IT seemed to be a common occurrence amongst the two women at this point. They'd fight, give each other the silent treatment and then somewhat forgive each other afterwards. This wasn't the case, this time. Adela had really fucked up and the two haven't even let out a peep in the past two hours. It was all too silent, the kind that wasn't comforting but awkward.
Adela couldn't help but replay that encounter she and Jill had from earlier, grimacing at her words. Adela was often seen as a cold hearted bitch, who'd say anything in order to win an argument. Did she win the argument? At least, she thought so. But at what cost? Her best friend absolutely hated her guts right now and she couldn't blame her. She did take it a tad too far. Jill just needed time to cool off. A whole eternity after the comment she made, to be honest.
As Adela and Jill made their way into the back of the courtyard, Adela cleared her throat. "Uh Jill, I wanted to-."
"Don't." Jill growled, Adela immediately shutting her mouth in the process. Though she'd usually respond back, she didn't want to get Jill even more angry than she already was. The two walked for a while, making their way past the cemetery and into a small wooden cabin.
"Someone's staying here." Jill mumbled, as she made her way towards the newly lit fire. Adela examined the room, spotting the crank they were supposed to retrieve.
"Hey, um... I found the crank." Adela muttered, putting it away into one of her magical hip pouches. Jill just nodded, heading towards the door. Adela shook her head, reaching over to grab Jill's wrist. Once she grabbed it, Jill tensed up; growing tense at the sudden touch.
"Jill, can we talk? Please?" Adela begged, Jill keeping her stare away from her. Why should she forgive her? Adela knew that bringing up her father was a sensitive topic, yet she used it against her. That to Jill, crossed the line.
"There's nothing to talk about, Adela. You clearly said what you said." Jill spat, Adela nodding at Jill's words.
"I know. I fucked up and I know the whole situation with your father is... difficult to say the least." Adela started. "But I truly didn't mean it. You know I just say things in order to win an argument." She explained, Jill growing more angry by the minute. Was this supposed to be an apology? Because it wasn't a good one.
"Am I supposed to just forgive you over that shitty apology?" Jill scoffed, Adela crossing her arms with a saddened look on her face.
"It wasn't meant to be a shitty apology. I'm trying to show you that I'm sincere!" Adela argued feeling a wave of frustration coarse through her body as she spoke. "Jill, I'm genuinely sorry. But God! You have to understand where I'm coming from!" She exclaimed, tears welling up ever so slightly.
"Adela, stop. Don't bring it up." Jill warned, feeling her heart pound as Adela got closer to her.
"I'm crazy about you Jill. And when you kissed me, I-I felt the same energy coming from you." Adela started, her voice wobbling a bit. "I don't want to lose you, Jill. I'm so sorry. I care about you too much to lose you. I shouldn't have said what I said but-." Adela was interrupted by the sound of a creaky door opening. Both women snap their heads at the sound, only to see a grotesque, hunchbacked monster with chains on both of it's hands. There were tentacles sprouting from it's body, looking like little worms as they squirmed in it's place. The monster had a tattered dress, showcasing her ribs through the rip. On it's face were many of it's victim's over it's red, decayed face.
The two women gave each other worried glances before taking their gun out. "What the fuck do we do?" Adela questioned, shaking a bit at the terrifying sight in front of her.
Jill stood quiet for a minute before scanning her surroundings. If they could lure the monster out of the way, they could slip through and run out.
"I have an idea." Jill mumbled, pulling the trigger. There was a loud gun shot, the monster screeching in pain.
"Why did you—"
"Run, now!" Jill latched onto Adela's arm, dragging her along as they ran out of the cabin. The two women ran back into the mansion, closing the back door behind them as they tried to regain their breath.
"How does this make any sense?! The monster's gonna come back. Why don't we go back and—."
"And what, Adela? Kill it?" Jill sassed. "Who's to say that thing can even be killed? We shouldn't go guns a blazing all the time." Jill scolded, Adela narrowing her eyes at the other woman.
""Well, clearly you did just that." Adela crossed her arms. "That monster's going to be on our ass now because you shot it. Didn't think about that, did you?" Adela spat, Jill shaking her head in frustration.
"I was trying to protect us! To keep us safe! You picking at every decision I make isn't helping!" Jill threw her arms up in frustration, Adela scoffing in disbelief.
"God, what happened to us?" Adela mumbled, Jill raising an eyebrow at her words. "We were the best of friends not even a day ago... Now it's like we're strangers." She whispered that last word, her heart breaking at the thought. Strangers. That was something to unfamiliar to the two, yet so real for them at the moment.
"Adela..."
"No. Forget it." Adela let out a heavy sigh. "Thank you for everything. But after this? I don't want to see you anymore." She admitted, Jill taken aback by her words.
'If I hadn't freaked out earlier... things wouldn't be this way. You made your bed, Jill. Now lie in it.' Jill stood quiet for a few minutes before nodding in agreement.
"Obviously, nothing's going to be fixed. We're just not good for each other." Jill agreed, nodding her head.
"Yeah... obviously." Adela whispered, looking down at the floor below her. The one thing they finally agreed on, hurt the two bad. They didn't want to lose each other, but what was the point when they just weren't going to work out from the jump?
There was an dead silence between the two, both women refusing to say another word. "Let's get moving." Jill muttered, Adela staying silent in the process.
'Just focus on surviving, Adela. Just focus on that.'
The two spent another hour scavenging through various rooms, whilst now running away from the crimson heads that chased after the two. Once the two were away, they turned into another hallway only to hear muffled sounds coming from one of the rooms they passed by.
"What's that—."
"Shh." Adela shushed, Jill shooting a glare at the woman; still shutting her mouth in the process.
"No, that wasn't part of our deal." Adela furrowed her eyebrows at the voice, both her and Jill snapping their heads at each other.
'Barry? Who is he talking to? And what deal?' Adela thought, keeping all of her attention towards the conversation.
"Like I said, I have my orders." Jill's eyes widened at the voice, growing pale. Wesker? Orders? Wesker was their captain, he didn't take orders. Something fishy was going on and Jill didn't like it.
"But it's not necessary to destroy S.T.A.R.S.!" Barry exclaimed, Adela letting out a soft gasp. Wesker wanted to destroy S.T.A.R.S.? She knew there was something about Wesker, and now she actually had a reason to hate him. She was never fond of being on the team but she never wanted things to turn out like this. Why the fuck did they trust a man who wore sunglasses indoors anyways?
"Don't be a hard dog to keep under the porch, Barry..." Wesker trailed off, Adela rolling her eyes in annoyance.
'Who says things like that? What the hell does this even mean anyways?'
"What about my family?" Barry questioned.
"I will guarantee their safety." Wesker responded, Jill clenched her jaw. How dare he use his family like that in order to destroy his own team! What even was Wesker's game anyways?
Barry let out a heavy sigh before continuing. "If I play my cards right..."
"That's it. I'm going in." Jill whipped her gun out, standing directly in front of the door. "You coming?"
Adela stood quiet for a moment before taking her gun out as well. The two of them together could stop Wesker. Hopefully, he wasn't too far into his plan.
"Let's go."
