GAME OF SURVIVAL
⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
ABOUT fifteen minutes later, Jill and Adela returned back to Richard with the anecdote in their hands. To be completely honest, those fifteen minutes felt like fifteen hours due to the constant bickering Jill and Adela did. Jill thought the anecdote was one way but Adela insisted that it was another way. Moral of the story, Jill got her way and was right all along. Adela absolutely loathed being wrong, especially if it was with someone she was infuriated with.
"There he is!" Jill exclaimed, letting out a sigh in relief. "Quick, check his pulse while I give him the anecdote." Jill ordered, Adela shaking her head.
"Shouldn't I give him the anecdote? I do have more skill in medicine than you." Adela rebutted, Jill rolling her eyes in annoyance. If was every minute with this girl.
"Does it matter?" Jill questioned through gritted teeth, Adela scoffing at her words.
"You know what? Fine. Give him the anecdote wrong, watch what happens." Adela leaned against the wall with crossed arms, Jill take a deep breath. Hesitating a bit, Jill held the anecdote out for her to grab.
"That's more like it." Adela flashed Jill an obnoxious smile, Jill letting out a frustrated growl. Adela wasn't usually this irritating but since she and Jill weren't on good terms, she decided to get under her skin a little bit. Especially with that way skill lashed out on her earlier. What?! Adela was petty and she wanted Jill to see that.
Adela walked over to Richard, kneeling down beside him with the serum in hand. Richard groaned a bit, looking up at Adela through heavy eyes. He was still a bit groggy and couldn't see as much, hopefully they didn't wait too long to give him the serum.
"J-Jill?" He stuttered, Adela looking at the serum uncomfortably. It was so weird to see the man she mercilessly picked on, on the verge of death. It kind of struck some sort of reality into her. Half of her teammates were missing or dead. If they hadn't gotten this serum for Richard, he'd probably be dead too.
"No, it's Adela." Adela responded quietly, unscrewing the cap. "I have your serum, you're gonna be okay." She cooed, Richard nodding weakly.
"Wait, Adela? I thought you—."
"I do but that doesn't mean I want you to die." Adela placed the syringe into the serum, injecting it into the man's side. Jill watched, not being able to stop admiring her. Yes Adela was getting on her last nerve, but she just couldn't help but love this side of her. Just her soft voice made her heart flutter, really enjoying this caring side to Adela. The way they used to be before she fucked everything up.
"Thank you both.." He whispered. "You know Adela? I-I owe you one." And with that Richard went unconscious, most likely resting from the amount of pain he had endured. Adela screwed the cap back onto the serum, placing both the syringe and bottle next to Richard. Adela stared at the sleeping man for a minute before getting up from the floor.
"Can we get out of here? I don't want to see him like this." Adela shut her eyes, looking away from the now sleeping man. Just watching as he laid there in serious pain hurt her. If they didn't get this vaccine, he'd be seriously dead.
Jill stood quiet for moment before letting out a hum in response. "Okay. We can do that." She whispered, glancing at the frozen woman. Hesitating quite a bit, Jill reached out to grab Adela's hand. Jill grabbed it, Adela tensing up quite a bit at Jill's touch. She hated the fact that Jill still made her stomach do various back flips from just one touch. It drove her insane yet she craved more.
"I-is it okay if I grab your hand?" Jill questioned, making sure she spoke soft enough to not wake up Richard.
Adela stood quiet for a minute before moving her hand away. "You have that key, right?" Adela mumbled, Jill taken aback a bit. She knew Adela was angry at her but she thought she would've been over it by now. Guess not.
"Yeah.. I do." Jill muttered, immediately reaching into one of her hip pouches. Jill handed Adela the key, Adela retrieving it. Adela placed the key into the keyhole, turning it until it unlocked.
"Here." She handed Jill the key, Jill putting it away. Jill took her gun out, standing behind her. Adela took her gun out as well, reaching towards the doorknob to turn it.
"Wait." Jill held her hand out, halting Adela's movements. "I'll do it." She said, Adela shaking her head.
"No way. What if—."
"I'm doing it." Jill interrupted. Adela stared at the woman for a bit before stepping out of the way for her to pass through.
"Go right ahead." She held her arms out mockingly. Jill shot her a sarcastic smile before standing in front of her. Jill opened the door slowly, both women entering with the room with their guard up. There seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. Just a dirty attic with cobwebs surrounding it.
"Why are we in here again?" Jill inquired, raising an eyebrow at the other woman.
"Isn't that one key in here?" Adela let her guard down, scratching her arm. "I thought it was here..." She trailed off, feeling embarrassed with herself.
"Did you even try reading the map correctly?" Jill sassed, Adela rolling her eyes at Jill's question.
"Did you even try reading the map correctly?" She mocked. "Yes, I did. You know what, if you're so much better than me why don't you just take the damn map too?" Adela took the map out of her pocket, throwing it right at her partner.
"You're such a baby. It wasn't that serious." Jill huffed, kneeling down to grab the map. Before Adela could say anything, a gigantic snake slithers out from a hole at the rear end of the room.
"Jill..." Adela let out quietly in a shaky voice.
"What? Are you gonna throw another tantrum?" She scoffed, Adela's throat tightening at the sight in front of her. The scaly animal stared at the two with it's huge yellow eyes. The sight was almost so surreal, Adela was sure she was dreaming.
"Jill, get up slowly right now or we're going to be coming out of that snake's ass!" She whispered aggressively. Jill furrowed her eyebrows, putting the map into her pocket.
Jill got up, a bit confused by Adela's words. "Snake? What are you—?" Jill tensed up, turning around to see the large snake eyeing them as if they were his prey; which in fact, they now were.
"What the fuck do we do? If we shoot it, we're dead meat." Adela whispered, gripping onto her gun.
"I-I don't know.." Jill responded quietly. Jill scanned the room, looking at the death mask on one of the tables. "It looks like we might have to fight. The death mask is in here." She muttered, Adela's eyes widening at the sentence.
"Are you insane? This snake's like ten feet tall and we're—." Before Adela could finish her sentence, the door busted open. The two women snap their heads towards the sudden noise, only to see Richard there with a shotgun nuzzled in his arms.
"Payback time!" Richard fired at the snake, the creature letting out a loud screeching noise.
Adela turned her head towards Jill, giving her the go ahead nod. The two take their guns out, shooting at the large snake. The fight felt like hours, Adela ready to just give up. Whilst the trio fought Adela stopped and ran towards the mask, shoving it into her many hip pouches.
Jill shoots her last shot at the snake, only for the snake to fall to the floor in defeat. Adela made her way towards the two, giving them both a weak smile.
"I got the mask." She huffed, Jill giving Adela a small smile in response. Adela stood quiet for a minute before clearing her throat.
"I'm glad you're feeling better, Richard." She mumbled, Richard giving her a nod.
"I'm glad you didn't leave me to die." Richard said. "Considering—."
"Can we just pretend I never got mad at you for that? I just feel stupid about it." Adela crossed her arms, Richard nodding at her words.
"Don't worry. I don't hold grudges." He teased, Adela playfully rolling her eyes.
"Again, thank you Richard. For everything." Jill spoke up, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"We should get—." There was a loud hissing noise. "Shit! It's alive!" Adela exclaimed.
"Watch out!" Richard pushed the two women out of the way from the lunging snake. Adela and Jill are saved, but Richard gets eaten whole. Eerily enough, they could still hear his screams from inside the snake's stomach.
"Richard!" Jill cried out, Adela feeling sick at the sight of her teammate's death.
"There's no time, we got to go!" Adela grabbed Jill's wrist, rushing out of the room. The two ran out of the room and out of the section of the mansion, Jill collapsing on the floor after they had ran.
"Richard.." Jill placed a hand onto her mouth, letting out small sobs. Adela tensed up, looking down at Jill. The only time she saw her cry was at her apartment last night, however, this time was different. It almost scared Adela to see Jill this hurt. If there was one thing Jill was good at, it was hiding her emotions. However, she had been very emotional lately. From trying to figure out who she was, to Adela moving out of Raccoon City, and from the death of all her friends... she wasn't sure how much she was able to take.
Adela hesitantly sat on her knees in front of the weeping S.T.A.R.S. member, watching at her tears hit the ground below her. "Jill... I know I'm the last person to talk about Richard but I know how you're feeling." She spoke softly, Jill looking up at her with red, puffy eyes.
"Do you, Adela? Do you really understand how I feel right now?!" Jill shouted. "You treated Richard like shit over a fucking pencil, you don't get to understand how I feel! Hell, you shit on people for no apparent reason and expect them to like you at the end of the day. But the moral of the story is that you're an insensitive bitch who wants everything handed to her! This isn't high school, Adela! This is the real world and being a mean girl isn't going to do anything for you." Jill fired, Adela looking at her with utter disbelief on her face.
"I'm sorry? I'm the mean girl for being honest?" Adela scoffed, shaking her head. The woman stood up from the floor with anger written on her face. "I'm not obligated to like everyone you like. You know what? Since you want to talk about all the problems you have with me, let's talk about all the problems I have with you." She started.
"For starters, Ms Jill Valentine can do no wrong. You're a fucking princess that never fails at anything and when you do, people make so many damn excuses for you. Oh and let's not forget the fact that you and Chris are the golden duo of the group, always getting the attention. I may be a bitch but I know my faults, yet you act like you're little miss perfect. You know what, Jill? You're not! Because if you were so perfect you wouldn't have so much emotional baggage and your father wouldn't be in prison!" Adela shot back, Jill being taken aback by Adela's words.
"Alright. I see how it is." Jill nodded, pursing her lips. Jill stood up from the floor, standing face to face with Adela.
"After this, I never want to see you ever again." Jill spoke through gritted teeth, Adela nodding at her words.
"Good, I really don't need you in my life. I was doing better without you anyways." Adela was just digging herself into a deeper hole and honestly, she didn't care. If Jill didn't freak out on her like that, she wouldn't have freaked out on her.
"I was feeling the same way." Jill shoved past Adela, making towards the back door of the mansion. Adela narrowed her eyes. feeling her heart fall to her stomach.
'God, what have I done?'
