A Daughter, A Sister and A Mother

Mei Xuan's POV

Father created us to lead his army of Angels.
Us, my two brothers and me, we led the heaven's armys.
YiJun Gege, was the oldest, Father's most trusted, most loved. And with good reason. He was loyal to the core. He was more powerful than me and A Jian put together. And he loved us. He truly did.

For eons, we did as we were told, we fought the filth from hell, we granted wishes and guided the lost souls. We never slept. We never stopped. And we never lost our faith in our Father.

Now, it has been eighteen years since he fell. And it was I, who had pushed him on that cursed day. I had no choice. If I wouldn't have pushed him, Father would have killed him. And I would have lost, not only my brother, but my son as well... My Xian.

I am an Archangel, a celestial entity. We are forbidden to love. We are forbidden from giving or receiving, carnal pleasures. It's a sin that diminishes our aura, our power.
But that is exactly what I did... I fell in love, and I doomed not only myself, but my brother as well.

Eighteen years ago, I was assigned to look over a family, who had the fate of an entire nation resting on their shoulders. I did as I was told. I met them, made them trust me and guided them. Of course, they didn't know who or what I truly was.

Those days, the days that I spent with them, pretending to be a human, were the best days of my existence. I had always wondered what it would be like, to live and love, like humans.

Curiosity, I blame myself for being curious. I blame myself for falling in love. I blame myself for everything that happened after.

When I had told Gege, that I had fallen in love and given myself to a human, he was upset and perturbed.

"Meimei, Father will never forgive you." He had said, holding me close to his chest.

I had cried in his arms for hours. And he had held me. He had made sure that my sin was hidden from our Father. And he had been successful...at least for a while.

I had ended my relationship with the mortal with a heavy heart, for if Father would get even a faintest whiff of what had transpired in that home, not only him, but his whole family would be finished in a matter of seconds. I did not want that. I was in love, after all.

Things had not gone according to plan. I had found out a few days later, that I was carrying the mortal's child.
How it had happened, was beyond me.
Once again I had confided in Gege, and we had come up with a plan to protect me and my unborn child, from heaven's wrath.

Brother had pleaded with Father on my behalf, to let me meditate in the Kunlan mountain to purify my spiritual energy.

Father had agreed, he knew that spending time with humans drains our power and taints us with the sins they, the mortals, commit knowingly or unknowingly.

I had gone into hiding and stayed there. Time started passing like a stream through mountains and I watched as my belly swelled.

In a blink of an eye, nine months had passed, and I had given birth to a beautiful baby boy. I was happy, I was ecstatic and in my euphoric state of mind I had left the cave that I had spent the last seven months in. I had stepped out to show my son, his new home. I had forgotten that it was never going to happen. That he could never call heaven, his home.

Should have known better that to step out. For no sooner had I taken a few steps out of the cave, a lightning had struck a few feet away from were I was standing. I had clutched the infant close to my bosom and had run back inside.

A few seconds later, Gege had arrived. He had looked furious. He had yelled at me... for the first and last time, "Do you know what you have done!?"

Then, his eyes had fallen on the bundle in my arms. He had walked towards me and looked at my son's face.

All anger had drained from his face and an affectionate smile had replaced it.

I was shocked. I had never seen my brother smile, at least, not like this. He was a strict disciplinarian. His words and actions were always calculated. The most we ever got from him, even in the most joyful situations, was a slight upturn of lips.

He was called the ice price for a reason. His heart was compassionate, yet cold. But when he had taken my son in his arms, I had literally felt the ice in his heart, melt.

"What have you named him?" He had asked placing soft kisses on the soles my son's feet.

I had pouted. He had looked at me questioningly, with a small smile playing on his lips, "Meimei, why are you pouting like a child who lost a toy?"

"You took away my son's first kisses!" I had cribbed. Unexpectedly, brother had passed the child back to me and had turned away, "I am sorry. I shouldn't have done that." He had said.

'Did he just blush... No, that can't be.' I had thought. To this day, I am not sure if I had actually seem my brother blush that day.

A few seconds later, he had turned towards me once again and asked, "Name. Tell me his name."

I had smiled, "Why don't you give him a name. He is yours as well."

Brother's eyes had left my son's face then, and he had looked at me. He had looked hesitant when he had asked, "Mine?"

"Yes, yours." I had said and nodded. Because the truth was, that the soul reason my son had taken birth unharmed, was because Gege had made sure of it. He had poured half of his spiritual power into concealing the cave and making it impenetrable.

He had continued to look at my son's angelic face for a few seconds and whispered in his ears, "Xian."

"Xian... " I had repeated after him. "It's beautiful Gege, just like him. Thank you."
He had smiled and had continued to look at my son, as if mesmerized.

"Gege, how will I protect him?" I ask him, my voice filled with dread and uncertainty.

He had pulled me into a gentle embrace and whispered, "Meimei, you said that he is mine, so I vow to you today, that come what may, I will protect him. Till my last breath, I will protect him."

Then suddenly, his expression had changed and he had stepped away from me.
"Stay here." He had ordered and walked towards the exit, but right at that moment, A Jian, the youngest of us, had walked inside.
"I heard everything." He had said, looking at us.

"You disgust me!" He had yelled. Then he had turned, and left immediately, without giving us a chance to explain.

Gege had turned and looked at me. The message in his eyes didn't need words, 'We are doomed.' they screamed.

Gege, had tried to hide me once again, but within a day, the soldiers had found us. Brother had not raised his sword against them. How could he? He was their General. His entire existence was defined by the role he had played till that day. No, he couldn't bring himself to hurt those, who he had pledged to lead and protect.

He had given himself up willingly.
"Take me to father." he had said with his head held high. But when the soldiers had turned to Xian and me, he had roared, "Don't touch them!"

"Wrath, is sin brother." Jian had said entering the cave at that exact moment.

"Mei Jian, she is our sister!" Gege had said.

Jian had only smiled and ordered the soldiers to proceed. "And yet, you touched her and created this abomination."

I had opened my mouth to protest but Gege had gestured me to remain silent.

"Fine, take us to Father." Gege had said, his head hanging low.

It was my fault. All of it. And yet, it was my dear brother YiJun, who had borne the punishment.
