chapter eight
|EIGHT|
TO DREAM
Eira was confused.
All she knew her whole life was that her mother was a witch and so that made her one, too. She didn't understand how her blood could do such a thing as letting a vampire walk in the sunlight.
"Of course I'm a witch, Eric," she argued.
"The blood of any witch wouldn't do that," he shook his head. "You're something else."
She frowned, "Like what?"
"What did your mother tell you?" Eric asked.
She only remembered learning about the powers of a witch. But there was something her mother always reminded her: never attempt to kill a vampire.
It was an odd warning but one she nevertheless uttered. She had it drilled into her system.
"Don't kill vampires," Eira muttered.
Eric furrowed his eyebrows in thought before he pushed her gently towards her bedroom up the stairs, "Come on. You're not staying here."
He wouldn't let her stay here any longer with a killer on the loose. But also he wouldn't let her stay as he took in the state of her window. He would have someone fix it.
"Okay," she agreed as they entered her room before giving him a look. "But you need to turn around."
He smirked in amusement as his eyes raked over in just a robe. She blushed before she did a little stomp with her foot and he thought it was so adorable. He reluctantly turned around as he sighed.
"And don't even think about looking," Eira commanded.
"You know I've killed people that have ordered me around."
"Bet they weren't people you liked to kiss," she teased as she put on some clothes and he shook his head.
When she was done, he turned and he grabbed her hand as pulled her along to go downstairs. Usually, he just grabbed her and they were gone. She furrowed her eyebrows, "Aren't we going to fly?"
"Not yet," he answered as they stepped outside in the sunlight.
He smiled as he closed his eyes to the feeling of the setting sun. Eira stared in bewilderment again; it was still so shocking. She half expected him to start burning.
"You're not burning?" she asked in worry. "Or bleeding?"
"No," he opened his eyes and they danced across her form in admiration. He could see how the sunlight shined in her hair and framed her face like a golden halo. He reached out and touched a strand as he uttered, "Beautiful."
She blushed before he suddenly leaned over and kissed her senseless. He ran his hands through her hair that he could now see the sunlight shine on. She felt butterflies and her knees felt weak. When he pulled away, she was breathless.
"I can kiss you in the daylight," Eric grinned like he'd dreamed of doing just that as he leaned his forehead against hers.
She smiled giddily as she stared into his eyes. She noticed that his eyes looked so beautiful under the sunlight. She could finally say they really did match the color of a cloudless sky. She couldn't help but press her lips back to his one last time before they left to Fangtasia.
_____
After arriving at Fangtasia, Eric swore Pam to secrecy about the little secret of her blood. Pam easily complied and tested out walking in the daylight herself the next day; she didn't burn.
After, Eira wasn't allowed to leave Fangtasia. While the serial killer that murdered her mother was on the loose, he wanted her with him at all times. She didn't mind as she didn't want to go back to the house that screamed of nothing but loneliness.
Although, with how clingy Eric was, she got the sense that he was still bitter over someone else tasting her lips. It was like he didn't entirely trust she wouldn't place someone else in her heart. But didn't he know that was his as well? She was too nervous to tell him that, though, as she stayed with him at Fangtasia.
She stayed at Fangtasia all day and all night. By staying, she quickly adapted to a vampire way of life. She slept in a coffin with him during the day and at night, she would sit in his lap on the throne of Fangtasia. They were inseparable.
Currently, she was sitting in his lap on the throne. She wore something that Pam had which was very revealing and Eric caressed his fingers over the birthmark on her shoulder. He did it constantly now and it drove her crazy.
"It has to be this," he muttered as he stared at the birthmark; it was something that he'd mentioned before. "What did your mother say about it?"
"Uh huh," she hummed as his fingers moved back and forth over the mark ever so softly in a way that placed butterflies in her stomach as she became entirely unfocused.
He furrowed his eyebrows at her answer as he brought his eyes up to hers, "Are you even listening?"
She blinked as his eyes were suddenly on hers and she was confused, "What?"
He chuckled before he teased with a grin, "Is something distracting you?"
"Yes," she giggled before she pressed her lips to his.
He was lost to the touch that was her lips. They disappeared in an instant to his office where he kissed her all night long and left hickeys on her skin. He even left another bite mark.
_____
Eira joined him in his coffin during the day. Even though he could go around in the daylight, he ran a nighttime business and he also got the bleeds if he didn't sleep so daytime sleeping it was.
"Do you dream of me at all?" she asked as they laid in the coffin together with her practically on top of him.
Eric grinned as he pressed a kiss to her neck before he whispered, "I dream of doing very bad things with you."
She blinked in confusion for a moment before she gasped, "Eric!"
He chuckled and she huffed a bit before she revealed, "Well, I dream of you."
"Oh, really?" he quirked an eyebrow.
"Not like that," she smacked his shoulder. "Sometimes, I dream of us living together...and my mother would visit."
She wore a frown and he rubbed her back as he looked at her carefully, "Just because she's dead doesn't mean she's gone. You'll always carry her with you."
She formed a small, sad smile before tilting her head up to look at him and her smile widened, "Well, dream sweet dreams...of me."
He did, in fact, dream of her. He dreamed of her sweet smile in the sunlight; that was all he ever wanted to see.
____
When night came, Eric woke up but he didn't move. She was still sleeping and he didn't dare wake her. But when she did, god, it was beautiful. He'd seen it multiple times since they started sleeping in a coffin together but he was still so awed by it.
She always had her head laying on his chest. She'd start to blink her eyes open and as soon as she looked at him, she'd gain this little hazy smile like she was so happy to see him and her day was made even though she just woke up. It was so adorable and it made his chest feel warm. Then he had to kiss that smile on her lips.
That was how she woke up every time, to Eric kissing her senseless. She was already dazed from sleep but his lips made it a heaven. Tonight, they kissed for a long while before the coffin door was thrown open.
"Look at you two cozied up in a coffin," Pam smirked before she crossed her arms. "But you can't stay in a coffin all night, Eric. You have a business to run."
Eric rolled his eyes as he got out of the coffin with her. He looked at Eira softly before he followed after Pam. He sulked as he did so because he most certainly would stay just to kiss her forever or even to just dream of her smile.
