I walked through the desert with no idea where I was going. The world had practically ended after a nuclear war that destroyed every city. Now there were just a few people left who all were like me, stuck with no idea what to do. "I am so thirsty!"

I kept walking and saw a city up ahead. A falling apart uninhabited city, but a city. I wondered through it for what seemed like several hours. I looked inside another building and thought that it was like the rest so started moving on to the next. But I caught a glimpse of something with a light. I quickly turned around and saw a vending machine. "YES!!."

It was on the seventh floor, it could be seen since the floor was missing in the middle. I looked around and saw that the stairs were blocked by rubble. I turned towards an elevator shaft, the elevator was in the basement and destroyed. I jumped onto one of the cables that are used for the elevator and started to climb. When I got to the floor I wanted I had to swing over since there wasn't any other way across. I ran over to the machine and saw that it said 1:25 as payment. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a crumbled up dollar, as well as 2 dimes and 5 pennies. I put the dollar in and the machine spit it out, I straightened it out a little and put it back in. It spit it out again, so I flattened it and smoothed it out before putting it in again. IT. SPIT. IT. OUT. AGAIN!!!. So I put it in slowly and kept my hand over the machines dollar insert. When it finally accepted the money I put in the 2 dimes and 4 pennies, 'Wait four pennies?'. I looked around for my 5th penny and saw it rolling to the edge of the room before falling out of the building. "Ahhh!"

I looked over the edge and saw it still rolling away. I ran to the elevator shaft and began my descent. Once I got to the first floor I bolted out the door and started to search the area for that penny. I wondered around for awhile, looking under debris, cars, and anything else it might have gone under. After what seemed like forever I heard a barely audible plea for help. I ran to where I heard the voice. When I turned a corner I saw some guy trapped under some rubble. "Oh, thank god someone heard me, can you get me out of here?"

I looked around the area. "Have you seen a penny go by here?"

He looked at me strangely. "Yeah do you mean this."

He showed me a penny. Reached down a snatched it. "Thanks."

I started running back. "Wait, can you get me out first?!"

I kept running while talking. "I'll be back in a minute just hang on!"

When I finally made it back to the building I put the penny in my pocket and climbed up the elevator shaft again. Once I got to the machine I pulled out my penny and put it in, I then pressed a random option and heard the machine dispense my drink. I picked it up and was about to open it when the building shook and I dropped it. I watched as it fell, rolling down floor by floor on debris. 'Damn it, so close'. The soda was rolling to the edge of the third floor. 'Gotta hurry!'. I saw a cable that was loose so I jumped on to it and swung back and forth slowly sliding down and swinging closer. I watch as it started to slip off the building so I swung to the second floor and reach out my hand as it fell, grabbing it before it could hit the ground. "Finally!"

I opened the soda and took a gulp of it, savoring the taste. I then spit it out. "Yuck diet, bleh."

I threw the soda away. "Guess I better get back on the road."

I started walking out of the city. "I feel like I am forgetting something, meh guess it's not important if I forgot it."

(Guy trapped under rubble)

The guy was still stuck under the rubble. He looked around waiting for the guy to come back and help him. "Hello?! You still coming back?! Anyone?!"
