*9* Liar

Brooklyn dragged Marinette out of the room, her heels literally skidding across the floor. She lead her down the hallways, and finally out through the front gate. She walked her into the parking lot.

"Wait, what are we doing here?" Marinette glanced around, looking for a sign as to why they would need to be in a parking lot.

She didn't find one.

"At the end of the day, the whole school comes out here, right?" Brooklyn gestured, her hand showing how big the parking lot was.

"Umm yeah...." Marinette's eyebrows twisted in confusion.

"What better time to let everyone know you're one of us?" Brooklyn showed a sweet smile, along with the group of girls surrounding her.

"Really?" Marinette's eyes lit up, her lips curved into a smile.

Sure it wasn't like being popular in Paris, which she was never able to do. But she was still gonna be popular.

"So what are we gonna do?" Marinette asked.

"You'll see."

Meanwhile

Adrien was having a hard time focusing on dodge ball at the moment. He was worried about Marinette. He could tell something was going on with her, but he wasn't sure how to approach her about it.

She's a friend that he's concerned about, that's all.

Adrien felt a fast jab right into his gut.
With a bang, a ball slammed straight into his stomach.

"Adrien! Over here!" the middle aged gym coach called to him.

Adrien winced and walked over, bending over and holding his stomach. He made his way to the corner of the room, where the brown haired man stood.

"What's wrong with you son?" the man spoke, he called all the guys 'son' though he didn't have one of his own.

"Nothing sir, I'm fine." Adrien lied through his sparkling teeth.

"Then prove it. Get your head in the game!!" the man grabbed his shoulder, forcing him around to be facing the game. With a quick shove, he pushed the blonde back into the game.

This coach treated every game like an Olympic sport. Whether it was dodge ball, or simply capture the flag. And he often had what you would call, 'no chill'.

Adrien sighed and picked up a ball, before chucking it across the room. A guy in a black shirt was hit square in the nose with it.

"Ohhh sorry...." Adrien whispered, that really looked like it hurt.

Calm down Adrien. What's wrong with you right now?

But he knew how to answer himself. He was worried about Marinette, but it was too late to warn her now.

Marinette

She wasn't completely sure what Brooklyn had in mind, But she didn't care. She was totally blinded by the thought of being popular, that it never came to her that this might be a trick.

Or maybe it did, but she dare not admit it.

While they all waited for the bell to ring, the other girls went to go get something, then came back with a bucket.

Brooklyn told Marinette not to worry, that this was how all of the other girls got into the group too. Though, she wasn't really sure what "this" or the "group" really was.

But it was almost time, whatever she was doing was about to happen. Marinette was beginning to get nervous at this point, a goofy smile on her face.

And finally, the bell rang.

The students started to exit the school, fleeing like a colony of ants. But once they saw Brooklyn, they stopped dead in there tracks.

There it was, the whole school, practically dead silent, right in front of them.

Brooklyn began to speak.

"This girl right here, is Marinette Dupain-Cheng." Brooklyn gestured to Marinette, who smiled awkwardly and waved.

"She has come to my attention lately, and I think she deserves a, sort of....welcome." Brooklyn smiled, two of her minions picked up the bucket, and made their way behind Marinette. Another girl pulled out her phone and began recording.

With the bucket hovering over Marinette's head, Brooklyn spoke.

"So, as a lesson for this new girl." Brooklyn grinned at Marinette, who now was putting the peices together.

"You don't mess with me, hun." Brooklyn snapped her fingers and the girls tipped the bucket.

Before she knew it, Marinette was covered in a sticky, messy liquid. She stood in shock, like most of the kids in front of her. Marinette looked down to see her clothes covered in mud.

Slowly, one by one, students began laughing. They continued until nearly the whole school was just roaring with laughter. Luckily, Marinette's face was covered in mud, so you couldn't see the tear slip from her eye.

She dashed off, nearly tripping over her own feet. She ran blindly into the woods, eyes blurry from mud and tears. Her feet betrayed her as she stumbled onto the forest floor. Her face slammed into the dirt and leaves, while her hair caught in some sticks. She let completely loose, crying and sobbing like she never had before.

She couldn't even hate Brooklyn for it. She walked right into it, this was her fault.

Loud footsteps crunched nearby, followed by someone calling her name. She couldn't quite make out the voice, cause she was still crying fairly loudly.

She got onto her knees, before continuing to cry into her hands. The footsteps continued approaching, loud and heavy, someone running.

"Oh Marinette." a voice spoke as the foot steps stopped, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her body.

She now knew exactly who this was.

"Adrien?" she broke his grasp to turn around. He stared at her whole body covered in mud. He took off his jacket, before using it to clean off her face.

"But, tha-,th-" she stuttered through embarrassment and tears.

"Shhhh, it's okay Mari. I can always wash this jacket. You're more important." he caressed her cheek, and her entire face turned bright red.

Such a simple movement, so why did it make her heart flutter? No way she could like this kid, she's a city girl. There was no way.

She didn't know what came over her, whether it was she wanted to hide her embarrassment, or the simple fact that she needed a hug. Either way, she threw herself into his body, nearly knocking him over, wrapping her arms around him tightly.

He buried his face into her hair.
"It's okay Mari, I'm here now."

I am not falling for this country boy..... Am I?
