Chapter 1
Lightning crashes as dark clouds gather in the skies above Paris' City Hall
Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Flash face off against Reverse Flash and future Hawk Moth.
Ladybug and Cat Noir's faces, covered in blood and bruises.
Ladybug: You're not going to get away with this!
And I'm not going to let you, either!
Future Hawk Moth: Oh, but you see, Ladybug. We're just getting started.
Ladybug and Flash both charge towards their respective adversaries.
Now, in his apartment, 3 weeks earlier. At 5:30 AM. Barry Allen sits at his desk, analyzing data from the crime scene at Marinette's house.
Barry: (Groans) Gideon, are you certain that there's no other evidence proving Lila Rossi wasn't at the Dupain-Cheng residence?
Gideon: "AFFIRMATIVE, BARRY ALLEN."
Barry: Bring up the DNA samples I found at the crime scene and cross-reference it, with Lila Rossi's genetic signature.
Gideon: "OKAY, BARRY ALLEN."
The samples appear on the computer screen.
Barry rubs his chin in thought, calculating.
Gideon: "DNA SAMPLES INDICATE:
BLOOD TYPE IS: A+ POSITIVE.
CHOLESTEROL LEVELS: 105 PERCENT.
IRREGULARITY DETECTED, HIGH LEVELS OF P16."
Barry looks up from his thoughts.
Barry: Wait, wait, wait. You're saying that the blood sample I collected contains high levels of P16, and doesn't correspond with Lila Rossi's genetic signature?
Gideon: "CORRECT."
Barry: So the DNA and hair samples I found, were from an adult Lila Rossi. Not the current one.
Gideon: "THE ONLY POSSIBLE EXPLANATION IS THAT AN ADULT LILA ROSSI MUST HAVE TRAVELED TO THE PAST, AND MURDERED MRS. DUPAIN-CHENG, UNDETECTED."
Barry: But the question is, how did she time travel to the past? I'll have to do some more digging into this possibility.
Gideon: "A REMINDER, BARRY ALLEN.
YOU'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS CASE, FOR THE LAST 36 HOURS. AND YOU'RE DUE AT THE FUNERAL IN LESS THAN AN HOUR."
Barry: Thanks for the reminder, Gideon.
(WHOOSH!)
He rushes out of view, and reappears.
Now wearing a black suit, he adjusts the tie.
Barry: Right, Lila said she'd say stop by to come get me. She should be here, any minute.
(Knock, Knock, Knock!)
Barry: That must be her now.
He walks to the door, and looks through the peephole. And sees Lila standing outside, wearing a black onyx dress, with a slim fit skirt.
Barry opens the door.
Barry: Hello, Lila.
Lila: Hey, Barry. Nice suit, very classy.
But, I still think the red one suits you better.
Barry: The red one serves more as function, rather than fashion. But I couldn't agree more.
Lila: Well, shall we?
Barry nods, as he and Lila head out of the apartment.
Meanwhile, at the Agreste Mansion.
Adrien was in his bedroom, getting dressed in his black tie and white shirt. While Plagg hovers next to him.
Plagg: You sure you're alright, kid?
He turns to the Kwami, slightly perturbed.
Adrien: I don't want to talk about it, Plagg.
Nathalie appears on the computer screens.
Nathalie: Adrien, your bodyguard is waiting for you in the Foyer.
Adrien: And Father?
Nathalie: He's currently in a meeting with Ms. Tsurugi.
Adrien: Good, I'll be right down.
The monitor returns to the homescreen.
Adrien grabs his jacket, Plagg hides in the inner jacket pocket.
He buttons the jacket and heads out.
Adrien descends the staircase, to the Agreste Foyer.
Adrien: (Sighs) I'm ready.
The bodyguard nods in response,
and the two of them head out the door.
Meanwhile, Nathalie walks into the Atelier.
With Gabriel and Tomoe, discussing business.
Tomoe: -And of course, as you well know, Gabriel-san.
Your last attempt to obtain the Miraculous has been unsuccessful.
This Reddogōsuto you call, "Flash," is bad for business.
As if I didn't have enough to worry about with my daughter.
Gabriel: What's the problem?
Tomoe: She insisted on attending the
funeral for Marinette's mother.
Gabriel: Mmm-hmm. And what did you do to stop her?
Tomoe: I didn't do anything, I let her go.
My daughter is capable of making her own choices.
Though, I wish she would choose to be with your son.
Gabriel rubs his forehead, tenderly.
Gabriel: As do I. But I recently had a disagreement with my son. And it didn't go smoothly.
Tomoe: What did you do?
Gabriel: I tried to forbid him from attending the funeral today.
Unfortunately, he flew into a rage and told me that I was manipulating him for my own purposes.
Tomoe frowns, disappointed.
Tomoe: You should've been more assertive!
Remind him of his place, that he is your son, and he needs to learn to obey you!
Gabriel: I'm well aware, but I can't help but feel that he is partially right.
I haven't completely come to grips with Emilie's demise.
Tomoe: That is the exact reason you're doing all this, Gabriel-san.
So you can bring your wife back, and recreate the world in your image.
Gabriel strokes his chin.
Tomoe: One cannot be both a Savior and Oppressor. Light and shadow.
Gabriel says nothing, and nods.
Tomoe: I have somewhere to be.
Remember what I told you, Gabriel-san.
Don't lose focus on your goal.
Gabriel: Very well. Nathalie, will you show Mrs. Tsurugi out?
Nathalie: Of course, sir. Right this way, ma'am.
As Nathalie and Tomoe walk out of the Atelier, Gabriel sits alone at the table.
Gabriel: You can show yourself now. I know you're here.
Professor Wathen appears out of nowhere, and steps forward.
Wathen: Greetings, Mr. Agreste.
Or perhaps, you'd prefer to be addressed as Hawk Moth?
Gabriel appears surprised.
Gabriel: Aren't you the substitute teacher at my son's school?
Wathen: You could say that. But that's only one of my monikers.
Gabriel: Who are you, and how do you know my secret identity?
Wathen: Well, the rest of the city knows me, as Professor Edward Wathen, from America.
But my real name is Eobard Thawne.
Thawne: And you and I have some important business to discuss.
