Chapter 24

Hannah sat in Dr. Weller's office with Allen, holding his hand. All of the blood work and MRI results had finally come back and now was the moment of truth. The good doctor was ready to tell Hannah what they showed. She was a little bit surprised to see that Hannah was without Chris but remembering her estrangement from him, didn't say anything. She had met Allen before at the Hope to Heal Center and knew that Hannah trusted him.

Dr. Weller sat down at her desk across from the pair and opened Hannah's file, looked at the papers in front of her, and took a deep breath before she began to speak.

"Hannah, your MRI shows that though you still have white matter on your brain, it is stable and the lesions have healed. But it was your blood work that surprised me the most. It is almost completely normal, all things considered."

"What does that mean?" Hannah asked inquisitively.

"It means that your EBV has gone dormant though it does show past flare-ups; which is a given. Once it is in your system, it'll always be there. Your Hashimoto's virus is stabilizing itself and the levels are falling. Your liver, glucose, Vitamin B12, cardio, and other levels are completely normal. Your tachycardia doesn't have anything to do with your heart but is more stress-related; meaning your heart is completely healthy and strong.

The only things that still need to be worked on are your cholesterol and Cortisol which need a stricter diet and more exercise to correct as well as getting rid of your stress levels. Your Vitamin D is a bit low as is your biotin and all you need for that are supplements that you can find at any drug store."

There was a deafening silence on all ends. Dr. Weller was having a hard time speaking because she was getting so emotional over what she was saying to Hannah. She had never seen anything like it. Her patient had made a total 180 degree turn around in her health without any medication or treatment. M.E. never had a cure, the disease was 80 years old and there was still nothing for it to save the millions of lives out there that were touched and ruined by this monstrous illness. Many had even died from it.

Yet here was her patient, a woman who had seen so much adversity in the last few years; who had turned to meth addiction to escape from it all. But here she was sitting across from her with the dumbfounded looking DEA agent. Allen was completely speechless. He couldn't make heads or tails of what the doctor was saying. For an agent who was used to thinking quickly on his feet, these results had left him feeling unsteady. As if he was standing on a log that was floating in the water and trying really hard not to pitch into the water.

"Do you believe in miracles?" Hannah asked than with a wide and peaceful smile on her face. It was then that both Dr. Weller and Allen realized that Hannah wasn't the least bit surprised by the results of her tests.

"I honestly don't know." Dr. Weller responded truthfully. Allen just sat there still unable to react except to nod. They were both about to get the shock of their lives.

"Well, this happened after I had my blood drawn the first time and it was during the time for forgiveness letters. Caddie had read hers to me but I didn't know who to write mine to. I walked into the park past the veranda and was just breathing in the air. Suddenly, a beam of sunlight hit me from above and enveloped my whole body. I heard wind chimes, which was odd since the center didn't have any. They used to a long time ago, so to hear them now, didn't make any sense whatsoever.

The sunlight streamed through my entire body and I felt in that instant, everything change. It was like every molecule within me was moving around and growing. My energy was replenishing itself as if I was a dried up plant that had water for the first time in eons. I'd never felt anything like that before in my entire life. To me it seemed as if the universe as a whole had taken me in its arms and was holding me tightly, making me feel safe, secure, and well."

Dr. Weller and Allen sat listening to this story in awe and amazement. The doctor started to process something in her mind while Hannah continued her story.

"I felt like my atoms were being transformed into something new and different. As if I was one with the universe for that long moment. I can't tell you how long this lasted because I lost track of time. But I think with these results, the proof is right there. What happened to me was divine intervention and I became a miracle....miracle from M.E.....miracle me." She finished with a content smile.

"I'm just starting to wonder if the bungle with the lab and retaking the blood after your amazing experience was also part of this divine intervention. After all, who knows what the other blood panel would have showed? That was taken beforehand. We will never know and perhaps we weren't meant to. Perhaps the mess up was done on purpose—and I don't mean the lab did it on purpose other than screw up royally as always—but it was supposed to happen that way." Dr. Weller thought out loud.

"Everything happens for a reason. Now you all can see that I'm living proof." Hannah looked peacefully at them both.

Dr. Weller had tears in her eyes as did the other two. She got up from her chair then and came over to Hannah and gave her a hug as everyone dried their tears. Dr. Weller knew that there wasn't any scientific, logical, or medical explanation for what had happened to Hannah. There was no way to debunk this as just a fluke. Too many things had happened at about the same time. The alignment in the universe couldn't have been more perfect for Hannah. Allen knew it too.

He knew then that everything from their meeting that time in the doctors' office those years ago and then at the raid house the first time was all predestined. And he wasn't even the spiritual type. But this was just too much to ignore. He knew he would need more time to wrap his mind around everything. As he was thinking that, Dr. Weller promised to help Hannah get back on track with everything else she needed to get to the right place and there wasn't that much left now that everything was falling into dormancy like a volcano long overdue for hibernation; in a way Hannah had been her own Mt. Vesuvius.

Finally, they had heard and spoken about everything and it was time to leave. Hannah had gotten a copy of her results which Allen promised to keep safe at his house while she was finishing up rehab. She realized that she only had 2 more weeks to go before it was time to go back to real life without a clue about where that would lead her. They walked in silence towards the elevator and rode down to the parking garage where they had gotten into his car where Allen turned to her for a moment before starting the ignition.

"Why didn't you tell me about your experience before?" He asked her quietly as she touched his cheek with her hand lovingly and smiled.

"I had to be sure it wasn't a fluke or a dream. It had to be real so I wanted to see what the blood work and the rest of the results showed."

Allen nodded then and taking her hand in his, he brought it to his lips and kissed it. He then started the car and drove back towards the center to drop Hannah off. She knew that soon it would be time to see where her future took her but this time though she had a ton of uncertainties; she knew in her heart of hearts, she wasn't alone. Not in person and definitely not in spirit. She stared out the window as the beautiful blue sky and trees passed them by.
