*SPOILER* New-Episode Freak-Out (HARDROCK)

hOLy crabcakes. As I write this, it is nearly 3 in the morning, AND I JUST SAW CAPTAIN HARDROCK. Sorry if I sound a little delirious, because I am. I just...I had to. Season 2 is officially out on Netflix as of midnight, and I was too busy binging on all the Adrienette/Ladynoir/Ladrien/Marichat goodness to even realize Captain Hardrock was OUT.

Now, even though I'm slightly woozy and kinda half-asleep, I still have some notes to take about this episode.

First things first, the animation.

Personal opinion, but I feel like you can really tell this episode was rushed. The movement of everything seemed overall robotic, excluding the recycled transformation scenes. I'm wondering if they were even having some issues with Luka's model due to his "crazy-eyes" in certain scenes.

Although, I do admit they seem to be improving the textures of the models a bit. For instance, Chat Noir was standing right next to Ladybug and you could literally see a red reflection on his suit, as well as the intricate detail on Marinette's blazer. Come to think of it, they're really just improving the main characters, making the newer characters suffer for it.

Now to the actual plot. Okay.

Let me just first get it out of the way, Luka was seriously creeping me out in the first scene he was in. I mean, it got better, but...oof. The way he was animated just made it even worse, and it was just overall uncomfortable to watch. I mean, the first thing we see is him awkwardly meditating, and that weird chuckle, and weird hippy-dippy "ThiS iS whaT yOur hEarT iS tELLinG mE" "song" on the guitar... The animation was really ticking me off, and in one part his shirt goes from white to black, back to white. Hold on, I'm going on another tangent.

Okay! So, the city of Paris was having a music celebration where different people would perform in different places, and it's a whole thing. Ms. Couffaine (a spastic wannabe-pirate who literally lets her kids do anything they want, she like, HATES rules...I smell a sad childhood) was akumatized because the police told her that the (really bad) band of her kid's friends was too loud, to the point where they could not only damage their own, but others hearing, and this for some reason made her mad enough to get akumatized.

Hold on, as a mother...no, as A DECENT HUMAN BEING, shouldn't she care for the safety of her children and the public? I mean, yeah, the officer was being a little anal, but that's kind of their job.

Anyways, while this is going down, Adrien is being evaluated on his piano playing by his father. Yeah, that's going to end well. Long story short, because Adrien keeps messing up (Because he like, never practices, I mean right? He always fakes it!), Gabriel doesn't let him go to his friends' band's (really bad) performance, which is probably for the best honestly, because it's kind of dangerous, and he really should practice the piano anyways (since he like, never does).

Yada yada, Ladybug and Chat Noir fight the villain, win, fix everything, blah blah. And then when everything is back to normal, Gabriel changes his mind and lets Adrien go to get his eardrums destroyed (Boy, am I going to be a fun parent). The only thing really made me squeal in this episode was Adrien's overly-dramatic fall, which made everything worth it.

BUT THEN he joins the stupidly bad band, they play crappy music and sing about unicorns, and then it ends.

So, now, let's talk about Luka.

Oof. Where do I start...

This guy weirded me out SO much in the first scene he was in. HE ACTUALLY REMINDED ME OF THAT "Hey Stranger, It's Been Awhile" MEME-ANIMATION THING. (If you don't know what that is, look it up, you'll see what I'm talking about)

I really wanted to like him, I really did. But his first impression sucked. I really thought it did.

I did appreciate though, that part where he takes the fall for Marinette (when his mom's akumatized) and his introduction to Adrien. But other than that, he has the actual personality of a graham cracker. An edgy graham cracker who is also a hippie and plays guitar.

Oh my gosh...I just realized Luka is everyone at my high school.

AND I also feel like everything about Chat Noir in this episode was rushed. He seemed kind of out of character, and he was only really needed to destroy the akuma. Everything else would have probably stayed the same.

I gotta say, this episode was my least favorite from season two, especially after "Gorizilla". I wouldn't say it's TERRIBLE, or even bad. Just...really uncomfortable and awkward.

Also, sorry if this all makes zero sense, I might take this down if I re-watch it when I'm actually a functioning human being and I somehow love-love-love it.

*FULLY AWAKE EDIT*

Okay, so, yeah. While I don't think his animation is that great (and I am VERY disappointed in the lack of guyliner. DIDN'T THEY SAY HE WAS PUNK-GOTH?...but actually more emo...) Luka isn't THAT bad.

Believe it or not, I had a HUGE problem with Chat Noir when I first started watching the show because his hair weirded me out, but now hE hAS ReDeeMEd HiMseLF. But yeah, I think Luka will just take some getting used to.

And I lowkey ship Lukadrien for the same reason I ship Marichat...aesthetics. Something about the contrast with their hair colors and their style and the fact that their personalities are like the sun and the moon, and even the way they met with Adrien falling on his face (for once) and Luka helping him up and inviting him to join the band...

(Come at me, bros. I'm ready.)
