THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
JILL and Adela made their way towards the elevator shaft. There were so many thoughts running through Adela's mind. For starters, she was glad that Chris was okay. He was alive and secured away from the monsters that roamed the mansion. He looked healthy. A bit drained but healthy. He didn't look sickly or dead. Her friend was alive and that's all that mattered. After losing all of her other teammates, Adela had hope for survival.
All they had to do was find a way to open the door to Chris' room and then they were home free. At this point, Barry wasn't even on Adela's mind. He was acting so wishy washy, she didn't know what to think. One minute he was helping them and the next he was acting weird. How did this even come to be? Was Barry always this shady? Surely he wasn't like this before.
Jill and Adela was about to make their way into the elevator when Barry came around the corner.
"Jill, Adela!" Barry called out, jogging towards the two women.
Jill and Adela looked to each other, growing cautious. Was Barry going to aim another weapon at them or was he going to play nice?
"Barry." Jill clenched her jaw slightly, slowly reaching for the gun hoisted on her hip.
"You should've at least waited up for me, ya know." Barry punched Jill's shoulder playfully, Jill flinching slightly.
"Yeah. We should've." Adela remarked sarcastically, rolling her eyes lightly. "Now are we gonna sit here or are we gonna get going? This isn't a hang out." She sassed.
Barry was taken aback by Adela's attitude. He could tell she was hurting. He felt horrible, however, he couldn't blame her. He hurt both women, betraying their trust. However, if they knew what was going on they wouldn't be so defensive. Soon everything was going to come to light. They wouldn't be angry anymore. This was all for his daughters anyways.
"Of course." Barry nodded, getting onto the elevator shaft.
The trio had arrived at their floor, Adela's eyes widening once she laid her eyes on the capsules. Each capsule had some sort of estranged monster inside. Is this what Umbrella was doing? They swore to help citizens with their illnesses yet they were creating bio weapons? And for what reason? Adela was dumbstruck. How could this be happening? How could the government allow this to happen?
Jill furrowed her eyebrows once she spotted Wesker hunched over a keyboard, typing into the computer. Both women looked to each other before looking back at the man.
"Wesker?" Jill let out, her breath hitching once she felt the barrel of Barry's gun pressed against the back of her head.
Adela's heart dropped to her stomach, losing all hope. So she was right. Wesker and Barry weren't to be trusted. She always had this weird feeling about Wesker and the fact that he was hidden away in a laboratory with no scars just proved it. Albert Wesker was behind everything.
"Thank you, Barry." Wesker thanked, not bothering to look up from his computer.
Adela was right. Jill didn't want to believe Adela when she told Jill about her suspicions on Wesker. God, she felt like a fool. If she had listened earlier her and Adela would've been able to plan something. If it weren't for how emotional she was. She was such a mess.
"Well, what do you know." Adela huffed.
"Well, you shouldn't worry too much, dear. You'll be free of all this anyways." Wesker responded, his words making Adela's blood boil.
"Why eliminate STARS?" Jill inquired, keeping a cool composure. Internally she was panicking a bit. She knew that if she flipped out, Adela would flip out even more.
"Believe it or not, that's Umbrella's intention." Wesker responded.
"Oh, so you're Umbrella's little pet? Who would've known? Surprised you aren't running the operation." Adela spat, narrowing her eyes at the man in front of them.
"Smart girls... but I think you misunderstand me." Wesker began. "The things you mention are nothing. I'll burn all of them along with this entire laboratory. That'll be the end of my connection with Umbrella."
"Barry, go up on the ground and wait there." He ordered.
Barry obeyed, walking out of the laboratory.
Jill's eyes widened, turning her head to look at Barry. "Barry!" She called out, a frown on her face.
"Ya gotta love Barry... he must really be afraid of Umbrella." Wesker smirked.
Jill's frown turned into an angry scowl. Umbrella was blackmailing Barry. This whole time, he had been trying to protect his family.
"You and Umbrella took his family! You bastard!" Jill exclaimed.
Wesker punched Jill, resulting in her to fall onto the ground. Jill groaned, rubbing her jaw.
"Don't fucking touch her!" Adela tried to punch Wesker, only for him to flip her over.
Adela grunted in pain once she fell to the floor.
"Adela!" Jill crawled over to Adela, wrapping her arms around her.
Wesker smirked at the two, shaking his head before speaking again. "Umbrella... well, I used some carrots and sticks to cow him, but it had nothing to do with Umbrella. I just used Barry for my personal interests. Though you and Barry seemed to think I was following Umbrella's orders."
Jill furrowed her eyebrows, a confused expression written on her face. "What? What are you planning?" Jill asked, holding Adela close. Adela got onto her knees, staying in Jill's arms.
"I guess it's time for show and tell." Wesker pressed a button on his keyboard before looking at one of the Tyrant tanks.
Inside of the capsule, there was a large creature. The monster was encrusted with scars and hideous missions. Instead of a regular hand, it was replaced with a massive claw. It's heart was on the outside of it's chest. There were veins and scar tissue across. It looked as if it were in a deep slumber.
Out of all the things Adela had seen on this trip, she never felt this sick to her stomach. She didn't know if it were how tall the creature was or how it's organs were practically out on his body; it made Adela sick to her stomach.
The Tyrant's tank began to drain.
"It's magnificent." Wesker marveled, watching his creation.
"For the same of this thing..." Jill helped Adela up, not being able to keep her eyes off of the creature.
"Jesus fucking— shit." Adela winced.
"You know, I hate you guys." Wesker said simply, aiming his gun at both women. His gun was shot out of his hand, another shot hitting Wesker. Wesker grunted, falling to the ground.
Both Adela and Jill snap their heads at the direction of the gunshots, only to see that it was Barry who saved them.
Jill gasped, tears brimming her eyes. "Barry!" She ran over, engulfing him in a tight hug.
Adela smiled, joining the hug. She closed her eyes, the lump in her throat growing. She felt horrible. She was fucking horrible to him. To be fair, Adela didn't know about what was going on. She should've known. Barry was too loyal to turn his back on two friends.
"Forgive me." Barry frowned, holding the two close.
"No, you're not to blame. It's Umbrella and Wesker." Jill reassured, pulling away from the hug.
"I'm sorry, Barry. I didn't know... I shouldn't have—"
"Adela, it's okay. I probably would've done the same thing." Barry gave Adela a small smile. "Even if it meant my family, I couldn't bear turning my back on my friends again."
Wesker crawled over to the keyboard, typing something in before falling to the ground again.
Barry's eyes widened, running over to the computer. His heart sunk to his stomach, turning his head to the capsule.
"Shit!" Barry exclaimed.
The liquid began to drain from the stasis tank. The Tyrant awoken, smashing the capsule with it's free hand. Once the glass was cracked, his shattered the glass with his claw. It stepped down, staring down at Barry, Jill and Adela.
God, Adela felt like shitting then and there. What did Wesker do?!
"Dammit!" Barry stood in front of the two; aiming his gun at the creature. The Tyrant walked towards the trio slowly. "You want a piece of me?!" Barry shouted.
The Tyrant stopped and turned toward Wesker. Wesker stood up weakly, visibly taken aback by the monster's actions.
"What? Premature?!" Wesker exclaimed.
The Tyrant backhanded Wesker, causing him to fly across the room. Barry tried to run past it, the Tyrant throwing him into the row of computers.
"Barry!" Jill gasped, turning to Adela. "Make sure he's okay. I got this viral cultured freak." She quickly whipped her gun out, aiming at the monster.
"No. I said I'd always have your back." Adela shook her head, taking her gun out as well. "And that's what I intend to do."
Jill smirked softly, happy to have Adela by her side. The two began firing at the monster. After shooting it down, the monster fell onto the ground.
As soon as the monster was defeated, they ran over to Barry.
Jill knelt next to Barry, looking him over. "Shit... Barry? Barry!"
Adela frowned, sitting beside Jill. Barry had to be okay... after everything they've been through, he had to be alive. They needed him to be. Chris needed him to be.
Barry's eyes fluttered open, letting out a groan in response.
Jill sighed in relief, looking up at the ceiling before looking down at him again. "You're okay." She let out softly, a small smile on her face.
"Ah, Jill... Adela..." Barry let out weakly. "I'm sorry... that was careless of me. Wesker?"
Jill looked around, wincing once she saw Wesker's limp body across the room. "He's gone."
Adela stood up, helping Barry up in the process. Barry thanked Adela, picking his pistol up from the floor.
"First, let's just get out of here."
And with that, the trio fled out of the laboratory immediately.
As the trio exited the room a loud alarm started to fill the hallways, along with a voice.
"The self destruct system has been activated. All personnel must evacuate immediately. Deactivating and releasing all locks."
Jill and Adela's eyes widened. "We have to save Chris! He's locked up in here somewhere!" Adela exclaimed.
Barry nodded. "Alright, let's hurry." He took his pistol out and the three immediately started running towards the elevator.
Once they got to the bottom level they ran over to Chris' cell, opening the door to his cell.
Chris jolted up, a smile on his face once he saw both Jill and Adela. "Jill, Adela!" He pulled the two women into a tight hug.
"There's no time for hugs, we gotta get out of here." Adela moved away from the hug, Chris nodding in response.
Jill opened her mouth to say something, only for her radio to beep.
"This is Brad! I'm running out of fuel... if there's anyone alive, contact me now; just give me a sign. I repeat! This is your last chance."
"Shit, that was Brad! We got to hurry!" Jill exclaimed.
"Then what are you waiting for? Get moving, Valentine!" Adela grabbed Jill's hand, leading her towards the elevator.
As Jill activated the elevator, somewhere down the hall, a hunter shrieked. Chris pointed his gun in the direction of the noise, starting to follow it.
"Dammit, we're almost there! Girls, you just get in contact with Brad!" Barry ran down the hall.
"No!" Jill sighed in frustration. This was the last thing they needed.
"We can make it. Jill, Adela, ladies first." Chris ushered them into the elevator.
"Chris, I'm not leaving you guys behind." Jill shook her head. She wasn't going to lose him again. Not after last time.
"Will you let me have my moments too?" Chris sighed.
Adela hesitated, her hand hovering over the button. "You better not get yourself killed." Adela warned.
"I'll be fine. You don't call me muscles for nothing anyways." Chris smirked, sending her wink before running off.
"Dipshit." Adela pressed the button before grabbing Jill's hand. She gave it a tight assuring squeeze.
"You ready to bust out of this joint?" Adela asked, a small smile playing on Jill's lips.
"That sounded so corny." Jill chuckled. Adela's stomach erupted in butterflies, hearing Jill's laugh. She was so fucking cute when she laughed. Shit, leaving her was going to be so hard.
"Yeah. But you love it anyways." Adela smiled, pressing her forehead against the side of Jill's head.
Jill blushed, leaning against Adela. "You know I do." She whispered, giving her hand a squeeze as well.
Once the two got onto the upper level, Jill ran towards the signal rockets case. She pressed the button, firing it up into the air, watching as it exploded.
Barry and Chris arrived, the two men making their way over to the women.
"We're almost there... we're almost out of this—" Before Adela could finish her sentence, there was a loud crash.
The group snapped their heads toward the sound, only to see the Tyrant from earlier standing before them.
"You got to be kidding me! I thought we killed that fucker!" Adela growled, taking her gun out almost immediately. After the shit they went through, it'd be absolutely horrible if they died. They had gone through literal hell. Dying was not an option for the woman. She needed to leave alive.
Jill, Chris and Barry also take out their weapons, their firearms trained on the grotesque Tyrant in front of them. Both Barry and Chris fire at the Tyrant, only for Chris to go flying once the Tyrant punches him.
Jill's eyes widened, her heart dropping to her stomach. "Chris!" Jill ran over, immediately rushing by his side.
Adela watched in horror, her stomach churning at the sight. Were they actually going to die here? Their guns were no match for this monster's strength. Was Adela giving up? No. She was just being realistic. Yes, each member of the remaining S.T.A.R.S. team was strong in their own ways, however, it wasn't enough to destroy this thing.
After slinging Chris across the court, the monster started to make its way slowly towards Barry. Barry shot at the creature, tensing up once he heard a click come out from his gun.
"Shit! I'm out of ammo!" Barry exclaimed, looking at Jill and Adela with fear in his eyes. The monster continued to advance towards Barry, slowly.
"Fuck fuck fuck." Adela whispered shakily, scanning the court for anything to use. Her eyes widened once she saw a large rocket launcher lying in its case next to Chris and Jill. Talk about convenient placing. "Jill! The launcher!" Adela called out.
Without a beat, Jill ran towards the launcher. Adela quickly rushed over to Chris, helping him up from the floor.
"You okay? Can you walk?" Adela asked Chris, slinging his arm around her shoulder.
"I'm fine. Tis was just a scratch." Chris responded half jokingly, removing his arm from Adela's shoulder to nudge her side.
Adela rolled her eyes, wincing once she saw Jill struggle to get the launcher onto her shoulder.
"Hey asshat!" Jill called out, alerting the monster. The Tyrant stopped in its tracks to look at Jill. She was now his new prey. As soon as the monster started to advance towards Jill, she pulled the trigger. Barry got down, shielding himself.
The rocket hit the Tyrant in the chest, resulting in it to explode. Guts fall everywhere, coating the remaining S.T.A.R.S members in its blood.
Though Adela would've been disgusted by the blood and guts on her skin, at this point she was desensitized. She was just elated that the menacing creature was gone and out of her hair.
"C'mon! Get on!" Brad called out from the helicopter. Jill dropped the rocket launcher and made her way onto the ladder. The others followed soon after, having a seat once they got inside. They made it. They fucking survived.
The helicopter began to fly into the horizon, wobbling a bit as the mansion behind them exploded. A burst of orange and yellow flames filled the scene behind them, the heat from the blast hitting their skin.
Adela sat across from Jill and Chris, leaning her head back. It was over. They had survived this fucked up night. She took her beret off to wipe the sweat from her forehead. God, she couldn't wait to get back home. Surely, she was going to need a therapist. However, that didn't matter to her right now. After this dreadful night, she was most definitely leaving Raccoon City. This was her last and final straw. She needed to be happy and clearly it wasn't here.
