Chapter Fourteen: A friend!

It's orange, white and a sort of gold colour. Kageyama doesn't know why he picked this one but when he saw it in the shop, he had a mental image of Hinata's large, cheesy grin as the boy holds the volleyball in his hands. He'd ramble excitedly as he does before thanking Kageyama with a kiss. Then they'd head into Kageyama's back garden to play for a while or maybe they'd curl up on Kageyama's bed to watch a movie because it's too cold outside.

Kageyama would ask Hinata to be his boyfriend and he'd get a "Yes!" or a stuttering, embarrassed Hinata nodding or just a kiss and a large grin.

Maybe they'd fall asleep together and later Kageyama would walk Hinata home. They'd say goodbye, they'd kiss and then they'd part, smiling as they walk away. Maybe they'd even glance back, smile and wave until they're out of sight.

That daydream had seemed so close, so within reach, just a few days ago. Recent events have shattered the illusion of Kageyama having any kind of romance with Hinata anytime soon. He'd not seen Hinata since the incident with Girl #1 yesterday but he's sure as hell hearing about him. Rumours of him dating that girl - Miko, apparently - are spreading at school. He's even been asked if it's true. People are unaware of the tension between them, it seems, as Kageyama was asked a number of times about the boy as if Hinata has been spending as much time with him as usual.

Thank God that it's the weekend. That's all Kageyama can think as he falls on to his bed. Seeing the volleyball he brought Hinata in the corner, he turns to face the wall and closes his eyes.

He's a bit lost. He wants to find out what's going on with his friend - like isn't like Hinata at all. At the same time, however, he has a horrid feeling in his gut that even if he were to somehow see whatever sense this supposedly makes in Hinata's head then it won't make a difference to.their relationship. They're stay friends.

Maybe Hinata had kissed him back out of pity... He did kiss Kageyama again of his own free will, though, and they cuddled that night.

What if he regrets it?

Kageyama feels sick and he curls in on himself, pulling a pillow over his head to try and block everything out. Even his own thoughts.

Kageyama doesn't even realise that he's drifting towards sleep until he's woken a few hours later by his mum.

"Tobio. Tobio. Sweetie, you've got a friend at the door. Be in by ten PM, all right?" She says to the half asleep teen before leaving.

It takes a moment for her words to set in and then he sits up quickly, almost giving himself whiplash with the force of it.

A friend! It had to be him... Who else would come to his house?

Kageyama stands and pats his hair to ensure it's flat, wipes his mouth incase pf any dropl before he heads out the room to go see HInata.

Kageyama's heart is pounding. Maybe Hinata has come to tell him he's sorry. Maybe he's come to tell Kageyama that he doesn't like him despite the kisses and cuddles. Either way, Hinata is here and he's going to get some answers.

His mum would have let Hinata in to stand by the door to wait. So he'll see Hinata when he turns from the bottom of the stairs.

Kageyama goes down the stairs and turns towards the door, planning to say something like "Come to explain?" but whatever he planned to say left when he realises that the person stood by his door is definitely not Hinata.

"Sayuri?" He asks, confused.

"K-Kageyama-kun!" She squeaks, as if surprised to see him. Her cheeks turn red and she looks down at the floor. "I'm... I'm sorry for just turning up but I don't have your phone number and I don't have anyone else right now..."

His eyes widen as tears begin to well in her eyes. He's not sure how well he'd handle this. Badly probably. Luckily, she takes a deep breath and puts on a brave face.

"I-I thought that maybe we could go to the park." Sayuri looks down again. "I know that we're not really friends but now that Hinata has..." Her lower lip trembles.

Kageyama rushes forward and shakes his head. "Let's go to the park. I mean, I know it was just a few hours but... we're friends."

Sayuri grins widely at that, the shock clear despite the smile. "Really?"

Kageyama nods, remembering the way he'd yelled at Hinata because he knew this would hurt her. He's got no idea why he's taken to her so quickly. She's funny, kind and one of the few people that will be honest with you. At least, that's the impression he's got of the girl so far.

Before putting his shoes and coat on, Kageyama goes to let his mum know that he's definitely going out she reminds him to be back for ten before smiling and telling them both to have fun, blissfully unaware of the Hinata situation.

Kageyama just nods and Sayuri thanks her while he gets ready to go.

They walk in silence to the park. Kageyama inwardly winces when he realises that it's the park that featured in that dream.

Silently, they walk over to the swings. Kageyama sits and glances over at Sayuri.

He's worried. She's already said enough to tell him that Hinata was her only true friend and now he's... Well, he's left her in favour of a girl that acted like she had a right to dictate what Sayuri was and wasn't allowed to do. Kageyama doesn't know why Sayuri didn't tell her to politely fuck off sooner - even if she is shy, she doesn't seem the type to allow herself to be so disrespected.

"Hinata has never not spoke to me or brushed me off before. He's never picked her over me... Hiata always said that he hated the way she treated me and that was the number one reason he could never be her friend." She takes a deep breath, calming her trembling voice. "Do you have any idea what's going through Hinata's head?"

Kageyama shakes his head. "I wish I did."

"This isn't like him. He always just... tolerated her. I know it's a nasty thing to say but the way she made no secret of her.. affections was a little overwhelming to him. I just don't understand." She shakes her head, as if somehow able to make the issue disappear by denying it. Sayuri then sighs, shoulders sagging. The problem wouldn't just fix itself. "If he were actually a model and everyone had just found out, maybe I could understand it but this-"

"Maybe it's my fault." Kageyama interrupts, a possible answer coming to mind.

Turning to him, Sayuri frowns, clearly confused. "What?"

Kageyama looks around, checking no one was around despite being fully aware that they're the only two in the park. "I... You can't tell anyone if I explain why this may be... my fault."

She nods eagerly, eyes wide and hopeful as she looks to him for an answer as to why she's suddenly lost a friend.

"I," Kageyama licks his lips. "I kissed Hinata."

He watches for her reaction carefully. Most people now a days didn't really care about a person's sexuality. They weren't bothered if a person is gay or straight or whatever he is. Kageyama finds it hard to believe that Sayuri is one of the few that do have an issue with it.

Sayuri nods and sits back, looking at the floor. "I see... So, you think that maybe he's freaking out and that's what this is? How did he react?"

"Hinata kissed me back." It felt strange saying it out loud but at the same time, it was nice to share it with a friend. He wants someone to know that he'd been happy when Hinata and he spent that time together.

She hums gently for a moment. "Okay, so... I've known Hinata a long time but I can't say I know anything about his romantic life. It sounds like you may be right, though. He's confused, maybe, worried, probably and an idiot, certainly."

"Y-You think this is my fault?" Kageyama asks, wincing at the stutter.

"I wouldn't word it like that. It's more... Hinata figuring out exactly what he wants. Don't take my words as gospel, obviously, I can't be sure."

"It sounds logical, though, doesn't it?"

Sayuri nods. "Still, even if he is trying to find out if he likes you, girls or whoever, it makes no sense that he'd hang around with Miko."

Kageyama sighs. "We only have one choice."

She waits for him to expand on what exactly the only opinion they supposedly have is.

"We kidnap Hinata."
