Chapter 4

Keighan

One Week Earlier...

I walk through the prison, getting ready to leave this place. I would like to say being here for three years opened my eyes to what my family and I do more, but I had too much fun in here. Everyone wanted to be on my good side for when they are released. Hoping to work for the family. That they'll have a place to go once they're free.

Being the king here had its benefits. I got everyone to do my bidding, just as I always have outside these concrete walls. "Everything is ready for you." Connor, my insider here tells me. Making my devilish smile form on my lips.

See what landed me here, I hadn't done wrong, but I took the fall for my family. Just so happened that one of the men that was killed that night was the chief of police's son. Then on top of the shit sundae the new young judge was friends with all three of the families.

He wanted to make a name for himself back then. Since he was only starting out. What better way to do that then put the youngest son of the O'Reilly family behind bars? Of course, they thought I'd be here a lot longer than three years, but what can I say? Can't keep me down.

"Your loyalty will be remembered." I tell him honestly as he opens the last of the doors. He nods his head at me and looks away. I look out the door and see my father and uncle dressed in their impeccable suits, standing by a stretch limo. Shaking my head, I take my first step out into freedom for the past three years.

Making my way out into the sun I walk right up to pops and my uncle. Both stand there shaking their heads. I can't see their eyes behind the sunglasses they have on, but I know they're eyeing the leather jacket I have on over my plain white t-shirt. "What?" I ask with an eyebrow raised.

They both laugh and come to me. Wrapping me in a hug they tell me that it's about fucking time I'm out. Couldn't agree with them more. Our driver, Jimmy, nods his head at me as he opens the back door for us. We climb in, and I forgot how good leather felt below my hands.

"We have a lot to discuss." Pops begins. "I figured as much." Everyone has been keeping me well informed on the happenings going on out here while I was away, but I'm no idiot. I know there's a lot more they hadn't told me. Afraid I'd lose my shit on the inside.

Pouring myself a glass of scotch I look at my father. Telling him with my eyes to go on. "As you know, business is doing well. Bringing in a good few hundred thousand a month." I nod liking that number. I take a sip enjoying the burn as the liquid makes its way down my throat.

I've missed the taste of a good glass of scotch. Once I've swallowed the liquid down, I look into my father's green eyes. It's like looking into a mirror. I've always been a perfect likeness to the man.

"There is something else you want to tell me about." I study him. Noticing how his shoulders are tight with tension. His jaw is clamped down so tight I would think he would wind up breaking his teeth. "Spit it out pops." My patience is wavering.

His eyes swing to my uncle, who is sitting beside me. I hear the man clear his throat as he tells me "My daughter and her best friend have moved out of Chicago." Both men shut their mouths, practically holding their breath to wait and see what I will do.

My hands fold into fists along the seat. Snapping my neck from left to right I take a deep breath. Doing what I can to calm down. "Your brother and cousins have been visiting them and keeping an eye on the two of them." Pop's tries to calm the raging demon fighting to come out of me now.

"When?" My voice comes out so low, showing them just how close I am to losing it. "One year ago." His words make my eyes shoot to him. Glaring at him, showing all the fury I am feeling in this moment my father doesn't dare break eye contact with me. He knows if he does, I'll attack.

"Where are they?" Depending on what the next words are that leave the man's lips will decide what I will do next. "They are only an hour away." My uncle cuts into the conversation. Once his words filter through my mind I relax back into my seat.

Seeing my body relax has the two men breathing normally once more. "That's not too bad. I can live with that." I look out the window, watching the rain beat down onto the earth. "For now."

"Did Cooper do as I asked?" I turn to look at my uncle. He has a sly grin on his lips. "Well, not sure if you heard but the chief of police had a really bad car accident a few months back." He takes a sip of his scotch, "He had been in a coma for that amount of time. They must pull his plug tonight."

A feeling of euphoria runs through my veins. "That's too bad." I lie causing both men to laugh. "Is he at the hospital or his home?" Either way I will find a way to be there. Watch as the useless fucker dies.

" He is at Saint Memorial Hospital." My father answers me. I stretch out my legs, bringing both of my arms under my head. Laying back I look up at the roof. "Well, I know what I will be doing tonight." My father calls me his boy, as my uncle claps me on the shoulder laughing. It feels so good to be free and to be me once again.
