Zane X Kawaii~Chan

The Oneshot Where I Couldn't Think Of A Title

Whisperes fluttered around the restaurant, the sound of hushed gossip passing from lips to lips as multiple pairs of eyes lingered on a girl with vibrant pink hair. No, not a vibrant pink, more of a bubble-gum pink to match her usually-positive personality.

Key word? Usually.

Kawaii~Chan sat with her hands balled into fists in her lap. She stared at her phone with tears prickling in her eyes, her yellow orbs darting around the room to catch any curious glances from random onlookers. She bit her lip to keep a sob from escaping, biting so hard she could taste the metallic flavor of blood flow into her mouth.

Kawaii~Chan's hands hovered over her messages, contemplating how to respond to her boyfriend's texts. She's been sitting in the restaurant for a good 35 minutes, nervously texting Dante and waiting for him to get to the resturant with no response other than "traffic. may be late", which had been send nearly half an hour ago.

She didn't want to believe that maybe, just maybe, Dante had stood her up.

The waitress walked over, pity hidden under her fake smile. "Ma'am, are you sure the rest of the party is coming?"

Hearing those words made the girl cringe internally. "Kawaii~Chan is sure. Just maybe wait a little longer?" Kawaii~Chan pleaded. The waitress bit her lip, smile fading away.

"Ma'am, if he doesn't arrive within the next ten minutes we will have to have you leave. I kno—"

"Hey babe, sorry I'm late! God, traffic is insane."

Kawaii~Chan's eyes became hopeful for a split second as she watched a form slide into the chair across from her, however it quickly became confusion as she realized the person in front of her wasn't her boyfriend. Instead, a skinny, blue-eyed man sat grinning at her, wearing a black and grey striped hoodie and black jeans. His black hair swept over one eye, completely concealing it. Was he...wearing eyeliner?

The waitress looked between the two customers, clearly confused how such a cheerful and bright-looking girl could be with someone so emo. She quickly shrugged it off, her priorities resting within a paycheck rather than the relationship of a cat and her boyfriend, and faced the couple.

"I'll give you both some time to look over the menu if you haven't already." She said, eyeing Kawaii~Chan before walking off to another table.

As soon as the waitress was out of earshot, Kawaii~Chan crossed her arms over her chest and arched an eyebrow at the stranger across from her. "What was that about?"

"My name is Zane, just go along with it. Whoever didn't bother to come is a jerk." He replied, leaning over the table and whispering. "You look like you need cheering up, and that's what I'm here for."

"Okay." Kawaii~Chan replied slowly. "If you don't mind, Kawaii~Chan likes to talk in third person."

"You're name is Kawaii~Chan? Doesn't that mean cute in Japanese?" Zane cocked his head to the side, not caring about the way she spoke. Kawaii~Chan nodded, eyes becoming brighter with hope. This stranger—a random emo-looking person whom she'd known for less than five minutes—already cared enough to not judge the way she spoke or ask about her name. He was also probably one of the first.

Out of the corner of her eye, Kawaii~Chan noticed the waitress eyeing the table. Suddenly remembering they were in a restaurant on a "date", she spoke in a hushed tone, "Quick, pretend like Zane-Kun is ordering something."

Zane gave her a thumbs up before flipping the menu up right as the waitress strode by, sending Kawaii~Chan and quick smile. As soon as she's left, the two began trying to conceal they're laughter, giggling and chuckling as quiet as possible. How odd would it have been for anyone else to see these two strangers in this state knowing that, well, knowing that they had only just met. They seemed like they'd been friends for years, laughing so easily with each other.

One might even go as far as to suggest that they were soulmates.

"Kawaii~Chan can't believe Garroth-Kun would do that!" The Meif'wa laughed, smiling at the hand gestures Zane was making.

"Yeah, it's kind of embarrassing to say it out loud." Zane chuckled. "It's weird, my brothers typically see me as the youngest just because I'm 'sensitive'. I'm not sensitive, I just like the color black!"

The two were strolling through the city, wandering aimlessly in an attempt to find the Meif'wa's apartment. Normally, she would be opposed to having a person she'd only just met follow her home, but they'd stood outside the restaurant for nearly half an hour trying to grab a taxi driver's attention. And since, well, it was dangerous to have a woman walk home alone at night, Zane had offered to walk her.

"Kawaii~Chan doesn't have any siblings. In fact, she's never really had any family members." Kawaii~Chan bit her lip, suddenly getting quiet. The rushing sound of cars and honking of horns was enough to fill their awkward silence, and yet it wasn't.

"What's that like? If you don't mind me asking. I've always lived in a crowded home, with something always happening." Zane asked, bumping shoulders with her.

"Well...it's lonely. Especially if you lived like Kawaii~Chan, a Meif'wa. Zane-Kun would have to find his own way, his own money. And Meif'was were never paid as much as regular people. It was better in Japan, where Kawaii~Chan was born."

"There, she had family and friends to care for her. She can't remember much of the language though, but was the food  just amazing." Kawaii~Chan smiled fondly at the memory for a few moments, before becoming oddly monotone again. "And then, one day everyone just vanished from her life. A new city, with only her cousin and her twin to help her get along. They ended up nastier than Kawaii~Chan though."

The Meif'wa sighed. "And now, Kawaii~Chan is living here."

Zane nodded, acknowledging she didn't want to speak anymore. As if on cue, however, the couple rounded the corner and came across her apartment. It wasn't anything to marvel at, but it was certainly better than some of the other homes around the city. Kawaii~Chan turned to the brunet, eyes glowing once again. She bowed, holding her bag in front of her as she did so. "Arigato, Zane-Kun! Thank you for walking Kawaii~Chan home!"

Zane smiled in return. "Yep. Anytime."

They paused for a moment, avoid each other's gazes as the air became oddly awkward. Zane cleared his throat, causing Kawaii~Chan to divert her attention to him. He averted looking at her, rubbing his sweaty palms against his legs in nervousness.

"So um, Kawaii~Chan, would you maybe want to go on a proper date?"

At these words, a smile brighter than the sun grew onto the pink Meif'wa's face. She nodded excitedly, causing Zane to return the gesture. She pecked him on the cheek, causing a fired blush to spread across Zane's pale cheeks. Laughing at his reaction, Kawaii~Chan answered his lingering question.

"Yes!"

一一一
A/N Ah, nice and fluffy today. Tis has been awhile since I last wrote a oneshot XD.

I actually got the idea from a Pinterest post about Tumblr. If I'm honest, Tumblr is probably the best website for finding AU ideas or oneshot inspiration. Except don't go blindly wandering tumblr, just go find those posts on Pinterest. They've even got, like, Doujinshi ideas too XD. If you can't tell, I'm leaning towards a pocky-inspired oneshot I maybe perhaps possibly might do?

Maybe?

And until the next post, Malio out.

Also, I realize Dante doesn't know about this. But hey, I think we can all guess what (or who) he was doing while he stood up Kawaii~Chan. I'll let you decide how KC breaks the news or something :)
