Chapter 41// Glowing Eyes and Hopefully No Spies

"One weirdo down, and one more to fix." George said, lightly punching Sapnap in the arm. Sapnap smiled and nodded. They were going to cure Dream and bring everything back to normal. Maybe save the world along the way too, if they felt like it.

"WHAT THE HECK SAPNAP YOU HAVE FIRE POWERS?!" Ant yelled, running out and gesturing wildly at Sapnap with an in-awe smile.

"WHY DID YOU NEVER TELL US YOU MUFFIN!?" Bad also yelled too, running out with a smile.

"Uhm- it's sorta new, I dunno why it happens."

"Well it's freaking awesome!" Skeppy shouted, coming outside a little more slowly than the others.

Sapnap immediately felt comforted near his smiling friends.

"Uhm sorry to interrupt," Techno started a little awkwardly. Social interactions weren't his strong suit. "But we still have the void demon issue to take care of."

Fundy shot a glare at Techno, "Don't say it outloud in the open!" He hissed.

Techno rolled his eyes and Philza chuckled, but still looked around to make sure no one was in hearing distance. Luckily for them, this area of the hub was pretty much empty today. Sapnap and the others were walking a few steps closer to the cafe now that Sapnap had calmed down and fire wasn't an issue. George still kept hold of the fire extinguisher; Better safe than sorry.

"Well what do we have to discuss?" Ant asked. "According to the files, the symptoms were twitching and flickering glowing eyes, and no one's shown anything like that the whole meeting." He reasoned. Some people nodded and agreed while others didn't look so sure. It was still an uneasy topic. Tubbo had stopped the search for more files to watch the spectacle of fire, but now spoke up about it.

"Well," Tubbo said a little quietly, and everyone went quiet so they could hear him. "You said you couldn't tell that Eret's eyes could be flickering because they normally glow." Tubbo said. Fundy nodded to agree this was true. "Badboyhalo's eyes also normally glow, what if we just didn't notice if they were flickering."

Everyone immediately turned to look at Bad. He was standing in the shade of the umbrellas at the tables of the outside chairs. He instickingly stepped back when all eyes were on him.

"W-what?" He asked with a chuckle, a little scared. He wasn't possessed, he couldn't be. He didn't know how one got possessed, but he surely would've noticed it if he had. But their stares cut deep and almost made him question himself.

"Bad's not possessed! Are you guys crazy!" Skeppy defended.

Everyones started to mumble and step out of the cafe a little more instinctively.

"If his eyes already glow, is there any way to prove it?"

"If he is possessed, then he just heard all of the information!"

"How can we tell?"

"I- I could use magic and show I don't twitch?" Bad offered to try to prove his innocence. He quickly grabbed a diamond encrusted dagger from the void and showed it off like a prize from an auction.

"Look! Done, no twitching or floating or anything!" He exclaimed. Everyone murmured.

"What if you shifted to human?" George offered, "Your eyes don't glow then, so we could clearly see if they flicker or not."

"Uhm-"

That was a less comfortable idea.

Everyone nodded to agree this was a good solution. Bad shifted from foot to foot nervously and tucked down into his hood. Skeppy looked up at Bad and squinted, almost like he didn't recognise him.

Skeppy was second guessing himself now. "No, I don't believe that Bad is possessed. But then again-.. He left the hospital during the night and never explained it-. No shut up thoughts! You have no idea what you're saying, Bad is my best friend, and he's fine." Skeppy told himself in his head. "Talking to myself again! I'm going crazy." He shook his head and focused his attention back onto the conversation.

"Bad, just shift to a human and you'll be in the clear." Sapnap urged. It was a simple plan, shift, no glowing eyes, everything's fine! Sapnap had just shifted himself, and he felt way better with all of his bottled up emotions released, so clearly this sounded like a great idea to him.

"He doesn't get it! He hardly changes when he shifts." Bad thought to himself.

"But I haven't even been around Dream since we dropped him off! And I feel totally fine!" Bad said, grabbing some more stuff out of the void to prove it. A few throwing knives clattered to the ground along with a shield painted in black and red.

More people were starting to step outside. It wasn't comfortable to cram in the doorway and they couldn't hear or see much from inside. Skeppy took a step back from Bad and looked him in the eyes.

"Then where did you go out last night?" Skeppy asked.

Bad was taken back. Skeppy didn't trust him? "Wait how did he know-" His thoughts were cut short from his heartbeat speeding up.

"What do you mean? I was sleeping after Sapnap trapped me in that stupid room." Bad said, avoiding the question and trying to distract Sapnap. Skeppy was the only one that knew Bad had left sometime during the night, and no one seemed to catch on that quickly.

"Well I trapped you "in that stupid room" because you needed sleep!" Sapnap yelled. Bad's distraction had worked. Fire danced in Sapnaps eyes, and he took a breath to force himself to calm down. Maybe Bad should've chosen someone else to anger to distract them all. Too late now!

"No, I didn't!" Bad continued. He was trying to get a rise out of Sapnap, letting him forget what he was saying.

"You HAD SHIFTED-" Sapnap paused to count the times on his fingers, and George rolled his eyes behind his clout goggles. Sapnap actually didn't know how much, and Antfrost took over.

"Twice on Earth without rest, plus you took out most of the weapons we used in the fight from the void, and then you shadow traveled as fast as you could for 2 mintues straight without rest, then at the Earth gate you shifted to a 9 foot tall demon to beat Dream, and carry Skeppy for a 40 minute walk, and not to mention the intense multiple fights with Dream, and two full days without any sleep. It was too much for one person. I agree with Sapnap, you needed that rest. Forced or not." Antfrost said. Most of the group was surprised that Bad did all of that and still had to be forced to take a break. There was some mumbling among the crowd.

"I. Was. Fine." Bad said sternly.

Skeppy's eyes went wide hearing how much Bad had done, and yet he still carried Skeppy to the hospital. He was the first to realize Bad was using the argument as a distraction.

"Bad?" Skeppy started, interrupting their argument. "Just shift to a human, so we know it's the real you." He said carefully and slowly. All eyes were on Bad and he started to step backwards.

Too many people here. Too many people watching. Bad's fight or flight response kicked in and he bolted. He knew he shouldn't have, it only made him suspicious, but it was too late now. Everyone started to chase him at once, so Badboyhalo jumped into the nearest shadow of the next umbrella and hugged the shadows on the wall.

"BAD!" Skeppy yelled trying to speed walk after him before his side hurt and he winced in pain. Puffy rushed over to Skeppy to make sure he was ok and nothing serious happened.

Everyone gasped and tried to figure out what to do. Velvet was the first to act.

Velvet yelled at Antfrost "I choose you Antfrost!"

"What?"

"Just go catch Bad!"

"Oh- right." Antfrost shifted to a cat and started to sprint after Bad, while everyone else slowed down immediately knowing they couldn't catch up.

"If he's possessed, why did he help us at the cave fight?" Techno asked. Something seemed off about the situation. Philza nodded, also confused.

"And the hub fight too?" Niki mentioned. "He carried Skeppy to the hospital for well over half an hour. He could've easily sided with Dream and taken down all of us there."

"Maybe it was recent?" Fundy offered. The image of Eret chasing after him flashed through his mind and he immediately felt more suspicious. "They sure were." He mumbled.

Tubbo felt slightly guilty he had caused Bad to freak out and run, but if he ran, did that mean Bad really was possessed? Why else would he run? Tubbo walked back inside and went back to searching for more files. He had had more before Eret destroyed his computer, but these other files seemed to be behind more security layers hidden than the first one he had pulled up a few minutes ago.

"That's weird." Tubbo thought to himself, "Why are all of these ones so much harder?" but just shrugged it off and continued.

Ant followed the moving shadow as quickly as he could, yelling his name and trying to get him to stop or at least slow down.

Behind the next nearest building, the shadow stopped and just sat there sadly in the darkness. A little shadow blob of sadness.

"Bad! What's wrong? Why won't you shift?" Antfrost asked when he had caught up. Badboyhalo sighed and slipped out of the shadow, leaning against the wall. He wrapped his arms around his legs and hugged himself, dropping his head down and leaning it on his knees.

"Are you-" Ant was hesitant to ask, "-....actually possessed? We can help you if you are! It'll be okay." Antfrost shifted back to a cat man when he saw Bad wasn't running any more. Both of them were pretty tired from all the shifting and running they'd done that day. One race after another.

"I'm not possessed." Bad said, keeping his glowing eyes closed. "I'm just- afraid.."

"Hmmm? Of what?" Ant asked, sitting down next to Bad. That was not the answer he had expected.

"Of shifting to human in front of everyone. You and Sapnap look fine as humans, pretty similar to you normally, but me? I look completely different and like- what if they don't wanna be friends anymore?" Bad had opened his eyes a little.

"That's what you're worried about?" Ant asked with a slight laugh. It wasn't that comforting as Ant tried to make it. Bad glanced away.

"Sorry,- what I mean is, no one will judge you, ok? I was here worrying about Dream and you getting possessed while we have no cure, and everyone else is too. Nobody will care if you don't look like what they expect. Skeppy's probably the most worried Bad, you gotta go back there for him."

"But what will Skeppy think of me?! I can't even see normally as a human while he can pretty much take down a mad man and survive an axe to the side without using any magic!"

"Glasses are normal Bad. I wear them too and it doesn't make me any less of a person. And Skeppy did use magic! Health and regeneration potions to heal and Velvet told me he used swiftness to land a hit on Dream's head! He's not perfect, and neither are you, and that's ok!"

Bad started to look a little more convinced, but not exactly ready to go back either.

"Bad," Ant started, looking Bad in the eyes, "Just shift right now, walk back with me, and then we can all relax ok? If this void demon thing is contagious, we all have to work together. No matter how much we trust the new people or not. "

Bad lifted his head up and whispered an "Ok."

Antfrost helped him up and nodded.

Bad put a hand on the wall to stabilize himself as he shifted. Brown hair fell in front of his face and the blurry hands below were pale now.

He didn't realise how tired he was, and without adrenaline and fear to fuel him, it was starting to take a toll on him more quickly than it had before.

He sighed and rubbed his stupid human eyes that couldn't even see straight, while his other hand flicked out the glasses he bought, into his hand from the void.

With hesitation, he put them on to see better. Antfrost quickly stood up and looked at his eyes to make sure they weren't glowing, and let out a relieved sigh. Bad shook his head and pushed himself away from the wall.

Bad kept his hood over his head as he walked back with Antfrost, keeping his eyes glued to the ground. He had used more energy to grab gloves to hide his hands at least, and Antfrost light scolded him. The late night walk was catching up to him now.

"You can still run! Just shift back and jump into the shadow over there, and Ant won't be able to catch you!" He ignored his thoughts and forced his feet to continue walking.

Skeppy noticed Bad and Ant walking back, and called the others to get their attention. No one had really gone inside because they knew they would have to run out to get Bad themselves if Ant didn't come back or came back without Bad, so it was a relief to them when they saw two figures walking back. Antfrost was now a cat man again instead of a normal cat, and Bad looked a little different too.

For one, he had no demon horns or tail, and his figure was smaller, hunched over a little to avoid their gazes. His head was down with his hoodie as far down as his face as he could get it, and his arms tightly across his chest. Everyone was waiting for them, and had their eyes on the two. Definitely not helping Bad's anxiety at the moment.

Bad lifted his head up slightly, and his glasses reflected the light, making it look like his eyes were glowing. Everyone froze in fear without a second's thought. Techno put his hand on his sheathed sword and everyone leaned forward, ready to attack if needed. Obviously to say they were all a little paranoid after seeing the void demon files and Bad running away for seemingly no reason.

"Eyes?" Sapnap asked.

Bad pulled off his hood and took off his glasses quickly to show his eyes were in fact not glowing. A few people let out a sigh of relief and let themselves relax. Techno slowly let go of his sword as it fell back into its place.

Bad had emerald green eyes and brown hair. He was wearing the same outfit, but it looked very different next to his pale skin and with no horns or tail. Skeppy was slightly staring.

"Green eyes?" Skeppy thought to himself.

"You have to use magic to prove it." Sapnap said. He was a little mad that Bad used his short temper to try to avoid the topic before, and still felt a tiny bit scared that another one of his friends was going to go insane.

Bad kept his eyes open as he grabbed a bunch of things out of the void into his hand. More knives, lockpick kit, an axe, a sweater, another throwing knife, a gun, a bow and quiver full of arrows, a bag of chips, a muffin, and last but least, another knife.

"Woah, that's a lot of stuff." Skeppy said, looking at the pile on the ground. "He has a gun?!" He would have to ask about it later.

"Ok Bad, you're clear." Sapnap said. Bad sighed, pretty tired, and shifted back to normal. He caught Skeppy staring at him again, and glanced away quickly. Skeppy felt embarrassed for staring and tried to play it off as looking behind Bad.

"We should head back inside to figure out what we should do." Fundy said, looking around outside again. He seemed sort of paranoid that someone could be listening. Niki, Wilbur, and Puffy nodded and followed him back inside. Techno and Philza just glanced at each before heading back inside too, taking a-quick-nother look at the others.

Bad quickly grabbed all of his stuff on the ground and threw it back into his pocket of the void, trying to shake off all the tiredness of using so much magic. Maybe he shouldn't have pulled out so much stuff. He was a bit dizzy and his body swayed as he tried to walk forwards in a straight line.

"Bad take it easy, you've already used a bunch of magic today." Ant said quietly. Bad just nodded without saying a word.

Skeppy was careful to walk inside slowly. His side didn't feel great from lunging forward before, and he didn't want to put any more stress on it. His mind was more focused on other things anyway. "Bad looked so... different than what I expected? But not in a bad way or anything. It's just interesting I guess. At least he isn't possessed... not that he ever would be of course-... yeah I'm going insane, talking to myself yet again!"

Skeppy snapped back into focus to listen to what Fundy was saying after he sat back down.

"Ok so we're all clear, now what?"

There were two weirdos down now, hopefully it really was only one more to go. This meeting was going to take all day at this rate.
