This kinda goes with the whole language-thing.

There are those who try too hard to make the reader believe the story takes place in France, and then, there are those uncultured people who think all McDonalds are the same everywhere.

Now, I stand by the whole, maybe-don't-have-long-conversations-in-French, but add something else that is apart of the France culture! Like Bandes Dessinees, French comics. 

Also, whenever the characters watch movies, they're almost always from Hollywood? Like, I can bet they aren't seeing the Proposal with Ryan Reynolds. 

Google  "French Movies 2016". You will find movies there, I guarantee it. I mean, I love reading stories where the author has done their homework on the setting of the story.
