Chapter Twenty Four: Dinner.
A/N: I apologise for the wait. I hope this is worth it. Also Oh My God GUYS, 147K reads?!?! Thank you so much!
Also please let me know if you want smut in this story, I'm on the fence about it. If there's no smut there will be one more chapter after this. With smut they'd be two more chapters.

Kageyama had never been quite this nervous. Well, maybe before some of their matches but it's a different kind of nervous. That's nervous-excited. This is just... nervous.
It's irrational. A part of him knows that. His parents already like Hinata and are already, on some level, aware that he and Hinata are not just friends. He has nothing to fear. His mother is on the verge of planning their wedding so why is Kageyama so nervous about his parents having dinner with Hinata?
Kageyama wants to tear his own hair out for being such a nervous wreck over a simple meal with his parents and boyfriend.
Despite his nerves Kageyama still smiles when he thinks that word. Boyfriend. Hinata is his boyfriend. There's unlikely to be a day, Kageyama feels, where he won't smile at the thought of Hinata and him being in a relationship.
"What are you smiling at, weirdo?" Hinata laughs from where he's sat on Kageyama's bed.
Hinata looks as calm as Kageyama wished he felt. Why isn't he worried? Because it's stupid to worry over a dinner, Kageyama thinks, but still he'd like to know the secret to that ease right now.
"Nothing." Kageyama shrugs, walking over and leaning down to press a kiss to Hinata's lips.
"Wah?!" Hinata's face turns bright red and he covers his mouth, looking at Kageyama with wide eyes. He hadn't been expecting a kiss - he actually kind of expected to be hit for calling Kageyama a weirdo. "W-What was that about?!"
"Just kissing my boyfriend." Kageyama chuckles.
Hinata huffs before nodding. His face is still red. It makes Kageyama want to kiss him over and over and over.
So he does, leaning down and kissing Hinata softly again.
"Kag-" Hinata tries to protest but he's soon relaxing and kissing back, not even pretending to push Kageyama away when his hands slide up to his neck.
Kageyama hums and pushes Hinata backwards gently, one knee settling either side of Hinata's legs. He continues to press kisses to Hinata's lips and they gradually grow longer and softer the closer they get to laying across the bed.
"Kag...eyama.." Hinata murmurs his name in two parts between kisses.
Kageyama isn't that interested in talking and if he's honest with himself neither is Hinata.
Neither are sure how much time is spent there, kissing and stroking hair and faces. Absorbed in each other and the way each kiss makes their bodies light up in a way that can be described with a thousand different, poetic words but still be indescribable.
They're both a little flushed, the room feeling much warmer than a few minutes - or was it hours? - ago. Small pants escape their lips when they aren't kissing or letting out little appreciative noise.
Kageyama doesn't really think about it when he gently uses his teeth to tug on Hinata's lower lip but he's not at all sorry when the boy beneath him moans against his lips and he feels the shiver of pleasure that runs from Hinata's head to his toe. Kageyama repeats the action, enjoying the reaction more than he'll admit.
Hinata's breathing hitches this time and another shiver runs through him, his back arching of it's own accord.
Hinata's face is red all over, to the tips of his ears. He puts a hand to Kageyama's stomach, stopping him from moving in again. His eyes are blown wide and he stares up at Kageyama, panting still. He looks a little scared. Kageyama gently runs his finger tips down Hinata's face.
"Are you okay, Hinata?" He asks, keeping his voice soft.
Hinata nods dumbly. "Yes... Fine.. J-Just.. If you press close you're going to.." He lowers his voice even more. "feel it, you know?"
His eyes flicker down briefly after taking in Kageyama's bemused expression.
His eyes widen in understanding and he nods. "Oh! You're-"
"Don't say it! Christ, Kageyama!" Hinata blushes even more, somehow, and throws an arm over his face.
Kageyama can't stop himself from chuckling a little at Hinata's embarrassment. Hinata huffs and twists away from Kageyama as well as he can when half his body is under him.
He pulls on Hinata's arm until he moves it away from his face, meeting Kageyama's eyes. His own embarrassed but with a certain kind of hunger buried.
"It's fine, dumbass. I am too."
Hinata's eyes widen again and he looks down between them, noting that Kageyama's trousers definitely do not bulge like that in the front for no reason.
"Oh.." He whispers.
Kageyama can't help himself, he starts to laugh a little. It is a bit embarrassing but also exciting. He's all giddy. Hinata soon joins in with his nervous yet happy laughter. It's not a concious thought as they laces their fingers together beside Hinata's head.
Hinata squeezes their joined hands slightly, still laughing - in no way is it a giggle! - when Kageyama dips down to press again soft kiss to his mouth.
Hinata's eyes fall closed and he just let's himself get pulled into the bliss of laying here and exchanging small kisses with his boyfriend. There's no rush and he's in no hurry for this to end. It feels good. It feels right. It sounds like something he'd see in a cliché movie about how it just all feels so perfect and peaceful but Hinata can see the truth in all those cliché scenes filled with cliché words.
He loves every single part of it. He loves how soft Kageyama's lips are - he uses chapstick or something he's sure of it even the other boy denies it. He loves the way he'll occasionally feel Kageyama's fingers running through his hair. He loves feeling Kageyama's strong legs, from all the years of practicing, either side of him. He loves all the hums and almost moans.
Most of all, he just loves Kageyama's presence. Sure the other boy can be annoying and competitive at times, boyfriend or not, and Hinata knows he gets on Kageyama's nerves too but being around him is good for Hinata. He feels good around Kageyama, especially since they became a couple.
"What are you thinking about? You look miles away." Kageyama whispers.
Hinata shrugs a little. "Just about you... about us."
Kageyama smiles at that, eyes lighting up. Hinata wishes he could take a picture of Kageyama's face like this. No one would ever believe that Kageyama's smile could be so beautiful and relaxed. He doesn't look scary at all right now.
Before either of them can say anything more Kageyama's mum is calling up the stairs. "Tobio! Hinata-kun! Dinner will be ready in about five minutes."
Their eyes widen and they both look down between them, aware they can't go downstairs in this state.
"I'll go in the bathroom first." Kageyama offers.
Hinata just nods, face a million different shades of red once again. He wasn't really sure what to say to that. He knows it's normal and he should be able to discuss these things with his boyfriend but they've never really had coversations about this stuff. He only ever talked about sex and stuff with Noya and Tanaka but even that was only once in a blue moon.
Ten minutes later, Hinata and Kageyama are sitting at the dinner table and trying not to look like they've just been up to anything they shouldn't have been. Hinata's cheeks are still a little red from his turn in the bathroom. If either of Kageyama's parents think anything is wrong they don't say a word.
"So, Hinata-kun, tell us about yourself. We're dying to get to know Tobio's boyfriend." She grins widely.
"Mum!" Kageyama protests, huffing and looking down at his plate.
Hinata bites his lip and looks between Kageyama and his mum. "Um, I.. I play volleyball, um.. That's about it, Mrs--"
"No, no. No Mrs. Kageyama.. Call me Aya, please, Hinata-kun."
Hinata nods. "Oh, uh, okay... Aya. I'm.. on the same team as Kageyama. I'm not that good at much else but I don't really want to be good at anything else." He explains with a wide grin at the woman across from him. "Oh, and you can call me Shoyo if you want."
"You two are made for each other." Kageyama's dad laughs. "I can't see Tobio dating someone that isn't into volleyball."
His name is Hiro, Hinata's pretty sure but he doesn't know what to call him. Kageyama's mum may be okay with first names but that doesn't mean Kageyama's dad is.
Hinata gives a small smile and nods a little.
"Has Tobio met your parents yet, Shoyo?" Aya asks.
Hinata shakes his head and bit his lip. "I, uh.. No. My parents.. don't know yet... about us." Hinata explains, looking down in shame. He doesn't look to Kageyama, worried he may be disappointed.
"Oh, I see... Do you worry they won't approve?" Kageyama's father asks.
Hinata shrugs a little. "I'm not sure, honestly. I don't think they'll disapprove. They've only ever cared that I'm happy but I don't know..."
It's quiet for a few moments. No one really knows what to say. Hinata very nearly jumps out of his skin when he feels Kageyama take his hand under the table.
He glances over to see Kageyama looking away and blushing. Hinata smiles fondly before he looks back to Aya.
"I will tell them soon. It's not even that Kageyama is a boy that makes me nervous to tell him... I've never.. introduced anyone to them. It's different with me meeting you because I met you before we got together but all my parents know about Kageyama is that he's my setter and best friend. They've never met him." Hinata explains, rambling a little bit and snapping his mouth shut.
His eyes nervously flicker between Aya and Hiro, worried that he might have been rude. Both are just smiling softly, understanding. Hinata breathes a sigh of relief.
They exchange stories as they eat. Kageyama and Hinata both get embarrassed at various points during the evening but it's a nice meal. Hinata gets along with Kageyama's parents as well as he did when they were at his Grandma's house.
They're both lovely people and remind him a little of his own parents in the sense that their main priority is that Kageyama is happy. Hinata feels lucky that Kageyama's parents are so relaxed and don't seem worried about their relationship.
They all watch a movie after food. Kageyama and Hinata sit on the love seat and play with each other's hands in between them. It doesn't feel right to cuddle if front of Kageyama's parents. They're still figuring out everything they're comfortable with when they're alone, never mind in front of other people.
Hinata's confident that this will be good, though. He's sure his parents aren't going to care he's with a boy and his little sister is probably going to like Kageyama once she gets over his scary face.
Everything feels like it's just going to get better. Hinata just hopes that he hasn't jinxed it.
