Thirty Five

A few hours later, Taehyung enters his room. He is so tired that he feels like he might pass out from exhaustion the moment he sits on his bed.

To say he had a good night was far from the reality. He's not saying that Hoseok's company is not fun. It is. The guy is literally the definition of fun and optimism. But the things that Jin told Taehyung had all his attention. He could not think of anything but that. Why was the Yakuza after him? What do they want from him now? He thought everything was over and over the years, he really thought he would not meet them again. But they are here, for him and he does not know how to feel about this whole situation.

He is still so engrossed in his thoughts that he does not notice the other side of the room being empty until he sits on his bed and faces Jungkook's side of the room.

His eyebrows furrow in confusion first before raising. Where are Jungkook's belongings?

He quickly gets up from the bed and walks towards the cherry haired boy's wardrobe. His mouth is left open when  he sees that it's empty. Where did he go? Taehyung wonders and his heart sinks a little. He is not used to this. Even when there were times that Jungkook didn't spend enough time in this room, he was still assured that he is not alone. That Jungkook would come back.

But now the empty room makes him panic. He dashes towards his bed to grab his phone and call the cherry haired male but when he tries calling him, it goes straight to the voicemail.

Did he take my suggestion of not being friends anymore this seriously that he won't even answer my phone now? Taehyung rolls his eyes and throws his phone on the bed. He is so annoyed. He thought after the art gallery show, he would actually be happy but so much crap happened and he does not know how to deal with it.

He decides to go to the bathroom and get changed. A good night's sleep is what he needs but when he stands up to go to the washroom, his eyes land on Jungkook's table. There is a paper kept on it, pressed with a round paper weight.

Taehyung moves towards it with furrowed eyebrows and removes the paper weight to hold the paper in his hand. There's something written on it in Jungkook's handwriting. He hurriedly starts reading it.

Hey Taehyung!

If you're reading this, that means I'm already gone. Oh God, it sounds so clichéd and dramatic. Well, I'm gone but I'm not dead yet, you know, so don't worry :)

Taehyung rolls his eyes at the bad joke Jungkook just made in the piece of paper but his heart feels heavy. He has this gut feeling that this letter would make him sadder than he already is.

But, I think since we're friends no more, I should move out of the room. I don't want to deal with the awkwardness. It would spoil all the good memories we have together and I honestly don't want that.

So you have the room to yourself now. You can enjoy your freedom all you want.

Oh by the way, congratulations for your paintings getting sold at the art gallery show. I heard about it from Hobi hyung. It makes me happy that you made some progress in the direction you really wanna go. It's honestly a thousand times better than what you do for a living now.

As a gift for your first success, open the third drawer of my table. There should be a package. It's for you from my side. I would've loved to see your reaction but things change and I think this is for the best.

Also, I'll mail you my portion of the assignment or if you complete your part first, just mail me. I'll compile it. That should do the work.

Stay safe, Taehyung and don't try to find too much information about me or anything. It won't be good for you and this is not a threat, it's an advice from your ex best friend.

Knowing you was a great experience, Kim Taehyung! Have a good life ahead. I'll always be rooting for you even if I'm not there with you.

-Once yours. Kookie

Taehyung does not realise when a drop of tear slips out of his eyes. He places the paper back on the table and gently wipes his eyes with the back of his hand.

Right! The package. Taehyung reminds himself before bending down to open the drawer Jungkook mentioned in his letter. He sees a paper bag kept inside it. He takes it out and sees a box inside the bag. He carefully pulls the bag out, wondering what is in it. It isn't very heavy. Is it some kind of clothing? He asks himself before opening the box.

When he sees what's inside it, his mouth hangs open. It's the same dress he was staring at when he went to the mall with Jungkook.

He noticed and even got it for me. He says to himself as a small, sad smile makes it's way on his lips.

If it was a normal day, he would've squealed, but now he misses Jungkook a lot.

He was his only friend in a very long time. Well, Hoseok is too but he spent a lot of time with the cherry haired male and he has gotten used to him. How is he going to deal with the loneliness again? How is he going to manage staying calm when there's a thunderstorm? Was breaking his friendship off with Jungkook even a good decision?

But Jin said his boss said not to associate themselves with Taehyung because the Yakuza told them to leave him alone. By now, Taehyung has connected the dots and figured out that Jungkook works for Orion. Why else would he be so close to Jin? And why else would he leave the room altogether? It's simple. Because he is a part of Orion and he does not want to associate himself with Taehyung anymore.

But the blue haired boy cannot figure out why the Yakuza are coming after him? How did they even find him? He isn't even in Daegu anymore.

He sighs and decides to finally take a shower. He knows he wouldn't figure out shit if the Yakuza doesn't want him to, even if he burnt his braincells to their fullest capacity so he better just wait and watch. What else can he do?

--------------‐-------------‐-----

A few days have already passed since Jungkook moved out of his dorm. Both Jungkook and Taehyung did not talk to each other since then. The both of them feel a void but they cannot do anything about it. Jungkook sees Taehyung every day. He notices how sad and lonely his ex roommate is but still he knows he cannot just walk up to him and talk to him. They are no longer friends and it needs to stay that way if they want to avoid trouble.

But that does not mean Jungkook doesn't feel guilty for leaving Taehyung alone in the dorm. After all, he knows he was his closest friend. But he also knows that he cannot put his heart before his mind in situations like these. They would just ruin his future and nothing is more important than that. Not even Taehyung.

If he was already the mafia boss, it would've been okay since no one could question his relationship with the blue haired boy. They would be mad and danger would come running after them, true. But no one could dare question them. Unfortunately, Jungkook is not the boss yet. He still has to prove himself and gain everyone's trust back since he messed up big time.

The bell rings, marking the end of his class. He is so hungry that he practically leaps towards the cafeteria. "Hey, Jungkook! I wanted to talk to you about something!" Hoseok comes running after him.

"Yes, hyung?" He smiles at the older. Besides Jimin and Taehyung, he only likes Hoseok genuinely. The older is literally the angel of happiness.

Hoseok asks him something, but he does not hear it as he is too busy staring at Taehyung who is sitting in the garden, chewing on a sandwich. His heart clenches everytime he sees his ex roommate alone. Taehyung has most probably stopped going to the cafeteria because he does not want to get picked on by some dumb assholes. Somehow, everyone knows that Jungkook and Taehyung have fallen apart and they just want to take advantage of that situation. As much as the cherry haired male wants to help Taehyung, he cannot and it makes him feel like the worst person ever.

"Jungkook, I asked you something." Hoseok shakes his shoulder to shake him out of his thoughts. The cherry haired male looks at older and gives him an utterly confused look, "Uh, hyung! Did you say something?"

"I asked if you've seen Jimin but you seem to be somewhere else." Hoseoks teases. Jungkook's eyes cast to the ground. He has never been like this. He's usually very alert. Not paying attention is something very unusual for him, blame it on a certain blue haired boy.

"Uh... Jimin said he was going to find you. But instead, you're here looking for him." Jungkook informs and the older male lightly smacks his forehead. "He could've just called."

"You can too, hyung." Jungkook says and Hoseok looks at him as if he just gave a theory like Einstein. "You're a genius, Kook."

"Tell me something I don't know." Jungkook dramatically rolls his eyes, making Hoseok roll his eyes for real. They suddenly start laughing after that. Soon, their eyes fall on Taehyung again but this time he is not alone. He is talking to Minhyun.

At the sight in front of him, Jungkook's palm rolls into a fist. He just hates seeing Minhyun near his ex roommate because he knows that the boy is nothing but trouble. His teeth are clenched too and Hosek notices the change in his mood and expression. He looks at the younger male and sighs. "Can I ask you something, Jungkook?" He asks. The cherry haired male just nods his head without looking at him.

"Do you... like Taehyung by any chance?" He asks, making Jungkook's head snap in his direction. The younger's eyes are wide. How does he know?

"No, hyung." He immediately denies but he cannot escape the piercing gaze of the other male who has the look that screams 'who are you even kidding'.

"Well, I don't believe you." Hoseok says, after a little pause.

"But you should."

"Look, Kook. I know something is very wrong between the two of you and the both of you need to sort it out. I know how close you two were but now something happened and you guys distanced yourselves from each other. Literally, an idiot can also notice this. So stop fooling me and sort this problem out. I feel like I'm torn between the two of you because both of you are my friends but I can't do anything to help you." Hoseok says. He has no idea how mad he just made Jungkook. Its not like the cherry haired male wanted to do all this. He likes Taehyung too much to do that. But some things need to be done. You need to lose something in order to gain something.

"Look, hyung..." Jungkook is about to say something when he notices Taehyung walking towards them. The boy's eyes are cast down towards the floor. It's clear that he is doing this to avoid Jungkook.

The future mafia boss would've let him go too, if his eyes did not fall on his neck and wrists that are heavily bruised. A surge of anger runs through his body and he marches towards his ex roommate.

"Taehyung, follow me." He says in a stern voice when the blue haired boy is close enough and then starts leading the way.
