Ming Feng was born to unnamed parents. She has no idea who her biological parents were, and she has no idea how she ended up an orphan. She was kept in foster care, but most of her families were only in it for the money. She would get ignored, so she'd act out for attention. Each time, though, she just ended up getting sent back and placed with someone else, repeat.

She landed with one foster family who used the money they were supposed to use for her on themselves. She wasn't cared for, and she was ignored, and often not fed. So, the ten year old resorted to stealing meals, and also things she wanted. By thirteen she was a professional at sneaking around, at stealing, and even conning others.

This led to her being caught, though, and she eventually ended up in juvenile detention, and then on probation. The same foster family was willing to take her back, and they personally knew the probation officer. That is partly how he got away with what he did to her.

Ming was molested and forced to perform sexual acts with the probation officer, and her foster family kept quiet about it for money. As long as there was something in it for them they'd keep quiet, and the molesting persisted up until she ran away at fifteen years old. She sneaked onto a jet headed to South Korea, wanting as far away from China as possible.

Her probation officer found her, so she ran as long as she could. She ran all day and night, and by Christmas afternoon, she reached a cabin after running through the woods. It ended up being Kim Taehyung and Seung's (his wife) cabin. She was invited into the group house and got something to eat, and Byeol could immediately tell that she was being abused.
