Chapter 5: mindgames

Youngjae walked causally through the halls, bag hanging loosely off his left shoulder. Headphones wrapped around his head, playing Psycho Killer by Talking Heads. He enjoyed blocking out the world, loosing himself in his music. The music was so loud, drowning his thoughts in it.

People bump into him, shoulders brushing past his as they walk by. He skips down the school steps, not noticing the heavy footsteps that followed. He was unaware that someone might be following him, the crowd around allowing them to bleed in.

Youngjae wasn't focused on the what was going on around him, not until he slams into someone, causing them both to tumble to the ground.

"Ah-shit!" Youngjae crushes to the ground, his back slamming against the hard ground.

He blinks his eyes, finding himself staring up into a man's dark eyes. His hair was a bright yellow, almost piercing in colour. The man looked wide eyed at him, refusing to get off him.

"Umm do you mind?" Youngjae asked, trying to push him off.

The man quickly scrambled off him, looking like a deer in headlights, utterly terrified. It was if he'd just seen a ghost, someone he shouldn't have. Youngjae slowly gets to his feet, wiping his pants down. He pulls his headphones down around his neck.

"Sorry dude I didn't see you." He fixed his bag over his shoulder, staring at the guy who looked frightened to be near him.

He doesn't speak, just stands the corking at him with his eyes wide. Youngjae begins to feel weary, eyebrow raised, standing awkwardly waiting for a reply. He goes to speak again, but the guy sputters out a weak response.

"H-how..how are you ali-?" Youngjae was completely lost, not understanding what he was talking about.

"Excuse me?" The man shakes his head, mouth hanging open before he steps back, turning away and sprinting off.

"Weirdo." Youngjae shook his head, not really paying to much attention to the guy he shrugs him off, walking in the direction of his house.

The man from the sidelines watched everything, taking note of the yellows haired reaction. He looked scared, like he might've known who he was; what he was. He continues to follow Youngjae, reminding to keep his distance.

He studied Youngjae, noticing how he straits around without a care, headphones on so he can block out the world. He appears like he enjoys getting lost in his music, doesn't like looking at the world, the people or the streets. He knew he must be a young vampire, just by the way he acts. He's still got that young spunk, way he speaks, how he dresses screams a newly turned.

Youngjae walks up his street, nearing his house which he shared with four other vampires. But in the back of his mind he could sense something, feel something or someone's prescience behind him. As he heads up his driveway his senses heighten, he quickly snaps his head back.

He frowns when nothing's there, yet he couldn't shake the feeling. He narrows his eyes, trying to use his vampire vision to see anything the human eye couldn't. There was no one there, he was alone.

"Whatever." Youngjae shrugs, going to open his front door.

Bambam hides behind a car, making sure to stay quiet as a mouse. He couldn't let himself get caught, not when he hadn't done his job. There were vampires out there, and he needed to slay them. He checks that it was clear, seeing Youngjae slip into his house. He stands up, watching the house, taking in the ancient decor of it. It was old, Victorian very stereotypical house for vampires to live.

Bambam eyes it up, taking it in. He knew what he had to do, there were more in there, there had to be.

Youngjae wonders into the house, it was freezing inside as vampires didn't do well in the heat. He drops his bag in the hall, strolling further inside.

"Hey JaeJae how was school?" Jinyoung greets him as he walks in, he was sitting by the couch with a newspaper in hand.

"Hi Jinyoung, it was fine." Youngjae slumps on the free couch, huffing as he stretched his muscles.

"Did you have your blood? You know you need to eat every few hours or you'll turn rogue." Jinyoung spoke like a mother, Youngjae just nods waving him off.

"Yes yes, I had my blood." Youngjae wasn't going to mentioned the part where he almost lost control because he went to long without eating.

Jinyoung leans back in relief, Youngjae has been known to stray from the rules. Being a young vampire was difficult, they hadn't learnt all the rules on how to survive.

"Youngjae you're back good. Let's go do some training." Jaebum steps in from outside, Youngjae twitches his head to the side.

Youngjae gets up from his seat, he glances to Jinyoung who gives him a small smile. He follows Jaebum down the hall, into a dark room with velvety walls. It's where Jaebum brought him the very first time he arrived. He would forever remember that night, the pain resonated with him in so many ways. No matter how many times he'd try to forget. The memory would come back hard and stronger than ever before.

"I want you to try read my thoughts, you can do better Youngjae." Jaebum flicks his coat back as he sat down on the luscious chair which cantered the room.

Youngjae ruffles his thick hair, sucking in a breath since these little exercises or training sessions usually wore him out. The mind games he'd be forced to play would cause this pulsating aching through his head. Like a hammer constantly banging into his brain at full force.

He widens his footing, standing firm while he stared Jaebum down. His eyes began to turn this pure black; the colour of death itself. He tenses his jaw, focusing only on Jaebum-like nothing else mattered in the world. His mind started hearing snippets, voices that weren't his own.

Can you hear me Youngjae? Hear my devilish thoughts racing through your mind.

Youngjae shakes his head slightly, trying to stay focused but finding it difficult due to the severity of thoughts Jaebum was alluding.

It felt like his mind was being crushed by his, his own thoughts being lost in the haze of his. He clenched his fists, needing to remind himself-keep him grounded that he was still Youngjae.

Jaebum-Jaebum can we stop? It hurts.

He voiced his pained plea, staring at Jaebum as he spoke through his mind.

But you've only started. Don't you want to be able to do this freely? Whenever you want?

Youngjae groans out of frustration and pain, his head throbbed. He can only nod his head, delving deeper so he could hear more voices. Those of who weren't in the room.

Why doesn't anyone clean up after themselves? I'm not the bloody maid.

That was Jinyoung, he could hear his thoughts from the next room.

I need to go to the gym more, I think I'm getting fat.

Jackson. He must have been in his room, staring in the mirror.

There's vampires in there, I just know it. I need to tell father.

"Shit!" Youngjae snapped from his trance, gripping the sides of his head.

"What? What is it?" Jaebum stood up, frowning at the appearance of Youngjae hunched over holding his head.

Youngjae shook his head, he himself didn't know what he just heard. He didn't recognise the voice, hadn't heard it anywhere before. But it must've been close, close enough for him to hear. He snapped his head up, running to the window to see if he could see anyone hanging around. Stalking the house.

His eyes dart back and forth, finding no one suspicious lurking outside.

"What's wrong Youngjae?" Jaebum found his action to be peculiar, Youngjae turned to him.

"I heard someone, heard someone say there were vampires here. That they needed to tell their father. I think they were near the house. They know Jaebum! They know we're vampires." Youngjae hadn't felt scared this scared in a long time, he knew the implement the discovery of them would hold. They'd be hunted, tortured then ultimately killed.

"Get away from the window now!" Jaebum orders him, he quickly shut all the curtains and locked all the windows.

They had to find out who it was, who Youngjae heard and stop him before he told anyone else what they were.
