ALMOST A SANDWICH

JILL placed her hands on Adela's shoulders and hesitantly pushed Adela away. Adela fell to the floor, scoffing in disbelief. Again, she was made a fool of. She made herself the fool, once again. Jill stood quiet, looking at her hands with a solemn expression on her face.
"I see how it is." Adela mumbled, getting up from the floor. She wiped her hands onto her pants, glaring at Jill before looking away.
"Adela... it's—."
"No, you don't need to explain. I'm the one in the wrong here." Adela shrugged, looking away from the short haired woman. Everything Adela felt she had with Jill went down the drain. Was anything real? Was Jill really just 'experimenting?'
There was an awkward silence between the two, Jill shaking her head at the situation. She hesitantly made her way towards the shotgun on the wall, placing it into her hands when she took it off.
"Let's get moving." She mumbled, Adela rolling her eyes at Jill's voice. If there was one person Adela wanted to avoid right now, it was most definitely Jill Valentine. God, she felt so stupid. However, they were on survival mode. There was no time for Adela's emotions to come into play.
Adela opened the door to the next room, peering through only to see that it was vacant. There was nothing but a light on the ceiling and white walls that complemented the wooden panels on the floor. Jill entered the room, closing the door behind her. Before she could even say anything, she felt some type of dust fall on her shoulder.
"What?" Jill muttered, Adela immediately getting confused from the falling dust as well. The two women's eyes widened, watching as the ceiling started descending to their level.
"Shit! It was a trap!" Adela exclaimed, growing panicked as the ceiling made it's way down to the two.
"Let's go through the door we came from!" Jill suggested, the two immediately making their way towards the door. Adela grabbed the door knob, pulling it. Adela furrowed her eyebrows, tugging on the knob harder.
"It won't open!" She cried out, placing her foot on the door as she tugged.
"What the fuck do you mean it won't open?!" Jill glanced around the room, spotting the door on the other end of the room. "This door!" Jill called out, the two racing towards the other door. They try tugging on the door knob, that door locked as well.
"Help!" Adela called out, pounding on the door. Jill did the same, feeling her heart pound against her chest. This was really the end for them. She was going to die with the person who now hated her guts because of her stupidity.
"Wesker, Barry! Help!" Jill shouted, Adela feeling her chest tighten as the ceiling got closer and closer to the two. She didn't want to die with Jill, especially considering the fact that she wasn't understanding to her. There was no closure between the two.
"Jill, I know I fucked up and you probably think I'm an asshole and you're right!" Adela started, breathing heavier and heavier. "I-I should respect that you want to figure yourself out and I'm a bitch. I'm so sorry Jill." She apologized, Jill shaking her head at her words.
If the adrenaline wasn't high enough, Jill's stomach would be full of the same old butterflies Adela always gave her. She appreciated Adela's words, hopefully she wasn't just saying that because their dooms were just so close to them.
"Jill, Adela? Are you guys in there?!" Adela and Jill looked at each other with hopeful eyes before responding to him.
"Barry?! Get us out of here! The door's jammed!" Jill informed, the two crouching down a bit as the ceiling got lower.
"Stand back!" Barry announced, Jill shifting closer to Adela as best as she could. Adela grabbed Jill's hand, interlocking them as she shut her eyes. Jill tightened her grip on Adela's hand, feeling her heart race more and more; hoping that Barry found a way to get the door open.
Barry shot at the door's lock, opening the door. Adela quickly let go of Jill's hand, crawling out of the room. "Grab my hand!" Barry called out. Jill quickly slid the shotgun out of the room, then grabbing Barry's hand. The man dragged her out of the room, right as the ceiling completely descended.
The two women regained their breath, looking at the death trap room in horror. Jill blinked a bit before shaking her head in disbelief. "Thank you, Barry. I don't know what we would've done without you." Jill rubbed her forehead before standing up.
Adela cleared her throat, standing up as well. "Yeah.. thanks." She mumbled, crossing her arms at the two.
"That was a close one. A second late and you would've fit nicely into a sandwich." He remarked. Adela narrowed her eyes, cocking her head to the side. Wasn't Barry supposed to be on the first floor? She was thankful he saved them but why was he here?
"Again, thank you." Jill thanked again, helping Barry up from the floor as well. "But, Barry, didn't you say you were going back to the dining room to find other clues?" Jill questioned, Barry tensing up at her question.
"I mean, I'm glad and all but, why are you here?" Jill asked, tilting her head a bit. Barry stood quiet for a few seconds before exhaling slowly.
"I just had something I wanted to... check." He hesitated, starting to walk away from the two women. "Anyway, we should get back to searching for Wesker and Chris." He diverted, ready to turn the corner.
"Thanks, Barry. I owe you one." Jill responded with a small smile, Adela crossing her arms in frustration. This was certainly not how Barry acted. He was always truthful and honest. Why was he suddenly so secretive?
"Don't mention it." And with that Barry left the two alone. Adela shook her head, sucking her teeth at the conversation that just unfolded.
"That was weird." She muttered, moving a piece of her hair out of her face.
"Yeah. I think he's hiding something." Jill added on, furrowing her eyebrows. "What would he be hiding though?" She inquired, Adela shrugging her shoulders.
"I don't know and quite frankly, I don't care. I just want to find Chris and Wesker. This place sucks." She huffed, growing sick at what could've been her demise.
"I know now isn't the time... but about what you said back there..." Jill trailed off, Adela raising an eyebrow at her words. "D-did you mean it?" She stuttered, Adela growing tense at her words.
Adela stood quiet for a few minutes before nodding slowly. "That doesn't mean I'm still not angry. You played with me." She mumbled, Jill letting out a soft scoff.
"So you didn't mean it. Nice." Jill turned her back towards the Latina.
"Jill, you need to understand my side—."
Jill whipped herself around, turning to look at her partner. "I understand your side, okay?!" She interrupted. "And that's all I've been hearing. Your side! What about me?! Do you even care about how I'm fucking feeling?!" She snapped.
"I do care! I've done nothing but care about you, even while you were being petty about this shit! I don't have to care for you!" Adela fired, Jill practically feeling steam come out of her ears.
"Then don't!" Jill shot back, Adela flinching at her words. Jill kept a stoic look on her face, Adela letting out a snarky chuckle.
"You know what? Fine. I won't." Adela shoved past Jill, Jill closing her eyes in regret. God how she hated fighting with Adela. However, she didn't think she was wrong. Adela was being selfish and most definitely wasn't considering her feelings.
"Let's get moving." Adela grumbled, making a sharp turn around the corner. Jill took a deep breath, following the other woman.
'Chris, where are you?'
The two spent hours searching the mansion, dodging through the various traps and monsters that had gotten in their way. To be quite honest, it was a surprise that the two were alive. Maybe it just had to do with the adrenaline rushing through them but luckily, they were alive. Exhausted but alive. For the past two hours, it had been nothing but silence and gunshots between the two. Neither of them spoke to each other, only ever communicating through one word phrases such as "first aid spray" or "bullets." They most definitely were on edge and the tension was thick.
As the two walked, they came across a loud groaning sound. This sound didn't appear to be monstrous, but to be human. As if someone were in an enormous amount of pain. The two lifted their weapons up, ready to shoot anything that came at them.
The two entered the room only to see one of their team members stumble in, holding their side. It was none other than Richard Aiken. Jill's eyes widened, immediately rushing to the injured man's side. Adela kept her weapon up, almost guarding the two.
"Richard! What happened?!" Jill asked, examining the wound on his side. "You're wounded!" She observed, Adela kneeling down beside them after scoping out the area.
"This... whole place... is a killing zone." He grunted, clenching his jaw at the pain engulfing him. "There are monsters..."
"We know that already. Just tell us what happened." Adela responded, Jill shooting a sharp glare at her. Could she not be sympathetic for at least one second? Their friend— well her friend, was hurt. A little compassion would've been nice.
"Very lovely, Adela." Richard replied sarcastically, immediately hissing in pain.
"What did this to you?" Jill examined the man, her eyes widening as he pulled up his bleeding, red arm. On Richard's arm there was a huge, jagged snakebite. Snakes? Not only did they have to deal with zombie and ravenous dogs, they now had to deal with snakes.
"A big snake... and it had to be... poisonous." He mumbled, his good arm clinging onto his injured one.
"Poisonous? Richard, hang in there." Jill furrowed her eyebrows, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Bring me the serum.... I saw some but I didn't bring any..." He muttered, slowly starting to drift off.
"Adela and I are going to go get out, okay? You're gonna make it." Jill some softly, Richard falling into an unconscious state afterwards.
"C'mon, let's go. We have to find that serum." Jill sighed, taking her gun out as she made her way towards the door.
"And where is the serum exactly?" Adela questioned, examining her pistol. "How are we going to cure Richard if we don't know where the serum is?" She inquired, placing her gun into her holster. "Didn't think about that, did you Valentine?" She mocked, Jill narrowing her eyes at Jill.
"Will you stop acting like a complete bitch for five minutes? Richard may not be your friend but he's mine and I don't want him to die." Jill growled.
"I never said I wanted him to—."
"Okay, good. Now let's get moving." Jill opened the door, leaving Adela behind. Adela turned back to look at Richard before making her way towards the door.
"Alright, Ms Valentine. Lead the way."
