Chapter 25

Barry stands outside the classroom door. Lila walks out and closes the door behind her.

She turns to Barry.

Lila: How much of that did you see?

Barry: Enough. But judging from the look on your face, I'm guessing that was your first time kissing someone?

Lila turns her head away.

Lila: That was absolutely embarrassing.
Promise me you won't say anything about it.

Barry: My lips are sealed.

Lila: Thank you.

They walk off.

Barry: By the way, I don't suppose you happen to know Kagami Tsurugi, do you?

Lila: Yeah, I know her.
She's an old friend of mine, from Japan.
Her mother is the CEO of Tsurugi Industries.

Barry: Well, evidently, her mother's tech company got robbed a while back.

Lila: Really, and what was stolen from it?

Barry: Don't know, Tsurugi Industries houses a number of highly experimental, and extremely valuable, pieces of technology. I'll have to investigate this, maybe there's a connection with all the craziness that's been happening recently.

Lila: I can text Kagami and have her meet up with us later. Maybe she might know something about her mom's company.

Barry: Let's hope so, cause whoever stole something from her...I doubt they wanted it for a science experiment."

Meanwhile, Marinette walks through the door to her bakery, and steps inside.

As she closes the door behind her. She looks towards the back of the bakery. Memories appear of Tom, Sabine and a young Marinette, in the bakery.

It was when Marinette was learning how to make her first bread loaf, they laugh, as little Marinette sneezes and covers all three of them in flour.

She looks towards the window.
It shows another memory of Marinette drawing a new design, and Tom and Sabine placing the emblem in their bakery in the window.

Marinette heads up the stairwell to the living room.

More memories appear, from a little Marinette and her dad playing video games, Sabine teaching little Marinette how to sew fabric, and one of Tom and Sabine with a baby Marinette in a high-chair.
They bring in a cake with a number one candle.

Tears begin welling up Marinette's eyes, and streaming down her face.
Tikki flies out of her purse, and hovers next to her.

Tikki: Marinette, are you okay?

Marinette turns to her Kwami.

Marinette: (Stifled sob) It's not the same without them, Tikki. They've always been there for me, since the day I was born.

Tikki: I know it hurts, Marinette. But it'll get better, I can promise you.

Marinette: (Sniff) Easy for you to say, Tikki. You're parents weren't murdered, and framed, at the hands of a monster!

She breaks down, and falls to her knees in the middle of the room.

Now, the giant kaleidoscope shudder opens, revealing the city outside. Hawk Moth stands in the middle of the room with the afternoon twilight, shining down on him.

Hawk Moth: There's nothing more heartbreaking than the loss of a loved one. Such a mixture of sadness, anger and depression. The perfect catalyst for destruction.

He holds out his hand, and infuses a white butterfly with dark energy.

(SHHOOOM!)

It flies off.

Hawk Moth: Fly away little Akuma, and evilize Marinette Dupain-Cheng!

Hawk Moth: (Cackles maniacally.)

The Akuma flies through the cityscape.
