You lied...But I still love you (Part 2)
"I am going to find her. I will be her knight in armor and save her"
"Change: She'll be your knight in armor" Grover confirmed "You can be her damsel in distress."
Percy looked irritatedly at Grover, as if he had stolen his food. Which he had, Percy noticed, as he found out that one cookie was missing. "You betrayer," he snarled and launched himself towards Grover, snatching the cookie from his hand. The boys didn't laugh, like they were supposed to. But instead they started discussing ideas on how to save Annabeth.
"You can dress as one of the princess," Grover suggested, "And then plan a quick escape with Annabeth."
"Umm," Percy analysed the suggestion, trying to modify it to suit himself (he definitely did not want to wear and dress and a wig, but if it was for Annabeth...)
"I can be a guard there," he finalized, looking around to find one particular blonde head.
"Basically what I said." Grover interjected.
"Yeah, but a guard. Not a princess."
*Time skkkkiiiipppppp*
"Got it?" Percy inquired, shaking his head at Jason who took a long time to process his plan. He and Grover had spent an hour explaining it to Jason, who kept on suggesting weird ideas like "Maybe he can become a koi fish," he said "Then I can take him and we can fly the air. I can drop him beside Annabeth, with the James Bond music playing in the background. Then Percy can transform back to Percy and we save Annabeth." He had suggested and Percy and Grover had slapped him on his face.
"Got it." Jason confirmed as Percy and Grover exhaled a breath of relief.
"Right," Grover said, "Let's go."
And then, for reasons unknown to Percy and Grover, Jason ran out of the room screaming "WAKANDA FOREVER!"
*Time skip to Sparta*
"Hey you- ow" the guard shrieked in pain as Percy punched him. He had managed to get to the castle undetected by acting as a Spartan. But he was caught by this guard, and anyways the plan did require him to steal the clothes of one guard.
Well, it required him to kill him. Yes, he came armed with a dagger, hidden in the inner pockets of his coat. But Percy's heart wasn't ruthless enough to kill anyone, much less harm them. But of course he would kill for Annabeth- he would do anything for her. Even if she didn't like him the same way.
After he was sure the fellow was unconscious, Percy secretly managed to drag him into an abandoned shaft and nicked his clothes, which were a size too small for him, displaying his muscles quite easily to the human eye. He cut the sleeves of the t-shirt with dagger to above his elbow, opening his forearms. Then he strapped the breastplate, attached the scabbard and sheathed the guard's "borrowed" sword. He also hid his dagger in the small boots, in case.
Percy even thought of leaving him a 'Be happy I didn't kill you❤️' note, but he thought that would be wasting time, so he quickly packed up and braced himself for saving Annabeth.
Stepping out of the shaft as a Spartan soldier, Percy started looking around for any signs of Annabeth's location. When he couldn't find any, he decided to ask the other guards about it. He spotted a random guard and asked him, "Any idea of where the princess is?"
The guard grimaced and muttered something similar to a ducking glass door princess.
"You want the duty?" the guard asked Percy.
'What duty?' Percy wanted to ask but held back, and nodded. "Yes, yes, I want the duty."
"I'm warning you," the guard warned, "Don't." He jabbed his finger towards his body and Percy noticed the bruises, the scars, fresh. Not old, but new. "I took it for one hour and look at me," he said and leaned closer, whispering scarily "Thank god we have something to threaten her with, or we would all have died by now. The whole kingdom... GONE!"
Percy felt something stir inside, it was pride. Pride on Annabeth. But then the guard looked at him as if Percy's reaction hadn't satisfied him, so Percy smiled nervously "That's one handful princess." while inside, he was screaming proudly "I love you Annabeth!"
He thanked the guard, asked him for directions to the place from where he could get the duty, and left. After following the directions, he ended up in a dark chamber. The ceiling was high, and the whole room was made out of black stone walls. There were no windows, only one lit chandelier illuminating the dark room.
In the center of the room stood a familiar figure. A woman, tall and slender, stood tied by thick iron chains to her hands and ankles. Her ragged blonde hair was reflecting off the light from the chandelier, and her gray eyes were fixed on the ceiling, refusing to look at the newcomer. Bruises, whip markings, and scars decorated her body and she wore them like any other woman would wear her earrings. An annoyed expression was plastered on her face, as if all the scars didn't hurt but just annoyed her. She held herself with pride, unaffected by anything.
"Annabeth," Percy called, looking horrified at his love, all tortured and whipped, but no words came out. He removed his guard helmet, revealing his face and moved towards her.
She didn't move her gaze, but the familiar feeling of someone filled her with calm, something she hadn't been able to acquire for long.
"Annabeth," he finally said, the word itself beautiful like the owner (Pls don't think it's Rick). Annabeth turned her head, her gray eyes staring into his green ones "Percy?"
"Its me" he said approaching her and using his dagger to cut the manacles, but they didn't budge. He passed her a comforting look, telling her that he had it under control.
Annabeth suddenly moved, removing something from her hair- a clip, and inserted it inside the lock. After few seconds for twisting and turning, the lock popped open.
"Percy" she used her now open wrist to cup his face.
"Why?" He asked, "Why didn't you come back?"
She didn't reply. At this, Percy asked again "Why Annie? Why lie? Why didn't you come back? If you could have using the clip, then why didn't you?"
"I didn't want Athens to be destroyed." She said "I could have easily escaped but they threated me. If I would have escaped then the whole of Athens would be dead by now,"
Filled with guilt, Percy touched her hand with his. A jolt of electricity passed through his nerves as he made up his mind and planted a soft kiss on Annabeth's cheek. "I'm sorry," he said, staring into her storm gray eyes "We should get moving now."
Annabeth's face had softened with the minuscule kiss, but she nodded and picked the other manacles. They popped open and Annabeth, as Percy would have imagined, didn't drop or fall. Instead she stood the way a royal would, held herself with pride and grace. Percy marvelled at how a person, whipped and bruised and scarred, could stand up in such a bright way. It was as if she was giving away light even if she was all harmed.
The couple dashed out of the cellar, taking random twists and turns, and finally getting deposited in a dark corridor. Annabeth had warned Percy that someone was following them, but Percy saw no evidence so he shrugged. "No one's following us" he informed.
He was wrong.
"Annabeth Chase is it?"
A dark silhouette emerged from the gloomy corner. As he came closer, Percy realised that he was armed, and many medals were attached to his uniform. He felt Annabeth beside him turn around, so he did so himself and when he heard her ran, he ran.
Only to be blocked by another figure.
This one familiar to Percy.
It was the same guard whose clothes Percy had nicked, the same guard who he had refused to kill. And look where it got him?
"You informed them didn't you?" Percy asked him.
"I'd be a fool not to. Unlike you," he snarled "You coule have killed me. Escaped. But no. You-" he could finish his sentence, as a knife has plunged itself into his ribcage. Red blood was flowing down the wound, like water from a dam. Percy realised that Annabeth, his Annabeth, wasn't always the girl he thought- she was ruthless at heart. He knew it, but now he knew how ruthless.
Guards started surrounding them as they positioned themselves- with their backs touched and towards each other, the couple stood shoulder to shoulder, sharp weapons in their hands and a implacable fire in their hearts.
Before Percy could even comprehend his moves, Annabeth had already shot two knives which impaled themselves home into two Spartans. Percy let his knife fly, and it penetrated deep into another Spartan's cheat. Annabeth threw with dead accuracy, never missing a shot. The two made a great team, reducing the number of guards surrounding them, hoping for an alarm to not go off, so that they can escape quietly and safely.
Percy's knives ran out quickly, as he missed a few shots. He then unsheathed his longsword, got ready in a crouch and searched for a foe. He couldn't stop anyone- had they killed them all?
No.
With a movement as quick as air blowing in your face, the head of the army, or atleast what Percy assumed he was, emerged from thin air and clanged his sword against Percy's.
Before Percy could lift his sword to attack, Annabeth threw a knife with aim that stabbed the guy in his head.
Percy watched, astonished, as he dropped dead to the ground.
Quicker than a cheetah, Annabeth grabbed his hand and led the way out of the palace. Percy caught a glimpse of her right hand to the wall and felt the mesmerizing touch of her left hand on his. They scrambled out if the palace and got deposited into the backyard.
There were no guards there, thank god, Percy thought. From there, Percy led the way to the safe carriage, where he expected Grover and Jason.
And there they were.
"HERE YOU ARE YOU PIECES OF SHITS!"
The couple hopped onto the carriage and set off for home. Except that Percy got hit by a knife, and bleed the whole way home. With a jerk he realised, that the knife was a poisonous one. He knew he had to do it, right now. Right freaking now. Using all the energy that was left, he leaned in and kissed Annabeth on the lips.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"Here we are, today, to celebrate the marriage of my daughter and the queen of Athens and to celebrate her come back from Sparta" the kind announced, his voice echoing through the auditorium.
At this, the audience gave a huge round of applause as Annabeth, along with her bridesmaids- Thalia and Hazel walked down the aisle.
"First of all, I would like to honour Mr.Perseus Jackson without whom this escape might have been impossible. A moment of silence of him," the king said as Annabeth stopped at the altar.
"Second of all, Congratulations to my daughter," the king said and sat down into his chair.
Out came the groom. Red hair, blue eyes and a slender figure, wearing an expensive suit and red bow tie that matched his hair. He came to altar with his groomsmen and joined Annabeth.
The ceremonies were performed and Annabeth married to the man- Christopher, his name was. It was hard for Annabeth to hide her tears. She had imagined this, this same ceremony, many times, but with a certain raven head. Not this guy.
She missed him. She missed her Percy. More than words could ever say. She wanted to be with him, along him. But fate always prevented that, didn't it?
Atleast she hoped he was alright and in peace now.
"Rest in peace, Percy"
