INTO THE NIGHTMARE
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
ADELA sat next to Chris in the chopper watching as Jill silently sat next to Barry, probably listening to one of his many stories. She hadn't spoke to Jill since their little makeout session last night. It was all so confusing to her, considering the fact that Jill was the one who perpetuated the kiss in the first place. Why was she not talking to her? She didn't do anything. Well, at least she thought she didn't.
"Del, you alright?" Chris asked, nudging her side a bit with her elbow. "You've been dazed out the whole trip. Scared?" He teased, Adela immediately turning her attention to him.
"Scared? No. Annoyed? Yes." Adela responded, letting out a soft sigh. Annoyed at the mission? A little bit. Annoyed with Jill's shady behavior? Yes.
"Annoyed?" Chris raised an eyebrow, looking in the direction she was looking at earlier. "I'm guessing it had to do with Jill?" He inquired, Adela widening her eyes at the man.
"How did you—."
"You won't stop staring at her." Chris interrupted. "You guys are two peas in a pod, so to see you guys separated with each other baffles me." Adela scoffed at his words, shaking her head.
"Baffles?" Adela teased with a playful smile tugging on her lips.
"What? I'm not all muscle, baby." He smirked, Adela letting out a small laugh. "Now, are you gonna tell me what's going on?" He asked, Adela's laughter dying down.
"Okay, I'll tell you." She started bouncing her leg, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing. Does she tell Chris about Jill kissing her and break his heart? Considering that he possibly liked Jill. Adela didn't know if he did but she knew damn well that there was something between them. Or does she potentially out Jill, straining their friendship even more?
"We um— well last night she.." Adela took a deep breath before she could continue. "She got mad at me because I made a joke and I... took it too far." She lied.
"Was the joke about her dad? Cause if it was, then that's very fucked up." Chris said, shaking his head at her.
"N-no, it wasn't that." She denied. "Just something else. Now she won't even look at me." She sighed, placing an arm on her right knee.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear about that." Chris apologized. "Anyways, you know Jill. She'd just need time to process what happened and she'll be besties with you in no time." He reassured.
"You think so?" Adela asked, feeling a bit vulnerable. Yes, Adela didn't need anyone by her side to make her feel like she was okay but it was different when she didn't have Jill by her side. Jill was always there for her when she needed her the most and the fact that she wasn't right now made her feel uneasy. Adela needed her best friend with her, especially right now.
"I know so. Besides, Jill isn't one to hold grudges." Chris continued. Adela nodded, furrowing her eyebrows.
"Yeah.. this is gonna pass."
'Hopefully.'
After sitting there for a while Brad had landed the helicopter, ushering his crew mates out of the chopper. As soon as Adela stepped out of the helicopter, she could just feel the humid air waft in her face. Something felt wrong and it wasn't because of her personal issues. Just the vibe of the dark forest they were in felt... different.
'Focus, Adela. The quicker you can find the bodies, the quicker you can leave.' Adela kept her pistol in her hand, making sure that she was armed at all times.
She moved with a Barry and Wesker, side glancing at Jill once in a while to make sure she was okay. 'Stop it, Adela. Jill's a big girl, she could handle herself.'
"You find anything yet?" Barry questioned, Adela shaking her head at the question.
"Considering I haven't moved away from you, no." She sassed, Barry letting out a small laugh.
"Having issues?" He asked, Adela nodding in the process.
"Yeah. I'd rather not talk about them." She responded, feeling her heart grow heavy. God, she hated the feeling of Jill being mad at her. For starters, she didn't know what she did wrong and secondly, Jill had never been "mad" at her before. These things never bothered her but honestly, she was feeling quite bothered at the moment.
"Adela, I'm here for you if—." Before he could finish his sentence, there was a death curdling scream and three shots coming from the east side of the forest.
"Adela, go check it out." Wesker ordered, Adela glaring at him before quickly making her way towards the noise.
Adela squinted a bit, realizing that Jill was there with her weapon up. "Jill, are you..." Adela stopped midway, staring at a pack of savage dogs feasting away on Richard. The woman felt her heart sink to her stomach, nausea overthrowing her. The sight was absolutely horrific to see yet she couldn't look away.
One of the dogs turned their heads, looking straight at Jill and Adela. Jill staggered back slowly, the dog following after the two. Jill falls to the floor, the dog charging after her.
"Fuck!" Adela quickly jumped in front of the fallen women, bracing herself for her impending doom. Before she could feel the dog use her arm as a chew toy, there was a loud gunshot, killing there dog. Both Adela and Jill turned their head in the direction of the gunshot, revealing Chris with his weapon up, smoke coming out of the barrel of the gun.
"Come on!" He motioned with his hand. In one swift movement Adela lifted Jill up, interlocking their free hands together and holding onto their guns with their other hands.
The trio ran for a bit, dodging the dogs before heading the whirring sounds of the helicopter they arrived in, flying away.
"Hey! Brad!" Chris called out. "Where the hell is he going?!" He shouted, frustration laced in his tone.
"I swear to God, the next time I see him he's dead fucking meat!" Adela growled, trying her best to run as fast as she could.
Soon enough the dogs started catching up. Chris slowed down, turning around to brace himself for the impact of the dog jumping at him. Before the dog could even grab onto Chris' flesh, it was shot down immediately.
"Chris this way!" Chris gave Wesker a nod, running past Wesker and up to Adela and Faye, as the Alpha Leader fired three rounds at the vicious dogs. Alongside Wesker, Barry fired at the dogs for a few before running with Wesker, Chris, Jill and Adela.
"Dammit!" Barry exclaimed.
"Make for that mansion!" Chris pointed out.
"Very convenient." Adela muttered, running towards the mansion with Jill still clinging onto her.
Enter the survival horror.
The double doors of the mansion busted open, immediately closing the doors behind them. Wesker, Barry, Jill and Adela stood in the ornate looking main hall, gasping for air. Even while being bent over and heaving for air, Jill still had her hands interlocked with Adela.
Barry straightened his posture after regaining his breath, placing two hands on his hips. "What is this place?" He inquired, Adela looking up to see the beautifully lit hall in front of them.
"Not quite your ordinary house, that's for sure." Wesker responded, taking a look at the hall himself.
"Wow.." Adela admired breathlessly. She had only ever seen houses like this in big Hollywood movies. Though she accepted the fact that no matter how hard she worked she'd never get a place like this, she didn't think she'd be standing in one.
The two women stood up straight, Jill furrowing her eyebrows. "Hey Wesker, where's Chris?" She asked as she made a break for the door, only to be held back by Adela's grip.
"Let go of me! Chris is out there!" Jill ripped her hand away, rushing towards the two double doors.
"Jill, stop!" Adela raced over to the brunette, grabbing her arm harshly.
"Listen to Adela, Jill. You don't want to go back there." Wesker ordered, Jill stopping in her tracks.
Jill shook her head. "No. He's out there, we've just got to—." There was a loud gunshot that had interrupted Jill's frantic behavior, causing everybody to look in that same direction.
"What was that?" Barry asked. Adela released her grip from Jill's arm, taking her gun out as fast as she could. Though she was extremely petrified, she had to be ready at any cost.
"...Chris?" The group looked at Wesker, Adela placing a hand on her mouth in shock. It couldn't be, it just couldn't.
'No... It can't be..' Adela thought to herself, tears welling in her eyes. She couldn't lie when she said she was envious of Chris. From his caring demeanor to his teammates to his charming smile. And don't get her started on the way he treated Jill like an absolute princess. Hell, maybe even better than her. However, never in a million years would she want to lose one her best friends. No matter how jealous she was.
"No.." Jill felt her heart drop, furrowing her eyebrows at the thought of losing Chris. She couldn't lose him, not in a million years. He had been there for her when she was going through her darkest times. Losing him would be devastating.
"Girls, go and investigate." Wesker demanded, Adela narrowing her eyes at him.
'Of course, send the two women who aren't on good terms at the moment. That'll be fun.' Adela huffed, making her way towards the doors on her left.
"I'm going with them. Chris and I go back a long way." Barry winked at Adela, with her giving him a weak, thankful smile.
"Alright, you three go. I'll secure this area." Wesker confirmed. "Stay sharp!" He called out, watching as the three of them made their way to the doors on the west side of the hall.
Jill and Adela stand on opposite sides of the door while Barry waits in front of it with his magnum drawn. The trio looked at each other before Barry busted it open with his foot.
As Adela, Barry and Jill entered the room with their guns drawn, they size up the area. They find the dining room to be completely empty, the fire place blazing at the end of the room.
"A dining room..." Barry mumbled. Barry proceeded to walk towards the end of the room, leaving Jill and Adela behind to investigate on their own.
Adela watched as Jill started to move down the room. She shook her head, grabbing Jill's arm before she got too far.
"Jill, we need to talk. Like, now." Adela stated, a stoic look on her face.
"First, let go of me. Second, we have absolutely nothing to talk about." Jill ripped her arm away from Adela, continuing to make her way down to the other side of the room, only for be stopped by Adela once again. Adela stood in front of Jill, placing her hands on her hips.
"No, you're not going to walk away from this. Why are you mad at me? What the fuck did I do to you?" She asked lowly. She then turned her head towards Barry and then back at Jill, lowering her voice. "Did I do too much when I—."
"Don't you dare bring that up. Everything that happened last night was a mistake." Jill interrupted, pointing her finger at her.
"Didn't seem like it." Adela rebutted, crossing her arms. "Be real, you like me so you kissed me. It's okay to admit that." She shrugged.
"No! I-I don't like you.. I'm not.." Jill felt her cheeks heat up at the thought, her stomach forming into little knots.
Adela raised an eyebrow at the woman, waiting for her response. "You're not what, Jill?" Adela persisted.
"I'm not... like you." Jill responded, feeling her throat tighten at each word. "I-I'm not— I don't like women, okay? Everything that happened last night was merely experimental." Jill blurted, Adela being taken back at her words.
Adela scoffed, shaking her head. "That's bullshit and you know it. I've seen the way you look at me because.. I look at you the same way." Adela felt her eyes mist up a bit, swallowing dry. "Stop fucking denying it. Just admit that you feel the same way as me." She wavered.
Jill bit her lip, looking down as tears grew in her eyes as well. She so desperately wanted to admit it but she couldn't. It was wrong. She shouldn't feel this way at all.
"I can't." She whispered, Adela shaking her head in annoyance. She wiped the stray tears from her eyes, annoyed with this whole situation.
"This is garbage. I'm not gonna listen to this anymore." She sniffed. "When you're done being a pussy and when you're done caring about how other people think about you, then you can talk to me. I'm not going to let someone treat me like trash because they can't figure themselves out." She spat.
"Adela—."
"Jill, Adela! I think you'd better take a look at this." Barry called out.
"You just started a war, Valentine."
