helped Ladybug up while closely inspecting the confrontation between Ladybug 2 and Timebreaker.
"Because if you don't you both will disappear," Ladybug 2 explained.
"Ha, as if I'll believe that," Timebreaker chuckled. She began trudging away. "I need to fix my skates so I can go even further into the future to steal the Miraculouses off your old, wrinkly selves. Later."
Ladybug quickly snatched Timebreaker's wrist. She gripped it hard and leaned in so she could whisper into her ear. "You need to take us back into the past. Now."
"Why? So you can smooch over your stupid cat friend?" Timebreaker hissed angrily. Chat raised an eyebrow.
"No, because you're putting both of our lives at stake. You hear that Hawkmoth? I'm not letting you do this."
"Let go!" Timebreaker yelled, pushing her away. She quickly fled the area. Ladybug was about to go after her when a yoyo string wrapped around the heroines waist, stopping her.
"Let her fix the skates first. Then we'll negotiate," Ladybug 2 said, nodding at the fleeing figure.
Ladybug sighed impatiently and Ladybug 2 chuckled. She patted her younger self's head. "This is the attitude that payed for this scar."
"I still love it," Chat grinned.
"How about we get you something to eat?" Ladybug 2 offered. "All of that time traveling must've gotten you beat."
As if on cue, Ladybug's stomach growled. "Yeah, that would be nice," she nodded.
The three retreated to a secret base to which the superheroes owned. Ladybug curiously looked around. "I get a secret base when I'm older?" she gasped in awe.
"Yep," Ladybug 2 smiled happily. "Pretty cool, huh?"
"Definitely," Ladybug nodded. She walked over to a comfy looking couch. She took a seat and gazed at her surroundings. Chat took a seat in the chair opposite from her.
"My reaction when I first saw this place," he grinned, looking around. He handed her a bag of chips and she happily indulged into the snack.
A thought suddenly came to Ladybug's mind. She crossed her legs nervously and set the chips down. "Um, Chat? I was just wondering... do I know who you are in the future?"
Chat looked appalled by the question and glanced over at Ladybug 2. Her expression read that she predicted a question like the sort. She took a seat beside her younger self.
"Yes," she replied. "But we can't tell you. It'd rupture the timeline."
Ladybug nodded. "Of course. Plus, I'd want to find out myself anyway."
Ladybug 2 smiled. She placed a hand on Ladybug's shoulder and inspected her former self. The moment was cut short when she gasped frightfully. Ladybug gasped in shock as well. "What?"
"Your... hand," Ladybug 2 mumbled, glancing down.
Ladybug stole a glance at her hand. It was vanishing. Into thin air! She squealed and inspected the area in which used to be her hand.
"What! W-Why is my hand disappearing?" Ladybug asked incredulously, rotating her wrist over and over again.
"I think I know why," Chat said. "Since you jumped into our timeline, that means there are two of you in history. Since you aren't supposed to be this timeline, you're being erased."
"Doesn't that mean I'll go back to my time?" Ladybug replied quickly.
"Not really. You'll just get lost in time if you don't get back to your time before you disappear," Chat said. He got up from his seat. "We need to find Timebreaker."
Ladybug stood up quickly and looked directly into Chat's eyes. "Wouldn't you've known this would happen?"
"We didn't think the process would occur so quickly," Chat admitted sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.
"Well it is," Ladybug exclaimed. She sat back down and buried her head in her hands-- well, hand.
Ladybug 2 stood up. "We need to find Timebreaker ASAP," she declared, clenching her fists self-righteously.
"I'm with you on that," Chat nodded. He firmly grabbed Ladybug by her shoulders, lifted her up and back on her feet with no struggle. His biceps and abs weren't just for gawking at after all.
"You have to stay strong for us," Ladybug 2 said to her younger self. "I know you can. I am you after all."
"Okay," Ladybug said with a nod. "Let's just hope I won't completely vanish by then."
Chat smirked and glanced at Ladybug 2. "I'm starting to remember why I fell in love with you, LB. You had such a sense of humor."
Ladybug 2 cracked a smile and rolled her eyes. "Let's just go you two."
Ladybug looked at Chat weirdly before following Ladybug 2 out of their secret base. Even his future self saying that he loved her was still an incredibly awkward situation.
As soon as the three exited the building, Ladybug 2 inspected their surroundings. She looked up a tall building and glanced back at Ladybug.
"Try to keep up, alright?" Ladybug 2 said with a wink.
"You don't need to tell me twice," Ladybug challenged with a smirk.
The two sprinted up the building, leaving Chat in the dust. He gasped and followed the two up the building.
The wind flew past her face, and it made her feel alive. Her legs worked with effort and she glanced at Ladybug 2. The two were almost to the top when they both wrapped their fingers around their yoyo. In a instant, they threw their yoyo to the top of the building and they flew away from each other.
"Woo!" Ladybug cheered excitedly, feeling the wind brush past her face. It was like she was flying. She could see Paris. But where was the Eiffel Tower?
Ladybug landed on the top of the building with a grunt and glanced up to see Ladybug 2 join her. She put her hands on her hips.
"Not bad," Ladybug 2 complimented with a proud smile. "Even without a hand I still got it."
Ladybug bowed just as Chat joined the girls. He let out an exhausted sigh and bent over to catch his breath. "Geez, and I thought I was the fast one."
Ladybug and Ladybug 2 simultaneously laughed. Ladybug glanced down at her arm and it was almost halfway gone.
"We'd better get a move on," she said nervously. "I want to help out before I'm just a head."
Ladybug 2 nodded. "If my predictions are correct, Timebreaker probably ventured off in search for a lab to repair her skates. Her being at such a young age wouldn't know how."
"Wait, I thought breaking her skates would've released the akuma?" Ladybug asked curiously.
"Nope," Ladybug 2 replied. "Since Hawkmoth doesn't exist anymore, the akuma doesn't exist and therefore can't be released. It technically hasn't been here at all."
Ladybug held her head in confusion. "Ugh, remind me to never battle a time traveling villain ever again."
Chat slapped Ladybug on the back. "Chin up, you've gotten through much worse."
"It hasn't gotten to the point where I can't even capture the akuma," Ladybug sighed.
"Hey, less talking and more finding," Ladybug 2 said. "Plus, you'll be able to cleanse the akuma when you get back to your own time."
"You're right," Ladybug nodded after a hesitant pause. She looked out over the city. "So where is a nearest lab?"
"Just a few blocks," Chat said. "We should get there in no time by jumping across these buildings."
"Okay," Ladybug said weakly. Chat glanced over at her in confusion.
"You alright there, my little lady?"
"Yeah, I just feel achy. That's all," she confessed. "And don't call me your little lady. It's weird."
Chat hoisted Ladybug on his back as a smirk flashed across his face. "I got you."
"Chat.. let me down," Ladybug said, proceeding to climb off his back.
"No, you're weak," he said.
"Chat is right, just let him," Ladybug 2 said with a nod.
Ladybug sighed in defeat. She hated relying on others. What superhero did that? Probably one who isn't disappearing into thin air, she thought.
"Hang on," Chat told Ladybug. She sighed and latched herself onto him by gripping onto his abs for dear life.
In an instant, the duo was speeding through the night, sprinting from building to building. Ladybug 2 stealthily kept up with them.
Finally, the three landed in front of a dilapidated lab. Ladybug arched an eyebrow, inspecting the area from Chat's back. "This is where Timebreaker is? I don't think she'd-"
"She's here," Ladybug 2 assured. "Trust us."
Chat began walking again when Ladybug poked him twice with her non-dominant hand; the other one was completely gone along with her arm and shoulder. Chat glanced at her. "Yes?"
"Let me down. You won't be any help with me on your back," Ladybug said softly.
"Are you sure you can stand on your own?" he asked carefully.
"Until my foot disappears, I'm pretty sure I can," Ladybug said.
Chat smirked and set Ladybug down. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Just be careful, alright?"
Ladybug nodded before Chat scurried off after Ladybug 2. She kept up with the duo at an agonizingly slow pace; she could feel her energy being drained right out of her every second.
"Chat," Ladybug 2 whispered. She pointed down a long hallway. "Throw your pole down there."
"Gotcha," Chat nodded. He grabbed his pole and chucked it down the hallway. A few minutes passed and nothing happened. Ladybug watched curiously.
Then, a head peeked out from behind a corner and Ladybug 2 sprang into action. She quickly threw her yoyo towards the figure and it wrapped around them. With one quick yank, the person was exposed. Curled up in a ball was a bald headed man with a long white lab coat on.
The weeping person covered their face nervously as Chat cautiously approached them. "Where is the scientist?" he barked authoritatively.
The bald man glanced up at Chat, fretful tears streaming down his face. "I-I don't know! Please don't hurt me!"
"Lies," Ladybug 2 snapped. "You're his assistant, aren't you? Where is he!"
"I don't know!" the man exclaimed again, covering his ears.
Chat growled and picked up the man by his lab suit collar. "Where. Is. He."
The man raised his hands in self defense. "Okay! Okay! He is in the back room!"
Chat dropped the man with little care and raced down the hallway. Ladybug 2 followed behind.
"Okay, I'm-" Ladybug called, but suddenly stumbled to the ground. She groaned and looked at her feet. They too were disappearing.
"Seriously?!" she asked incredulously.
The man gasped in amazement. "You're from a different time period, aren't you?"
"Yeah," Ladybug replied. That's kinda why she looked like her.
"I see," the man mumbled. "There was a girl who was asking for my professors assistance with her time traveling skates."
"Please tell me you can fix this," Ladybug sighed, trusting that the man has good judgement. Actually, if he did, he probably would've been upfront with Chat in the first place, but that's just her opinion.
"I do know that my professor has a prototype of a time traveling device," he nodded. The man quickly got to his feet. "Of course, we haven't really tested it but-"
"It'll do," Ladybug said quickly. She frantically glanced down at her legs which were disappearing at an alarmingly fast rate. "We need to hurry up before I completely disappear."
Chat and Ladybug 2 emerged back into the room with Timebreaker and the scientist in their hands. Chat's mouth dropped open when he saw Ladybug's disappearing body.
"Arnold!" the scientist roared. "What are you doing?"
"I need to get this girl back to her time," he mumbled, rushing back and forth between his desk and us. He then stopped by a large machine covered with a red cloak. He pulled it off quickly, revealing what Ladybug assumed was the time machine.
"Let's go!" Arnold yelled.
"There's no guarantee this'll work," the scientist mumbled angrily.
Ladybug 2 rushed over to Ladybug and picked her up. She walked her younger self over to the time machine. Chat walked over with the uncooperative Timebreaker.
The door to the time machine opened and a puff of mist billowed out. Ladybug 2 was about to set Ladybug inside when Arnold stopped her. He looked Ladybug directly in the eye.
"Are you aware of the risk you're about to take?" Arnold asked seriously.
Ladybug thought it over. He was right. If this time machine didn't work, history would forever be rewritten. She had to make it back to her time safely. Either that or she'd stay in the future and disintegrate anyway. She had to try.
"Yes," Ladybug nodded.
Arnold nodded. "Good luck," he said.
Ladybug 2 gently set Ladybug down in the time machine. She smiled, although Ladybug could detect the worry and nervousness. "I wish you the best of luck," she said.
Ladybug smiled weakly. "Thanks."
Chat sighed annoyingly as he held the thrashing Timebreaker. "Could someone knock her out?"
"Got it," the scientist offered, injecting a purple liquid into Timebreaker. She immediately knocked out.
Chat sat her down besides Ladybug. He patted her head. "Good luck, my lady."
"Thanks," Ladybug replied.
"And make sure you wake her up and cleanse the akuma when you get back," Chat said.
"I hope so," Ladybug nodded, her nerves strung. She would either make it back to her time or be erased from existence, disrupting the space time continuum. She sighed and decided to not think about it.
The door slowly closed and Ladybug was left in silence. Nothing happened. She closed her eyes tight, praying that her ladybug luck would pull through.
Then, a loud piercing noise shot through her skull and she felt the world jerk forward. Nearly banging her head against the machine, she opened her eyes to find that she was floating in space once again. Her limbs were back though.
Beside her, an unconscious Timebreaker was drifting along. Ladybug sighed. "Great. Looks like I'm trapped in space."
A tiny bright light entered her vision and Ladybug screamed as the impending doom sped up to her. A vacuum sound filled her ears and next thing she knew she was flying out of a portal with Timebreaker on her tail.
Her screams echoed off the warehouse as she slid across the dusted floor. She groaned in pain.
"My lady?" a familiar voice asked.
Ladybug reluctantly looked up to see Chat staring down at her. 15 year old Chat! Even though he didn't have those beautiful abs or biceps yet, she was still incredibly happy!
A smile spread across his face and he engulfed Ladybug in a hug. "You're okay! I was so worried I was gonna have to find a new lady," he exclaimed.
"I'm so happy I made it!" Ladybug said happily, ignoring his last remark.
"What happened?" Chat asked curiously, his emerald eyes staring into hers.
"It's a long story. But first, I just want to say that there is nothing wrong with working out! Fitness matters! It really matters!"
