Part 4: Prologue

Dreams are always confusing and sometimes, tainted with darkness. When one sleeps, dreams are formed from the deepest corners of their mind.

However, some are of a long forgotten memory...

"Wait for me!"

"You have to catch me first!"

The conversation was between a young boy and a girl, chasing each other in a simple game of catch. Bewildered, I watched the children play.

"Helm... wait for me," the girl said in between gasps of breath.

The boy named Helm laughed playfully, but stopped for her. "You will never be a warrior if you keep getting tired during a little run."

"100 blocks is not a little run," the girl huffed, sounding annoyed.

"Whatever." The boy was smiling.

The scene faded away, replaced by another. I blinked. The girl reminds me a lot of myself...

The second scene was of Helm and the girl again, but they were much older. Helm was carrying a wooden axe while the girl wielded a wooden sword.

"First one who gets hit loses, sound good?" Helm suggested, lifting his axe up.

The girl nodded silently, her eyes becoming serious and more focused.

The spar started with Helm attacking first. Despite the axe being heavier than the sword, his movements were fast.

Helm's axe collided with the girl's sword, and it became clear who was physically stronger.

The girl leaped backwards, readying herself for Helm's next attack instead of attacking.

Cautious... always studying her opponent's moves before making a decision...

Helm attacked again. Instead of blocking, the girl opted for dodging. She swung her sword and it missed Helm by a centimetre. Her eyes widened in surprise as she realised that her failed attack left her wide open.

Helm gently poked her with his axe, his smile carrying hints of a smirk. "I win."

"Congrats," the girl said with a sigh. "You are pretty good with an axe."

"I practice a lot," Helm admitted. "I'm hoping to inherit my family's treasure, an awesome diamond axe! Dad said that I would get it if I'm good enough."

A diamond axe?

"You seem very good already," she commented. "Unless... I'm just too weak."

"Don't say that! You will get stronger, and I believe in you-"

My dream was cut off and I jolted awake, my head feeling like it was about to explode. What a weird dream...

Suddenly, I noticed someone by my bed, looking at me. I recognised that person. "It's... you."

The mage acknowledged my words with a small nod. He seemed rather sad, for some reason.

"I... never really got the chance to thank you for helping me."

"There's no need for thanks."

He sighed. "I wish I could tell you, but it was never my place to tell. Be careful, for darkness will never sleep."

The mage disappeared, leaving me in a state of confusion.
