Part 3: Chapter 2 - Blaze
I spent some time idling in my house, deep in thought. Mintues flew past like seconds.
I decided to do something more productive. I opened the double chest beside my bed and took out an iron hoe.
The space at the back of my house was my own little garden. I mostly grew potatoes, and sometimes, I sell a couple of potatoes to Dusty, a potato loving villager.
The potatoes had already ripened. I lifted up my hoe and harvested all the fully grown potato plants.
With 30 potatoes in my inventory, I headed to the market, where Dusty's stall was. As I walked, I thought I smelled smoke.
I brushed my thoughts off and carried on. When Dusty saw me, he waved with a goofy smile.
Without a word, I tossed him my potatoes and he threw two emeralds towards me in return.
I caught the emeralds and headed back to my house. On the way back, I passed by the library.
I remembered the prophecy and decided to talk to Swoop about it. I opened the library doors slowly and entered.
Swoop was sitting at his table as usual, writing something with an ancient-looking feathered pen.
"What is it?" he asked me, without looking up.
Hesitantly, I told him about the prophecy I received that morning. Swoop stopped writing and stood up, gesturing for me to follow.
He led me to a more secluded spot and signaled for me to take a sit. I sat down, feeling nervous.
"Do you know what it means?" I asked.
"Well..." Swoop began. "It is obvious that someone part of the prophecy will defeat whatever threat comes next. You have to find this person and tell them the prophecy."
"I don't even know where to start," I said. "How can I find this person?"
"You will have to figure that out on your own," Swoop sighed. "It was given to you for a reason."
For a reason... those words echoed in my head.
"Good luck," Swoop said, looking rather tired and downcast. "Remember the past, but live in the present."
I nodded hesitantly, wondering why he said those words. I left the library as confused as ever. I was getting nowhere.
Everyone looked annoyed at something. The stalls were in a mess and the fruits on sale were mashed into juice.
Before I asked what was going on, a villager holding a trampled melon started ranting.
"Those stupid bunnies!" he exclaimed. "Trampled my precious melons with their annoying tiny feet!"
"They broke my glass bottles!" someone wearing a wizard hat complained.
"Do you know what is going on?" someone else asked. I stared blankly at the scene until I realised that the person was speaking to me.
I gulped when everyone looked at me expectantly. "I-I don't know," I said, stammering a little. I calmed down and posed another question. "Where did the bunnies come from?"
"They came from that direction," the melon villager said, still sounding irritated.
"I will check it out," I said. "Meanwhile you could try fixing up your stalls."
I quickly left the complaining crowd and towards the direction the villager pointed to.
The smell of smoke was getting stronger. As I walked, the smell became stronger and stronger.
The stalls I walked past were abandoned - oddly. There must be a fire somewhere, I thought. I am getting close.
Suddenly, I heard a scream. I sped up and I saw a medium sized house burning. Some of the people nearby were throwing buckets of water while others were frozen in shock.
I took out an iron axe and rushed in front of the burning house. "Break the wood blocks to stop the fire from spreading!" I commanded, rising my axe.
Some followed suit and soon everyone was helping - moral support included. I was sweat from the heat generated from the fire and my hands were sweating from heat and my anxiety.
Luckily, the fire was becoming smaller. The last of the flames sizzled as the water put it out. Everyone sighed in relief. The house was damaged, but it could be repaired.
There was a cry. Someone had ran inside what was left of the house and started crying at the sight of two motionless bodies.
I stared at the scene as the people murmured their condolences. More people had fallen.
