I'm calling it RIGHT now, this power or whatever eventually takes control of K.O and turns him evil. That's probably what's happening here.

Her 6 - 11 year old son wanted to be powerful, so he accepted help from a mysterious stranger, but it is more than likely too much for him to handle and takes him over, possibly turning him evil.

This could maybe be after they beat K.O or something and they're all waiting for him to wake up. Imagine him just lying there for a while, not moving or anything before they finally wake him up. Could you imagine how worried she must be that K.O could be dead?
