Irene X Shad
[Headcanons for days]
Irene looked at her past lover, trying her hardest to feel something.
There was nothing.
She simply was empty.
Even in the face of malice or supposed malice, she just stood there even if she was in her human form. There was no confidence in her stance, just her conscience.
She knew Shad was on the side of wrong but, she wasn't on the right side either. There was no clear line between the two, she had learned. But, Shad was the destroyer, she was the builder. No room were left for the two ex-lovers anymore.
"Irene," the red demonic form had bellowed. None of Irene's fellow Divine Warriors had arrived so it was just the two of them, alone, knowing their final battle was dawning upon them. His red form seemed to dissipate, allowing him to grab a human form.
Irene's eyes watched him as he walked forward to her. His dark eyes matched her brown ones. The dark hair he had that made him look ever so mysterious swept upon his face. Shad walked in a certain way, projecting superiority and power. She stood still in the supposed excellence.
His hand went up to under her chin, pulling her face up to his with his thumb on her chin, gently stroking it. Her blue hood dropped down from her hair, allowing her face to be shown more and her dark locks to cascade more freely.
"Shad," she replied, still looking at those eyes that had caught her attention once before the loving spark in his eyes turned into madness. Irene knew he wasn't like this all the time. He turned into this, a monster, they had called him. But, she knew she was the monster, she was the one who felt nothing.
"Where's the rest of your sidekicks?" He inquired with the deep voice of his, twisted with madness.
"My friends," she corrected with no sign of anger whatsoever, "They were yours too."
"But they want to murder me, Irene. All for you. It's always been about you, hasn't it?"
His eyes seemed to narrow at her. They were full of anger for her which she never felt for him anymore. She had learned that if she could not have Shad as her lover then there would be no reason for her to feel anymore. Shad had made that clear for her.
Quickly, he pushed his lips against hers, dropping his hand from her chin to her waist from both of her arms. If it was out of pure frustration, Irene didn't know, she couldn't emphasize with him any longer. Irene slowly wrapped her arms around his neck like once before, almost as if in a futile attempt to feel something once more.
Nope.
They gradually separated from the kiss, almost as if they never wanted the moment to end. Shad kept his gaze upon the matron. She took her arms off of him, pushing him away. He let go of his grasp on her also. No words were said from her as the silence instilled upon them.
Shad seemed to smirk. "So it's true, you have lost sentience, Irene. I hope it wasn't from me, I'll be dead soon from your band of outcasts. Go back to them, they are probably looking for you. I need to turn back."
She took a breath, turning away from Shad. Irene's hands fiddled with her hood, placing it back over her head. Irene could feel the gust of wind from Shad's transformation. Her vision was bordered by a red. Walking out of the place she was at, she was met by Esmund, running at her at the door.
"IRENE!" Esmund hugged her body close to him, making her raise an eyebrow. He let go of her, staring at the place she was at. "We've been looking for you for hours! Menphia was raging. Enki...was well Enki. Kul'sak was the only calm one of the group. We were scared that Shad had taken you."
"I found him in here," Irene explained, "I was waiting for you guys to catch up."
"We kind of can't catch up, Irene, if we don't know where you are!" Esmund exclaimed, shaking his blonde hair everywhere which Irene found hilarious once upon a time.
Irene looked for an escape route, something to deter the conversation away from her. Seeing Menphia and Enki yelling at each other, Irene took this as a way out. "Look, there's Enki and Menphia."
The two of them watched as their two fellow Divine Warriors were came up to them, still bickering. Menphia's voice was the first one to be heard first, "Look, Enki, I don't have time for this! Flirt with Hyria or something, I don't know."
"But baby," Enki said in a smooth voice, "You're the only thing I want to see when I look up from my notes."
"I hope your descendants are never like you," Menphia snarled.
"They won't," Enki reasoned, making Menphia's face soften, "As long as you're part of their blood."
"WELL I OUGHTA--" Menphia reeled her fist back, making Enki wince. Esmund intercepted the punch before it reached Enki's face.
"Menphia, calm down," Esmund said, making Menphia pull her fist back from Esmund's hand with a hmph. Enki slowly stood back up, moving a bit away from Menphia. He smirked as he looked at Irene, placing his hand on his hip.
"Well, look who it is, the missing Divine Warrior of the day, Irene the Matron," Enki teased, making Irene scoff.
"It's nice to see you too, Enki," Irene turned her attention once more to Menphia, "Menphia, I'm sorry you had to deal with this miscreant for so long. But, I found Shad inside of here. I was just waiting for you guys."
"It's kind of hard too if you haven't told us where you are, Irene," Menphia snarkly retorted, "But, I'm happy we found you, we thought Shad had took you from us. We knew you guys had feelings for each other--"
"Menphia," Esmund scolded, giving her a cold stare.
"Esmund," Irene stopped her guard, "It's fine, Menphia. What's done is done. He's turned into something he isn't. Still, why did the three of you, Enki, Esmund, and Kul'sak who isn't even here, do this? We are supposed to be the pillars of peace, the peo--"
"Irene," Menphia interjected, "They had good intentions. Shad had turned into this Shadow Lord thing. He's not the person we knew. He took his power and he used it for evil. And you, you were deeply affected by it. They all wanted to help you."
"That's my girl," Enki placed in, earning a punch in the arm from Esmund.
Menphia rolled her eyes, placing a hand on Irene's shoulder. "Look, Irene, we care for you and we know you care for us, maybe not in the same way anymore but, Shad was the reason for this. He needs to pay."
It's always been about you, hasn't it?
Irene pushed that thought out of her mind. It would only be an echo that meant nothing to her. "I know, Menphia. But now, we need to unite to fix our mistake. Let's go."
Menphia took her hand off Irene's shoulder as the matron entered the place she was in before. She saw Shad once again, smiling at the gang, filled with malice. With her strength, she pushed away what had happened before, turning into her true form. Wings sprouted out from her back with her hands finding a sword which had not been there before, and she felt the feeling of light infiltrate her body once again.
The battle had begun against her past love.

A/N - Hi. I am Kat and I like headcanons so much. All of my past one shots have been headcanons so, here's another one. Another one. Another one. That's old, forgive me for not being as hip and cool. I just really wanted to make this after the season 2 finale. Originally, I was going to do an Aarmau one shot but considering that Irene and Shad are basically Aarmau, my imagination went from there. Anyways, I hoped you all enjoyed! Buh-bye!
~Kat
