WHO TO TRUST & WHO TO NOT

JILL and Adela busted through the door of room 002, resulting in Barry to jolt up from the sudden action.

"Jill, Adela! Shit... you both scared me." He laughed nervously, placing a hand on his chest. Both Jill and Adela glanced at each other, a bit skeptical of Barry's behavior. Adela put her gun back into her holster, placing both hands on her hips.

"Barry, who were you talking to?" Jill inquired, putting her gun into her holster as well.

"Oh... who was I talking to?" Barry made his way over to one of the desks, leaning on it. "I think age is starting to take its toll... Talking to myself is becoming a bad habit." He admitted with yet another nervous chuckle. Adela raised an eyebrow, shaking her head.

"Really? Cause I've never heard to talk to yourself before." Adela tilted her head, staring at Barry with a suspicious glint in her eye. "What are hiding, Burton? Who were you talking to?" She interrogated, Barry avoiding Adela's stare.

"I think I'm worrying you two a bit much. Don't be worried." Barry began. "I guess it's the vibes of this creepy mansion... gotten on my nerves a bit." There was an awkward silence between the trio, both women completely untrusting of the man. They loved Barry, they really did. However, he was hiding something. "I think I'm gonna go get some air... I think that'll do some good.."

"Some air? This isn't a fucking place where you can get some air." Adela scoffed, shaking her head.

"Adela's right. I don't think it's best to leave you by yourself. You're not well, Barry." Jill spoke in a much more softer and caring tone. She didn't want Barry to feel as if they were being aggressive, especially if they were a bit skeptical of him. He was still their friend and it was quite obvious that he wasn't okay.

Adela on the other hand, didn't care. Did she love Barry? Yeah! She adored him. However, he was full of shit. He was definitely hiding something from them. This little secret he had could either harm or benefit her and Jill. Adela was always one to face things head on; never one to sugarcoat things. If you were just a little bit suspicious, she'd begin looking at you if you were. If you were hiding something, she'd treat you like you were an enemy. If Barry was hiding something that would hurt them, she'd never ever forgive him. Even if he did help her with the little things she needed help with.

"Don't worry. Just going to get some fresh air. If I'm lucky I'll get to waste some monsters along the way..." And with that, Barry left the couple alone. Jill was absolutely bewildered by their confrontation. Seeing Barry like this made her extremely worried.

"Bastard's hiding something." Adela huffed, taking her gun out. "If this shit is going to affect us in the future, he needs to fucking tell us." She twirled her gun in her hand, her eyebrows furrowed fitting the scowl on her face.

"I get that Adela but you can't just-."

"Oh, another lecture? Just fucking save it, Jill." Adela interrupted, placing her gun on the desk. "Fuck Barry's feelings. He's a fucking suspect at this point. There's no way he was talking to himself and you know it." Jill stood quiet, glaring at Adela. "I know how much you care about Barry, I do... but I'm not changing my mind. You need to open your eyes and see that Barry's not all as innocent as you make him out to be."

"Let's just keep moving. I don't want to talk about it anymore." Jill mumbled, Adela letting out yet another scoff.

"Why don't you want talk about it anymore?" Adela tilted her head. "Because you know I'm right?"

Jill clenched her fists, letting out a heavy sigh. "Fuck! I don't want to fight 24/7! Can we please get from point A to point B without coming at each other's throats?!" She snapped, Adela giving her a half smirk.

"I was just asking a question. You were the one who got all pissy about it." She pointed out, picking her gun up. "Let's get moving, Valentine." Adela shoved past Jill as she exited the room, Jill letting out a low growl as she followed Adela.

'This woman is going to be death of me.'

The two spent ages, going through various rooms and hallways; only to find an underground passageway. As soon as they entered the double doors, they find a room full of water, surrounded by some semi-destroyed machinery.

"How did the owners get away with owning a place like this?" Adela breathed out, looking around as they made their way into the aqua ring.

"Okay... let's keep moving. I don't like the looks of this place." Jill hopped into the aqua ring, Adela giving Jill another obnoxious smirk.

"What's wrong, Jill? Afraid of a little water?" Adela teased. Jill flipped Adela off, the brunette letting out a jovial laugh.

"No. Just don't know what's-." Jill squinted her eyes, watching something swim around in the main pool. "Sharks? Are you fucking kidding me?" Jill huffed.

"Surprised they didn't open a zoo, honestly." Adela remarked, Jill rolling her eyes at her comment. "Just trying to lighten up the mood."

"Now's not the time." Adela rolled her eyes at Jill's comment.

"Sorry, just wanted to lighten up the mood." Adela mumbled, following Jill.

"I know. You're just not funny." Jill shot back, Adela flipping her partner off. Jill pulled the lever on the panel, draining the water. Her eyes scanned the area before spotting gallery key hanging on a rack, on a platform across a small pool of water.

"Watch my back, alright?" Jill asked softly, Adela nodding at her words.

"When have I not?" Adela scoffed, a small smile growing on Jill's face. Jill reached for the the key when a huge shark lashed out, knocking the key from it's place.

"Fuck!" Jill exclaimed, almost falling backwards onto the floor. Adela caught Jill, steadying her before taking her weapon out.

"Shit! What do we do?!" Jill's eyes quickly scanned the room, glancing at the control box by the edge of the platform.

"Help me push the control box!" Jill called out, Adela immediately running towards the box. This was fucking insane! Zombies, rabid dogs, gargantuan snakes and now man eating sharks?! How were they able to hide this from the government for so long?

"Ready?" Adela questioned, Jill nodding in response. Both women pushed the control box onto the water, Jill flipping the power switch for it afterwards. An electric current coursed through the water, shocking the shark. The shark convulsed before becoming unresponsive. The control box stopped shooting out sparks, letting out steam.

"Jesus fucking Christ, it never ends. It's one thing after another." Adela sighed in frustration, taking her beret off to run a hand through her hair.

"Let's get out of here before it magically springs back to life." Jill hopped off of the platform, picking the key up from the floor. Adela followed her, Jill chewing on her bottom lip as they moved.

"Oh and Adela?" She let out softly. Adela raised an eyebrow at the woman, waiting to hear what she had to say. "Thank you. Y'know... for catching me."

"Are you being serious this time?" Adela inquired, keeping her guard up.

"Yes." Jill nodded. "I genuinely mean it. Thank you."

Adela stood quiet for a minute before letting out a hum. "Don't mention it."

After exploring the lab for another hour, the two were roaming the halls. It was like a maze. They made their way into one part of this forsaken place, only to end up where they started. This whole piece of land was like a maze, constantly twisting and turning wherever they went.

Jill and Adela were walking when they heard three gunshots. Almost as if it were on instinct, both women took their guns out and made their way towards the sound. And there he was. Their leader, Captain Wesker.

Both women looked at each other with wide eyes. They were almost in disbelief. They hadn't seen Wesker in hours. Adela truly believed he was done for. Though she never really got along with Wesker, she was at least happy to see that someone with authority was still alive.

"Wesker!" Jill called out, Wesker turning around at the sound of her voice.

"Jill, Adela. So, you're safe." He said in his signature monotone voice.

"That's what I was going to say." Jill responded with a raised eyebrow. God, she was so happy to see him right now. It was good to know that she, Adela and Barry weren't the only ones alive. However, she was still cautious of him. If Adela and her haven't misheard, Wesker was plotting. He was their captain, there's no way he'd hurt his teammates. Right?

"Where the hell have you been?" Adela questioned, placing her gun back into her holster. "We thought you were dead." She spat.

"I apologize. It was all I could do to protect myself against those strange creatures." Wesker walked past both Jill and Adela, both women turning in his direction.

"I understand." Jill nodded. "Anyways, it's good that you're safe."

Wesker was silent before speaking up again. "Did you notice, Barry? He sounded a little flaky."

Adela narrowed her eyes, tilting her head slightly. Barry was acting a bit strange but so was their so called captain. Wesker just creeped Adela out. In fact, he gave her butterflies. Not the good ones either. You know, the type of butterflies you get when you're anxious? That's the type of butterflies Adela had now. There was something so mysterious and eerie about Wesker. She just couldn't pin point what.

"Yeah, he did." Adela agreed. "We'll be keeping an eye on him." She responded. 'And on you too.'

"Maybe it's natural under these circumstances. It's not our standard operation." Wesker began. "Girls, our first priority is to get out of here." He turned to look at Adela and Jill. "There are still rooms in this mansion we still can't get into because they're locked up. I've been looking for ways to get in."

"Okay, if there's anything, Adela and I will go back into the other mansion." Jill responded, placing a hand on her hip.

"I'm counting on you two." And with that Wesker left, leaving Jill and Adela alone.

"Something's not right about him, Jill." Adela huffed. She glanced around, immediately lowering her voice. "You know when we were listening to Barry's conversation in that room earlier? The man on the opposite end kind of sounded like Wesker."

"I know. It honestly could have been anyone though." Jill pointed out, Adela scoffing at her response. Adela opened her mouth to say something, only for Jill to hold her hands up.

"Let me finish. If Wesker was the person Barry was talking to, we can't trust him either." Jill finished. "I know we may not be on good terms right now—."

"Which isn't my fault." Adela interrupted. Jill rolled her eyes, fighting the urge to argue with her.

"But, we only really have each other at this point. Chris is missing, most of our teammates are dead and Wesker and Barry are obviously hiding something. It's only us."

'Only us.'  Those words flooded Adela's brain, hitting Adela right in the heart. It was true. Though Jill practically hated her guts right now, she was all Adela really had left. Everyone else was either dead or suspicious. But, this wasn't the only time it was only them. In fact, it had been like that since the beginning. From the moment they meant. Somehow those words just felt wrong. They weren't really together in the way they were before last night. They were separated, forced to be by each other's side to survive. That within itself hurt Adela the most.

"Only us."
