3. Black Cat

Namjoon slowly opens the door of his bedroom. He peeks through it and glances around the hallway. Nobody is there apart from a maid cleaning some vases far ahead.

"Good," Namjoon nods to himself and slowly steps out.

After Namjoon silently closes the door, he clutches his backpack behind him and slowly walks across the hallway. He becomes particularly aware when he passes by his father's bedroom.

For a moment, Namjoon actually expects his father to have some sixth sense and somehow sense him from inside. Having him home is rare— but whenever he is home, the presence is overwhelming. He's sure all the staff of the mansion feel the same.

As much as Namjoon wants to tell his father he's going out, he knows that there's a big possibility of him being told to stay indoors. He gets it, sure, overprotective parents and all that.

But Namjoon's late. Jungkook's been waiting for half an hour. So he turns away from his father's room and sprints his way to the stairs.

"Jungkook is going to kill me," Namjoon whispers as he jumps down some of the steps.

The moment Namjoon reaches the last step on the stairs, he hears a familiar voice clear his throat behind him. He turns around and sees his father standing there with both hands behind his back.

Namjoon almost looses his composure. He takes a deep breath and stands straight. "Good morning, father."

"Good morning, Namjoon," Mr. Kim says, his eyes glaring from behind the lens of his glasses. "Where do you plan on going this early in the morning?"

"Meeting up with Jungkook," Namjoon says with a nod. "Sorry that I failed to inform you, father. I assumed you were busy."

Mr. Kim sighs. "You're my son. Me being busy doesn't mean I don't have time to listen."

Namjoon almost says that his father's words contrast his experiences but decides to swallow it down like a fat pill. Then he realizes that his words are different, he isn't scolding him for leaving like usual.

"I'm sorry, father," Namjoon bows a bit and bites his trembling lower lip.

Mr. Kim sighs loudly. Namjoon expects him, rather wants his father to approach him in what can at least be a showcase of affection. But he just stays there atop the stairs, eyes still glaring down at him like he was someone small.

Namjoon hates that look, especially because he receives it from his father on a daily basis.

"Be back by noon," His father says simply and walks away.

Despite the anger, Namjoon is at least glad that his father doesn't say anything about him going out to meet Jungkook, unlike the last time when he actually had the guts to insult him. He steps outside and sees his driver and limousine waiting by the fountain.

Namjoon honestly wants to walk but that means spending less time with Jungkook, especially with the tight schedule given by his father. He silently sits in the car as the limousine drives out of their grounds and to the streets.

When Namjoon's phone vibrates and he sees Jungkook's name on the screen, his expression lights up.

"Hey, Jungkook!," Namjoon beams with a grin.

"Don't hey Jungkook me!," Jungkook whines from the other side of the line. "You're late! Again!"

Namjoon frowns and looks down at his wristwatch. Indeed, he's an hour late. He sighs. "Sorry, man. Bumped into my father."

"Oh damn," Jungkook speaks with a completely different tone. "Wait, he actually let you meet me?"

"Yeah, he did."

"See what I mean, dude? Progress!"

Namjoon smiles at the enthusiasm. "He was probably just too tired to deal with me."

It sounds like Jungkook is about to protest but he ends up stopping himself. Then Namjoon hears a small voice cackling as something crashes to the ground.

"Junghwa, I swear to God, if you don't take off ny rollerblades right now, I'll beat your ass!"

There's a silence as something thumps in the background. Namjoon takes the opportunity and speaks before Jungkook can say anything.

"So you haven't left home," Namjoon hums. "What's that about me being late again?"

"Hey, don't judge! I've got Junghwa here!," Jungkook screams. "Don't pull the cat's tail!"

"It's alright, I'll wait," Namjoon smirks. "See you there."

Namjoon hangs up before Jungkook can say anything else. He sighs and looks out the window. The golden bracelet around his wrist glints against the reflection.

Not even a few minutes before the car stops. Namjoon glances at his driver, who is just staring at him silently. He understands immediately and opens the door.

"I'd say that you don't need to wait," Namjoon says as he steps out. "But I know that my father has orders."

Namjoon's driver doesn't say anything. He's a silent man who barely speaks, even around his father. The moment he steps out of the limousine, the door locks.

Afterwards, Namjoon stands in front of the bookstore where he and Jungkook usually meet. He stares at the dusty sign board before entering. The little bell over the door rings.

"Welcome!," Comes the automatic greeting from an employee. "Oh, good morning Namjoon!"

Namjoon smiles and nods at the employee. "Good morning, Han."

Han smiled back and bows respectfully. He stands next to a cart of unsorted books. "You must be here to meet your friend again."

"Yes," Namjoon replies and eyes the cart. "Do you need help? I'll be more than glad to assist."

"Uh, no!," Han waves his hands awkwardly. "Please Namjoon, customers must not work."

Namjoon calmly walks to the cart and grabs one of the books. To Kill A Mockingjay, a classic. He looks up at Han and sees him glancing at him anxiously.

"Alright, then I'll go and borrow this then," Namjoon waves the book and winks playfully at Han.

After the transaction is made, Namjoon sits outside the bookstore and opens up the book. To Kill A Mockingjay, it's a classic he's read more than once. But he can't get enough of reading masterpieces like these.

"Kim Namjoon!"

Namjoon looks up from the book to see a familiar. Jungkook is skating across the street with his roller blades. He's flailing his arms wildly and the way his long hair falls over his eyes— Can he even see?

"I'm not late!," Jungkook insists and points a finger. "I had an emergency!"

"It isn't safe to listen to music while skating," Namjoon huffs and closes his book.

Jungkook skids to a stop and slides onto the bench. He sits next to Namjoon and takes off his helmet to reveal a head of wavy long black hair that reaches his chin.

"Don't lecture me," Jungkook whines and pulls out his earphones. "To Kill a Mockingjay? That's like, the third time this week."

"Had nothing else to read," Namjoon shrugs. "Or do."

"The always busy Kim Namjoon with nothing to do? Almost sounds like a crime," Jungkook grins and cups his own chin in his hand. "I'm bored."

"You've been here for two minutes."

"I'm still bored! Let's do something fun!"

"Like what?," Namjoon raises a brow.

Jungkook pauses and ponders for a bit, hand massaging his chin and all that. All the while Namjoon thinks of why this daily routine seems so boring to his friend.

"Why don't we check out Anne!," Jungkook says and snaps his fingers. "She's trending on Facebook, you know!"

When Namjoon gives Jungkook a look of confusion, the latter sighs and palms his face.

"Not surprised that you don't know," Jungkook pulls out his phone and flashes his screen. "She's a street magician with some sick tricks. She's got a show today and we should definitely see!"

Namjoon squints his eyes at Jungkook's screen. There's a tall girl in a standard magician outfit. Her features are foreign. In the background is that familiar old corner-street bakery.

It makes Namjoon wonder if Jungkook knows about the new family that moved in but figures that he already knows.

"Alright, I don't see the harm in it," Namjoon shrugs.

"Yes!," Jungkook jumps up excitedly. His long hair bounces. "Let's go!"

Namjoon reluctantly follows an overexcited Jungkook. It's difficult to catch up with him, especially with the roller blades, but he's more worried about his friend getting into an accident with those earphones shoved in his ears.

After the two of them enter the more suburban area of Seoul, Namjoon realizes just how long he's been cooped up in his house. The place is almost unfamiliar. He can't remember the last time he's walked around freely like this.

Namjoon reaches the corner of the street and sees the old bakery. There's a moving truck next to it and a stack of boxes just outside the door.

"Joon!," Jungkook calls and skids to a stop. "She's here!"

Jungkook points and Namjoon follows his gaze. Across the old bakery is a tall woman in a standard magician attire. There's a small crowd around her.

"Looks like she just started," Jungkook tugs Namjoon's arm. "Come on, Joon!"

Both Namjoon and Jungkook stand at the side of the crowd as the magic show continues. He's honestly surprised at how he isn't recognized (yet) especially with all his billboards posted on top of every other building.

Namjoon barely gets to watch a show before a broad figure appears in front of him. Suddenly his view is completely blocked by a tall shadow.

"Oh," Namjoon smiles. "Hello, Seokjin."

Seokjin puts on a big grin and engulfs Namjoon in a big hug. "Namjoon! Thank goodness you're here!"

Namjoon flinches and taps Seokjin's shoulder until he's finally released from the death grip. Eun Kyung watches behind him quietly with pursed lips.

"Oh, uh, hello Seokjin," Namjoon hides his awkward tone with a professional smile. "Why are you out here?"

Seokjin immediately puts on the usual scowl on his face and huffs. "I heard there was something performing out here in my streets. Had to see it myself."

"That something is a human being," Jungkook mutters next to Namjoon with a raised a brow. "Her name is Anne."

Seokjin and Jungkook stare at each other. The tension in the air thickens instantly and Namjoon can feel it suffocate them. He clears his throat and tugs Jungkook backwards.

"Sure, not that I give a damn," Seokjin turns away. "I'm only here to conclude if she deserves to be in my streets."

Jungkook's face flushes deep red and the anger in his features is familiar. Namjoon squeezes his shoulder in hopes of calming him down. He figures that he succeeds when Jungkook's unclenches his fists.

Seokjin just chuckles. "Come on, Eun Kyung. I bet this Anna whatever her name is just as embarrassing as everyone else."

"Y-Yes Seokjin!," Eun Kyung shoots both Namjoon and Jungkook an apologetic look before she follows Seokjin into the ground.

"God, Joon," Jungkook groans the moment Seokjin is out of view. "He's such a pain in the ass."

"Don't say that," Namjoon says under his breath.

"Why not?," Jungkook hisses through gritted teeth. "It's true!"

Namjoon sighs. "I know how... different Seokjin is, Kook, but he's still the mayor's son. We can't just talk ill about him."

The way Jungkook grumbles nonsensical things under his breath is telling. Namjoon knows he dislikes Seokjin, in fact most of the people in their class do. But since he's the mayor's son, they can't really... do much about him.

"Fine," Jungkook finally replies. "But if he pisses me off again, don't stop me. I'll punch that pretty face of his."

"You just called him pretty."

"That's not the point!"

Namjoon laughs as he grabs Jungkook's arm and steps closer into the crowd. The show starts almost immediately with Magika forming some soap bubbles in the air. Everyone claps apart from Seokjin.

In those of few moments of distraction, Namjoon glances around. He's surprised at how nobody recognizes him yet, especially after the fairly loud greeting from Seokjin himself. They're all focused on Anne's magic.

Then there's someone who appears behind Seokjin, a short freckled man Namjoon doesn't recognize. He figures he's the one who moved into the old bakery across the street.

Namjoon wonders why he's so curious, after all he's never even met the previous homeowners of the old bakery. Still, he can't but stare at the freckled, dark haired boy, even after Seokjin shushes him away.

Anne's magic is unique, Namjoon can tell. It almost looks real and spectacularly magical. So when Seokjin suddenly walks in and catches the crowd's attention, he's a little more than pissed.

Especially when Seokjin decides to publicly embarrass Anne, Namjoon almost lost his composure. He only went back to his senses when he stopped Jungkook, who attempted to charge forward with balled fists.

Then came a shrill voice, high in pitch but heavy with disgust. "If you hate it so much, then why come here to watch?"

Namjoon gets another look at the new kid, the dark haired boy with freckles spread across his cheeks. He's shouting, protesting. It's an unfamiliar sight.

"Whoa," Jungkook says in awe. "Look at him, screaming at Seokjin like that. He's got some balls of steel."

Namjoon nods with a smile. "It's about time."

After Seokjin walks away in obvious annoyance, Namjoon sees the new boy approach Anne alongside— oh? Taehyung. He's about to join them when his phone buzzes in his pocket.

Namjoon doesn't need to check to know what message it is. Still, he takes the liberty to actually read it. "Well Kook, my father wants me home. Thanks for today."

When Jungkook doesn't say anything, Namjoon raises a brow and glances at him. He's just staring ahead blankly with his mouth slightly ajar.

"Hey," Namjoon nudges Jungkook's side. "Jungkook."

Jungkook blinks. He rubs his nape awkwardly. Despite his long black hair falling over his face, Namjoon can still see the pink tint on his cheeks.

"Don't tell me," Namjoon smirks knowingly. "You're crushing on the new kid already?"

"Huh?," Jungkook blinks again. Then he flails his hands in a panic. "Dude, no! I just think he's... brave, you know."

"I can see right through you, Kook," Namjoon laughs and playfully slaps Jungkook'd back. "Got to go. See you in school."

Jungkook barely replies with what almost looks like a wave. Namjoon laughs all the way to his car and thinks about that stupid expression on his best friend's face during the whole ride.

When Namjoon arrives home, just as he expects, his father is nowhere to be seen. He sighs and bows as all the butlers and maids greet him upon entering.

After stripping into casual clothes, Namjoon walks up to his bedroom. It's silent in the mansion, as usual, but somehow it feels more suffocating this time.

Namjoon doesn't blame his father for being away all the time, especially after his mother's passing. It's his way of coping, he thinks. Maybe drowning himself in work is his distraction.

Then Namjoon opens his bedroom door and immediately notices that something is off.

Namjoon thinks he's smarter than most but he still has difficulty processing what's in front of him. He always makes sure that his room is as spotless and organized as it can be before leaving for the day.

So why is it such a mess right now? His mini fridge's door is open and there are halfway open cans of food on the floor. Not to mention the trail of crumbs leading to his bed.

Namjoon is confused. He doesn't have a younger sibling who would pester him by littering. His father and hiss assistant never enter his room without permission either.

After a long day of interviews and photoshoots, Namjoon just wants to lay on his bed. He's a bit pissed off about the mess in front of him and drops his back on study chair. The jewelry box is open.

Namjoon peeks inside his mini fridge and sees that his slices of cheese are strewn about. The parmesan, blue cheese and cheddar slicer are untouched but the camembert is all gone.

The dots connect in Namjoon's head. He looks down at the trail of crumbs on his carpet floor and clicks his tongue.

"I just had my room cleaned too," Namjoon murmurs and follows the trail.

Namjoon thinks about the possibility of a rat getting in then realizes that it's impossible with the amount of security the mansion has.

"What am I thinking?," Namjoon sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "Rats can't open doors. God, I'm tired."

When Namjoon steps closer to his bed, he freezes when he sees a plate of camembert cheese on his sheets. His eyes twitch at all the crumbs on his blanket and pillows.

Then there's something laying there, a little black creature with needle like legs and long whiskers. It's sleeping on top of a camembert slice.

Namjoon wants to cry at how there isn't a plate separating the camembert from his cheese. He steps closer to remove both cheese slice and the strange creature.

"What the heck is that," Namjoon squints his eyes as the thing snores. He rubs his eyes questionably. "Ha, I must be dreaming or something."

A moment of silence passes as Namjoon steps backwards with his eyes still glued to the sleeping black figure. He steps out of the bedroom and quietly shuts the door.

Namjoon stands in front of his bedroom door for a few seconds. He hears footsteps from nearby and turns to see one of his butlers pass by. She stares at him for a bit. Again, there is silence.

"Young Master?," Butler Dong Hee asks with a towel draped over his arm. "Do you need any assistance?"

Although Namjoon dies of embarrassment inside, he forces on a smile. "No need, Dong Hee. I was just... lost in my thoughts."

Namjoon steps back inside his bedroom and feels his bones shrivel inside. He sits on the floor and gets a perfect angle of that little black figure still snoring over a camembert slice on his bed.

"So this isn't a dream," Namjoon whispers under his breath and eyes his cabinet.

With slow and careful steps, Namjoon opens one of his cabinets and takes out a fly swatter. His eyes glint as he glares at the snoring black creature.

Namjoon tiptoes and grips the fly swatter tightly. The closer he becomes, the more he realizes how much mess there is. Uneaten slices of camembert are on his sheets. His furry slippers are caked with crumbs.

"You disgusting and messy creature!," Namjoon screams and grits his teeth. "Go away!"

At that moment, the black creature's eyes snap open. It glances up to see Namjoon's menacing figure and screams.

Namjoon flinches and swings the fly swatter down. The thing flies— wait what. It flies away with the huge slice of camembert in its little hands.

"Eep!," The thing screeches. "Not my cheese!"

"That's my cheese!," Namjoon screams and continues to swing the fly swatter.

The creature screams and flies around the room in circles. Namjoon chases him with the fly swatter and twitches at the crumbs of cheese that fall to the floor.

"You're making a mess!"

"Leave my cheese alone!"

"Again, that's my cheese!," Namjoon swings his fly swatter and it slaps against the wall.

There's a moment of confusion as the creature disappears and the slice of camembert falls to the ground. Namjoon stares and lowers his fly swatter in relief.

When Namjoon bends down to pick up the cheese, suddenly there's black mist at his feet and that cat thing is halfway through the floor. There's a silence as the two stare at each other with both their hands on the camembert slice.

"Maybe it's about time I get my bug spray," Namjoon murmurs.

"Wait! No!"

Cat creature thing zooms across the room with the camembert and dives into the jewelry box. Namjoon stares as it closes. He takes a few seconds to process it.

"Excuse me," Namjoon sits on his study chair and knocks on the jewelry box. "You live in here?"

"Well, you can say that," The thing's voice mumbles from inside. "Oh! That reminds me."

Namjoon watches with narrowed eyes as the box shakes. It opens to reveal that cat thing chewing on the camembert slice. There's a ring in one of its hands and it looks heavy for his size.

"My name is Plagg," The creature says as he chews. "And this is your miraculous!"

Another silence comes. Plagg waits and loudly chews on the camembert. Namjoon raises his hand and slams the jewelry box shut.

"Hey!," Plagg exclaims and flies. The camembert slice is gone. "What are you doing? Take it!"

"I don't know what you are and what a miraculous is," Namjoon sighs and faces his large window. "But you've got the person. God, I might be even hallucinating."

Plagg flies closer and literally hits Namjoon's cheek. It's a surprisingly strong blow for a small creature and it takes him by surprise.

"It's rude to hit people on your first meeting," Namjoon huffs and rubs his swollen cheek.

"What an oddball, that reaction is just weird," Plagg grumbles. "A hallucination can't punch you in the face so you're looking at the real thing here, kid."

Namjoon hisses as he stands. "If you're here for camembert you can have all of it. Just go away when you're done."

"Tempting but orders are orders," Plagg sighs and flies in front of Namjoon's face. "You've been chosen to wield the cat miraculous, kid. No way around that."

Cat miraculous? It almost sounds like a cosplay. Namjoon laughs under his breath and opens his cabinet doors. He's greeted by rows and rows of designer clothes and pajamas.

"What are you doing?," Plagg asks and bites into another— when did he even get a new slice of camembert?

"Checking if you messed with any of my clothes," Namjoon snickers and goes through all the shirts.

"What?! I can't believe— How dare you think so little of me!," Plagg gasps and shoves a whole slice into his mouth. "I only care about cheese! Not your stinky clothes!"

Namjoon can't help but laugh at Plagg's dramatic tone. After he goes through all his stuff and concludes that nothing is out of place, he closes his walk in closet's doors.

Plagg just goes through the wall. "I'm serious, kid. This is an honor. Master doesn't just choose anybody to have the cat miraculous."

"Master?"

"Oh, uh, she's nobody," Plagg laughs awkwardly with a sudden panicked tone. "Just put it on. You'll get superpowers."

After a short silence, Namjoon releases the laughter he was trying so hard to hold in. He shakes his head as he plops himself on his bed.

God, my brain is weird, Namjoon thinks, this is some odd dream to have. He looks up at Plagg, who is just floating above him with a sort of impatient expression on his face. He can't tell with his lack of eyebrows.

Thinking that Namjoon will eventually wake up anyways, he sits up and gestures at Plagg. "Give it to me."

"Finally," Plagg groans and drops the ring on Namjoon's palm.

Namjoon takes the ring and slips it on. He examines it and is confused by how it looks like an ordinary silver ring. Plagg hums excitedly in front of him.

"So," Plagg crosses his arms. "Feel any different? Hm?"

"Uh, no," Namjoon squints his eyes.

"What?!," Plagg exclaims. He flies closer. "How?! You have the power of destruction in your hands! Ugh, fine, allow me to explain."

Plagg twirls in the air and makes black mist flutter around him. He disappears and Namjoon almost expects to be presented with a grandiose show. Somehow, he isn't surprised when the little cat thing appears with yet another slice of camembert.

"Okay, now I'm ready," Plagg cheers and bites into the cheese. "My name is Plagg and I'm a kwami. Each kwami comes with a miraculous. Combine that with a human and you get a superhero."

"Seems simple enough," Namjoon shrugs. "What kind of powers will I have then?"

"Easy, you can destroy anything with a touch!," Plagg gobbled up the cheese. "That's the power of the cat miraculous, holder of destruction!"

"Hm," Namjoon hums and stares at the ring. "Doesn't sound like anything special to me."

Plagg gasps again and this time Namjoon sees his little mouth open wide. "How dare you?! I'll have you know that you're wearing one of the most powerful miraculouses ever created!"

One of them? It peeks Namjoon's curiosity but he doesn't question it. "I don't feel different though."

"That's because you need the words, kid!," Plagg screams angrily. "Just say Plagg, claws out! and you'll see how powerful you really can be!"

"Oh," Namjoon smirks just as Plagg's eyes widen in realization. "Okay then. Plagg, claws out!"

Suddenly the ring glows. Namjoon's eyes widen as Plagg swirls into the black mist and enters his ring. Now it isn't silver, instead it's an inky black with a cat paw logo at its core.

Namjoon raises the ring away from his face as a green light starts to envelope him. Then he hears Plagg whisper in his head— Kid, you're transforming. Have some fun.

To be frank, Namjoon doesn't know what that means but he goes along with it. He swipes his fingers across his face and a black leather mask appears over his eyes.

Namjoon swipes his hand and watches the light reach his hands. Black claws extend from his fingertips. The leather suit expands to his legs and lastly, gives him a tail with a metal buckle at its tip.

Only after did Namjoon realize his predicament. "Wait a minute, did I just turn into a cat?"

When the realization hits properly, Namjoon runs to his full body mirror and releases a shrill scream. He reaches for ears in his blonde hair and tugs it. Leather, phew.

"So the ears aren't real," Namjoon sighs. "Thank God."

Namjoon hums as he runs his hand down his new suit. It's so tight that it feels like a second layer. Then he notices that his eyes are green and his hair has a more radiant blondness, almost as if it were natural.

"Okay, okay," Namjoon takes a deep breath. "Okay, Namjoon, calm down. This isn't a dream and you have to keep it cool."

"Young Master Kim?"

Upon recognizing one of his maid's voices, Namjoon almost screams again but this time he holds it in. "Uh, er, I'm okay! Just slipped and fell, that's all!"

"Are you okay? Are you in need of medical atten—"

"No!," Namjoon sucks in a breath and dives to the door when it almost opens. "I mean, I'm fine. Please don't worry."

As a silence falls, Namjoon panics about the possibility of anyone he knows seeing him in this cat suit. He hears his maid walk away and slumps to the ground in relief.

Just when Namjoon is about to curse Plagg for putting him in this kind of situation, he feels something poke his ass. He reaches behind his belt and pulls out a metal pole with that same green cat paw logo at its center.

"What's this?," Namjoon murmurs and inspects the pole. He presses something and a screen appears at its base. "Is this a high tech phone?"

There's a long list that appears instantly and the unimaginable length is something Namjoon is used to. It reminds him of his modeling and advertising contracts. So he reads the whole thing quickly with ease.

"So it's a user guide," Namjoon hums and closes the screen. "I wish Plagg could have at least briefed me about this before he made me transform."

Namjoon holds the pole in both of his hands and thinks hard. His eyes widen when it expands just enough to be as tall as his bedroom door.

"Okay, so that part is confirmed," Namjoon nods as he stands. "I can control this pole with my will, even without words. So that means..."

Whilst Namjoon recalls the contents of the user guide, he glances down at his ring— no, his miraculous. The power of destruction harbored in one little ring, it almost sounds hilarious, even more-so than him wearing a leather cat costume.

Then there's the ladybug miraculous, his other half, the bringer of peace and resolver of chaos. Namjoon wonders who it could or if someone is already chosen to wield. Yet, it's impossible for him to know, especially because he doesn't even know what the ladybug miraculous looks like.

Cataclysm. Akumas. Namjoon tries hard to keep all the new vocabularies in his head. He leans on the wall and stares at his ring again. It makes him wonder— what has he gotten himself into?

Namjoon looks down when he hears his phone buzz loudly. There's an emergency broadcast flashing on his screen. He swipes it without much hesitation.

"Doves attacking people," Namjoon whispers as the reporter continues to scream. "Is this... an akuma attack?!"

Namjoon expects Plagg to answer so when he's greeted by silence for a whole minute, he figures Plagg can't talk when he's wearing the suit. The embarrassment hits him soon after and he feels the heat rush to his face.

Then Namjoon thinks— wait, so he's technically a superhero now? In this suit, he's no longer famous model Kim Namjoon, instead he's... a cat, thing, person, sort of.

Which means he's free. In this suit, Namjoon can be himself.

As Namjoon drops his phone, he thumps his chest and extends his pole until it's as tall as a walking staff. He pushes his window open and feels the cold breeze blow on his face.

"Watch out, Seoul!," Namjoon screams into the air. "There's a new superhero in town!"

Namjoon grins and snickers. He jumps off the window and extends the pole as he uses it to vault himself over the golden gates. Only then does he actually get a good look at his own mansion.

"Wait," Namjoon squats and tugs his hair. "I don't know where the akuma is! God, I'm so stupid!"

With a low groan, Namjoon vaults to the next building. He sticks to the wall with his claws and climbs up to the roof in all fours. Huh, since when was he this flexible?

As Namjoon sits on the roof, his tail swings behind him. He glances around and puffs his cheeks at the absence of murderous doves. So he vaults again and again.

Soon Namjoon reaches a familiar corner street bakery. He stares at it for a while just a few doves pass him mid-vault. Thanks to that, he barely makes it to the roof.

"Guess I'm close enough," Namjoon groans and rubs his head. "Huh?"

Everything goes in slow motion. Namjoon sees something swing in the air, a little red yoyo with black spots. He follows the string attached to it and sees a... man at the other end.

His blue hair makes a reflection under the sunlight. Namjoon can see the radiance from his red suit and the glow in his ocean blue eyes. He passes for almost a split second but the memory burns into his mind.

It takes a while until Namjoon regains his senses. He blinks and feels the warmth on his cheeks. Behind him, his tail curves into a heart.

"Wow," Namjoon sighs dreamily. "I don't know who that was but he was... beautiful. That passionate red with those ravenous dark spots—"

A pause. Red color, dark spots. Namjoon puts two and two together and gasps out loud. He grins and stands. The pole in his hands extends again.

"I'm coming for you, my ladybug!," Namjoon cheers and jumps off the roof.

It's a fail because Namjoon ends up falling to the ground face first after a group of doves collide with his metal pole. He just lays there for a moment, ponders, then looks up with a furious expression.

"You damn birds!," Namjoon chases that flock angrily and they caw in panic.

Once Namjoon actually catches one of the birds in his claws, he realizes that he's deep into the city. People run around in a panic as a tornado of doves circle around some building. Weird, he doesn't know exactly where he is.

Namjoon glances around and sees someone just standing there. Contrary to the panicking citizens, he's just standing there casually. It makes him worry, at the same time he wonders if that guy is stupid or something.

"Excuse me?," Namjoon approaches the guy with his pole on his shoulder. "Do you know what's going on here?"

The guy turns around with a big smile and Namjoon recognizes him immediately. It's Taehyung. He's holding his camera close to his face.

Taehyung is fairly known across Seoul for his city blog— well, no, that's a lie. He's famous among his friends with his online persona called Vante. Still, him being in the middle of this mess to blog is both brave and stupid.

"I don't think it's safe for you to be he—"

"Are you a superhero too?!," Taehyung exclaims with sparkling eyes and pulls his phone out of his pocket. "That's so cool! I can't believe superheroes actually exist!"

It takes a moment until Namjoon realizes his voice is being recorded. He clears his throat and puts on a cocky expression with a grin gently curling across his face.

"Of course I am!," Namjoon says proudly and spins the pole in his hands. "Am here to save... whoever is in trouble. Say, have you seen a man with a ladybug costume around here?"

"You mean Lordbug?," Taehyung replies with a little hop. "He just swung into the city hall to rescue Seokjin. He's being kept hostage by some evil magician."

Lordbug? Namjoon thinks about the name for a while. "Huh, for someone as godly as him, no wonder he named himself Lordbug."

"Hm?," Taehyung hums.

Namjoon realizes he said it out loud but smiles anyway. "Heh, so the akuma is in there, huh?"

"Akuma?," Taehyung asks again but this time there's a frown on his face. "Would you mind explaining what an akuma is, Mister Cat?"

Wait, Mister Cat? Namjoon groans at the realization of him having no superhero name. He glances behind Taehyung and at the doves circling around the city hall.

"Sorry, no time," Namjoon extends his pole and winks playfully at Taehyung. "Lordbug needs me. Ciao!"

Namjoon vaults off the streets and hops over some stray doves. Then he lands on top of a police car and its ceiling actually dents under his feet. For a moment, he just sits there and stares at the epic battle of paper snakes against Seoul police force.

"Looks like you guys are having a paw-some time," Namjoon smirks as his tail swings behind him.

"Who the hell are you?!," A policeman screams and dodges a paper snake.

"Oh? Me?," Namjoon shrugs and casually crushes a paper snake to the ground with the end of his pole. "Am a friend of Lordbug's. Heard he needed some help."

"First a ladybug and now a cat. Just great."

"Sorry officer, do I not look that appealing to you?," Namjoon does a round-kick and smashes snakes on the car's ceiling. "Didn't your mother teach you not to judge a cat by its fur?"

"Weird suit or not, he's the best help we have right now. Lordbug is in there fending off the magician!," A policewoman screams. "Get in there and help him!"

"Yes, Ma'am," Namjoon winks and pretends to tilt a hat before he vaults away.

As easy as it sounds, Namjoon vaults over the doves and uses some as a stepping stool. He soon reaches the city hall's balcony and sees a peculiarly open pair of doors.

"This has Lordbug's scent all over it," Namjoon shortens the pole and attaches it to his belt.

Namjoon takes a stroll across the room and sees the familiar portraits at each side. He freezes when he sees a model poster of himself— what the heck is this doing here?

That's when Namjoon realizes he's standing in Seokjin's bedroom. All the pink is blinding, not the mention that huge poster of him is in the center, right next to Seokjin's huge framed photo of himself.

Oh God.

"No, focus," Namjoon slaps his own face. The bell on his collar jingles. "Right now, you're not Kim Namjoon. You're, uh, a cat."

God. Namjoon knows he has to think of a superhero name sooner or later. He sighs and comes up with options in his head.

"Mister Cat is too basic," Namjoon mumbles as he walks the down the stairs and scrapes the railings with his claws. "Catman... Ew, that's just cringe."

There's a loud crash ahead and Namjoon freezes at the bottom step. A playing card breezes across him but he hears it cut through the air. That's when he sees that magician fighting against Lordbug, who is standing on top of a chair Seokjin is tied to.

Lordbug spins the yoyo in his hands and it forms a pink glow. The light makes a reflection on his blue hair again and now Namjoon can see the freckles just at the tip of his nose.

"Huh," Namjoon slowly sits on the bottom step. "He's doing a good job on his own."

Namjoon soon eats his words when Lordbug falls to the ground. Magika, the name he heard during the fight, stands over him menacingly with those sharp blade like playing cards between her fingers.

"Oh," Namjoon shrugs and extends the pole. "Guess it's my turn."

After Namjoon licks his lips, he throws his metal pole and grins when it hits Magika's hand. He then pounces behind her and rolls on the ground before hooking both of his arms underneath hers.

"Oops, were you having a moment?"

Namjoon casually tosses Magika away and cracks his knuckles. "Sorry for in-purr-upting. Need some help, ladybug?"

"You think?!," Lordbug hisses in reply.

Huh. It's strange. Namjoon has never seen anyone looking at him with such spite, especially with all the people who would fawn over him. Somehow, that makes Lordbug even more attractive.

After Namjoon frees Lordbug from the paper snakes wrapped around his body, they go against Magika as a duo. It's surprisingly refreshing to be fighting against a villain alongside someone.

Stuff happens and at one point Namjoon ends up on top of Lordbug. He smirks at the way Lordbug huffs at him and grins.

"You know, little bug," Namjoon smiles after he boops the tip of Jimin's nose. "I wasn't that fond of having a partner but now, I don't really mind."

Lordbug makes a face of disgust and it's more than amusing to Namjoon— or Black Cat, which in the blur of things is now his superhero name. He likes it, especially since it was Lordbug's suggestion.

It's initially a mess but thanks to Lordbug's quick wits, they manage to defeat Magika. A purple butterfly flutters out of her weapon and Namjoon assumes that it's the akuma.

Namjoon watches in awe as Lordbug does some fancy moves with his yoyo. He captures the akuma and releases it to reveal a normal butterfly.

"Bye bye, little butterfly," Lordbug says as the butterfly flies away.

God. Namjoon thinks that's adorable. Even after Lordbug tosses his paint bucket in the air and screams his name, even after everything is fixed, all Namjoon can think about is Lordbug's little nose and bright blue eyes.

Then Namjoon gets an idea and he grins.

"Nice going, Lordbug," Namjoon winks as he raises his fist. "Didn't get the plan at first but it was great."

Lordbug shrugs. "Hate to admit it but I couldn't have done it without you, kitty."

"Guess that officially makes us partners, huh?"

Lorbug stares for a while but he eventually gives in and returns the fist bump.

"Yep. Pound it."

After a moment of confusion with the reveal of Anne being Magika and the strange encounter of a very excited Seokjin, Namjoon and Lordbug part ways. He leaves with a heavy heart but doesn't want to de-transform in front of national television.

Namjoon barely makes it back to his room before Plagg suddenly dashes out of his ring. His suit disappears instantly.

"Wow, I'm beat," Plagg says as he slowly flies to the fridge. "Thanks for the cheese."

Just when Namjoon is about to ask what Plagg means, he opens the fridge and dives into a whole cheese roll. He laughs and walks to his computer desk.

Namjoon has a stupid grin on his face. He sits in front of his computer and sighs dreamily. The image of Lordbug's face is etched permanently in his mind.

As Namjoon logs onto FaceNote, he mumbles to himself. "Oh Lordbug, a man as beautiful as you... who could you be?"

"Wow," Plagg flies closer to Namjoon with a slice of camembert in his hands. "You've been with him for five minutes and you're already in love? Why is that so familiar."

Namjoon ignores Plagg's comment and scrolls through his feed. He pauses when he sees Taehyung's recently uploaded photos. He's with that short man who stood up to Seokjin in the streets just a while ago.

They both have big grins on their faces. Namjoon smiles and gives the post a like.
