R A V E N
I had gotten up early today. Although I knew I had too, I just got up as if there was something amazing waiting for me today. I couldn't be sure since I didn't know what the day would bring. Ever since I met Blaire, there was just something about her.... I knew Charles would dislike the fact that we were worked together but I'm a grown woman. I can and will make my own decisions. I simply did my hair and got ready. Of course this wasn't a date or special occasion but I now was a teachers aid so this sorta counts as one...
Charles was still asleep. I peered through his door and shut it quietly. I quickly got ready, ate a quick breakfast and left leaving a note for Charles. I headed towards the school. When I had gotten there Blaire was already there. She had set up the whole classrooms.
Blaire greeted me with a smile, "Good morning Raven. How did you sleep?"
I smiled at Blaire before saying, "Alright. I've slept better but I'm here today. "
Blaire smiled and laughed before saying, "Come on. We've got a few things to do before class starts today."
I nodded obeying Blaire every order. I helped her with her books and I even got the chance to neatly write my name on the whiteboard. I smiled at my handy name writing. I turned towards the clock. It was 7:30. I just thought of Charles. He usually got up around this time. I started thinking about my mutation again. Ugh what would I do? What would the future hold for me? For us? For mutants?
"Raven? Hello? Earth to Raven?" Blaire said waving her hand in my face.
I looked at her before saying, "Sorry. I was just thinking..."
Blaire smiled before saying, "That's ok. We should get going on today's lesson. We will be discussing heredity. "
I looked at her, "Heredity.... "
Blaire laughed, "Its ok Raven. It's very interesting. Especially in the study of mutants..."
My ears perked up, "Mutations? Like mutants?"
I wanted to sound interested as I stared at her, "Precisely Raven. Mutants are so amazing. I would love to meet one. Such extraordinary beings. They are special."
I looked at her, special? Mutants are special?
I mumbled, "You think that mutants are special?"
She nodded, "Of course. Why not? Those people have amazing gifts Raven. Anyways, we should get the supplies come along."
I nodded before shuffling along to Blaire's pace. I followed Blaire to a storage room before taking out a few new books and supplies for today's lesson. I found it interesting how much Blaire liked to talk about science and mutants. I actually felt like I fitted in with her in a sense. Maybe there are people who wouldn't mind living or working or knowing that their friend is a mutant.
"Now Raven you will get to know the students and play along with the lesson today. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be my right hand girl. It is truly nice to have someone to help around the class." Blaire said smiling.
I half smiled, "You're welcome. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. "
Blaire smiled, "Great. Let's review the lesson plan before the students come in."
I nodded and watched as Blaire review the important points briefly. She spoke clearly and passionately about the matter. I didn't bother at all. She was a nerd but I liked her. It was refreshing to meet someone out of the ordinary. She truly wasn't what I had expected.
I did my best to keep at Blaire's pace although she did modify the lesson plans to fit my sort of knowledge on the subject. After we had finished our review and preparing the classroom a few more teachers enter the room.
"Hello Blaire. Is this your new aid?" The woman said.
She nodded, "Annabelle this is Raven. She is my assistant and teacher aid."
Annabelle smiled, "How do you do?"
I looked at her and immediately knew she was a goody two shoes and yet she was a pretty face.
"Welcome to the club." Rosie exclaimed.
I knew her already because Charles had referred to her before. I only smiled casually before Charles became a subject that Annabelle solely wanted to talk about.
"Have you seen Charles yet Rosie?" Annabelle asked with a genuine interest in him.
I only rolled my eyes for which I knew Charles wasn't that interested in her. Charles wanted Blaire. That was that. It was something about Blaire that attracted Charles more than any woman I've seen.
Rosie simply replied, "Not yet but he is alway punctual."
Annabelle chirped, "I know. It is attractive in a man. "
I sighed, "Give me a break ."
Annabelle only looked at me with anger and slight sense of disgust, "What did you say?"
"Not everything a man does right doesn't makes him attractive." I said with an ease.
Blaire had been reading her book with not a care in the world before I looked at them, "What is it that makes you so attracted to Charles? Is it his hair? Or eyes? Or was it the way that he speaks that got to you?"
Annabelle seemed silence before Rosie asked, "You seem to know him well. An ex of yours?"
Blaire simply stood up before saying, "Ladies, ladies, please. Stop fighting over a man. He's just a womanizer looking for something to kill the time. Now go on. Class starts soon. We can discuss men later. "
Rosie sighed before snickering something to Annabelle and then leaving.
I looked at Blaire, "Is this what you discuss all the time?"
Blaire replied, "Why do you think I read? They are infatuated with the womanizer two doors down. I may not know a whole lot about men but I do know that I rather get to know them better than start off doing something completely irresponsible. Heuristically speaking, that is not a good short cut to finding love."
I furrowed my brow, "It alright. I know a few things about men and Charles..."
Blaire looked at me before saying, "Don't tell me you dated him?"
I shrugged, "No. Don't worry Blaire. Me and Charles were never together. "
Blaire raised a brow, "Alright Raven. I'll take your word for it."
I nodded before thinking: Should I tell her that Charles is my brother?
Blaire suddenly asked, "Do you have any family here Raven?"
I double blinked before sulking. Why'd she have to have that?
"I do. I just have my brother.... " I said reluctant to smile during that sentence.
"Oh that's great. Someone to keep you company. " Blaire smiled.
"Yeah... he's one of a kind Blaire. " I chuckled nervously.
"What about you?" I said desperately changing the subject.
"No. I don't have family here. It must be nice to have a brother here with you. Family is great. " She uttered.
"Yeah it's nice most of the time.." I trailed off.
Phew, I would break a sweat if both of them found out. Charles would be so angry with me while Blaire would just be baffled we were even related... I would keep it a secret until I couldn't possibly hold it in anymore... it a matter of who finds out first or how long I can deal with this lie.
C H A R L E S
I awoke to see nor hear anything but silence. Silence meaning there was no Raven. It was quite peaceful yet euphoric. I smiled to myself and began looking for Raven. She was not in her room or anywhere. I freshened up and began getting dressed. I noticed Raven had left a note assuring me she was fine and at school. I would see her there. I was quite proud of Raven. She had finally gotten out of her slump and back to work. I slipped over a sky blue sweater and fixed the collar of my dress shirt underneath.
I went towards the kitchen and began brewing my tea. There was nothing like tea in the morning. A bit of serenity and a bit of peace. For me, tea was quite calming and quite relieving. I felt the hot tea touch my lips and go down my throat. I breathed in and out. The tea was a bit sour. I levitated the jar of golden honey and granulated cubed sugar. I added one spoonful of honey and a cube of sugar. Mix it together and you get a delightful cup of tea.
After such a nice dainty cup of tea, I strolled myself over to the campus. I walked towards the halls and prepared my lesson.
"Today we will be assessing and diagnosing the condition of a human body. The human body is a complex system of nerves, muscles and intricate systems working with one another to keep us working and functioning properly. The human body is-" I was cut of by a familiar voice.
"Is made up of tissues, body systems, organs, and cells that work in conjunction with each other to achieve a state of regularity between the host and its body. It's in the state of homeostasis at all times. " She said.
I turned to see Raven standing by the door.
"Raven! " I said getting up and greeting her.
"Very nice insight on to quite a complex field in science." I complimented.
Raven smiled before replying, "I'm a quick learner."
I chuckled before saying, "That you are."
Raven looked at my white board and note before saying, "Is this your lesson plan?"
I nodded, "Yes it is. What are you doing here Raven? Shouldn't you be working?"
Raven corrected me, "I'm assisting Charles. I can't believe those words came out of my mouth. I sound like you... "
She cringed before I said offensively, "Raven, sounding like me isn't bad."
Raven smirked, "Your an old fart Charles... I'm not ready to be an old fart yet."
I looked at her before saying, "Well it's good to have experience. Don't do anything irresponsible or stupid around campus. You know you have to be on your-"
"Best behavior. We've been through this Charles. I'm not a child. Besides I have good company. My partner in crime is full of surprises..." Raven trailed off and smiled.
It was nice to see Raven feel somewhat comfortable. She had new friends. Maybe they were good influences. I would hope so. Maybe this is just what Raven needed. A good influence.
"How about we meet for lunch?" I said.
Raven smiled, "Sorry Charles. I have plans already... how about dinner? We can meet after class ends."
I nodded, "Alright Raven. We will meet here."
Raven winked, "Sounds good. You be good Charles. I'll see you later. "
I waved at Raven, "I'll see you later Raven. Be good. "
Raven sighed, "I know Charles. I'm not five. "
I turned my back towards the door and headed towards my desk because class was just about to begin. The day went by fast. It sped by quite quickly. I didn't feel it at all today. The time seemed like a breeze that was just passing by. I was excited to talk with Raven over dinner. It would be great to be able to do so. Raven was sassy and very aggressive but she was caring and compassionate girl who was bursting with joy. I was proud to call her my sister.
I finished packing up my notes and books before putting my things in my satchel. I wrapped it over my shoulder where it slung over my shoulder. I awaited in the classroom for 15 minutes and Raven was no where to be found. Had she forgotten? My eyes traveled through the halls. Back and forth they transpired. Until they locked onto Raven. There she was. She stood there at the end of the hallway. I ran up to her. I felt like a little boy.
"Raven. Raven, is everything alright?" I said catching her attention.
She turned around to meet me, her face a sunny spot of emotion. She looked at me before saying, "Charles!?!? What are you doing here!!!?"
I stood at her aback, "What?"
"Charles go back to your room. I'll meet you there just let me finish up." Raven said her eyes traveling from the room to my face.
"Huh?" I said.
Raven shooed me away and I ended up waiting another 15 minutes in my room. Suddenly I heard Raven. Her giggled echoed the hall and my classroom. I immediately followed the voice. I couldn't wait much longer. My hunger caused my patience to become somewhat impulsive. I didn't know whether I was excited or just hungry and impatient. Her voice suddenly became louder as I passed through the hallway and classrooms. I stopped three doors down. I had stopped in front of Blaire's classroom but I didn't dare step in. I peered through the door.
"Charles!?!?" I heard Raven exclaim.
"Raven. I came to help. Are we ready to go?" I said before Raven shhed me, "You can't be here."
She forced me out of the classroom before I said, "Raven, what is going on?"
Raven uttered nervously, "Nothing!?!?"
I heard a voice say, "Raven you did great! Thanks for helping me with these books."
I knew that voice. I knew it all too well.
"Raven is that?" I was cut off, "No. Go now!"
Raven blocked me before I got through. The door to the next classroom was open. I sighed.
"Raven I don't like it when you hide things from me. For I second I thought that was Blaire..." I chuckled in a reluctant tone.
"Raven, can you lend me a hand?" I heard a muffled voice say.
Raven whispered shouted, "Stay here."
She had been that bossy as to order me to stay put. That was usually what I did. We had just reversed roles. Now I know how Raven felt when I told her to stay put... Nonetheless, I followed her into the other classroom where she seemed to be helping someone. I knew this classroom. I looked at the board. Raven had written her name. Ms. Dalkholme. I then read the board some more. There were announcements and assignments. I read, "Turn in assignments to Ms. Dalkholme or Professor Pyry. " I looked at the last word. Pyry... as in Blaire Pyry!
"Raven?" I called hesitation and anger in my voice.
Raven came out before saying, "Charles.... hey... what are you doing here?"
I heard a familiar voice call out, "Raven? Is someone there? Who is it- Oh."
Blaire walked out. She was stunning as always. That pencil skirt was far more attractive than I wanted it to be at the moment. I could not focus on how it hugged her perfectly.
"Professor Xavier? What are you doing here? Are you spying on me or are you trying to leave another note in my book?" She accused.
I looked at her before saying, "I thought we had agreed that we were to start on a clean slate?"
"We did. But that still doesn't explain why your here. A simple question cannot denounce the actions that I have seen from you." She stated.
"I wasn't spying. I just had found you on the bench that day. I didn't want to startle you. As for the note I just wanted to have another chance. What is a man to do when he's met a woman like you?" I said unaware that it sounded flirtatious.
She looked at me before looking away. Was she blushing?
She looked at me before glaring, "Then what are you doing here? Oh, wait. You're here because of Raven! Don't you dare try to snatch her away and blind her in false love."
She stood in front of Raven, "You womanizer. Get the hell out of here. I won't let you torment my teachers aid and friend. I will not let you break her-"
Raven stopped Blaire from literally exploiting me with her words, "Blaire... calm down. I haven't been completely honest with you..."
Blaire stopped dead in her tracks, "What?"
I cleared my throat, "Remember I told you I had a brother..."
Blaire looked at Charles before staring at me, "No.....He is your-"
I nodded, "I'm Charles sister. I'm sorry I didn't tell you.... you both deserve an explanation.."
I looked at Raven, "You didn't tell me. How could you?"
Blaire simply stayed quiet.
"Blaire are you ok?" I said nervously.
She blinked before saying, "I'm gonna need some coffee..."
Blaire headed towards her desk, "Let me get this straight. You are related to him. You're related to a womanizer...."
I frowned before saying, "Please don't use that word on me love."
Blaire looked at me, "Don't push it. It baffles me how you two are totally different people who are related.
Raven uttered, "I'm adopted..."
Blaire replied, "Doesn't matter Raven. You're still related. "
Raven slumped down before Blaire's eyes filled with compassion, "Its ok Raven. I forgive you. Please don't ever leave a detail like that-"
She gestured towards me.
"Again." She finished.
I muttered, "Raven you really did it this time.."
Blaire turned towards me, "I guess I should apologize although I don't take back calling you a womanizer... "
I smiled before saying, "I need to come up with something in order to cancel out what you call me."
"It's the truth Charles. I'm an honest person. Why is it that I'm always apologizing to you? " She said half smiling.
She looked so cute when she did that. Why did that suddenly turn me on?
"You'll have to make it up to me." I said before Raven elbowed me.
I read Raven's mind, "Stop flirting with my boss."
"I don't think I can Raven. It's rude to ask the impossible from me, a simple man." I smirked.
Blaire chuckled sarcastically, "Is that so?"
I stepped closer, " Try me. "
Blaire took of her glasses, " I have. I said I would give you a clean slate-"
"And I promised a tour. You would still have to make it up to me Blaire. Apologies only go so far..." I looked her straight in the eye.
She looked at Raven, "He's serious about this?"
Raven looked more annoyed than anything before replying, "Sadly he is..."
Blaire simply rubbed her forehead, "I have only apologized twice. I don't think I owe you the pleasure of-"
I cut her off, "Pleasure of having the benefit of the doubt?"
Blaire scoffed, "How'd you know that? Its like you read my mind... "
I smirked, "You can't just leave the brother of your teachers aid hanging Blaire."
Blaire's cheeks turned red, frustration filling her.
"You're way too overconfident when trying to comply with a female." Blaire said putting her glasses on her face.
Blaire sat on her desk, "Comply with you're end of the bargain first Xavier. You do realize that your seduction technique isn't working. In any case, I'm a person of my word."
I nodded, "So am I? How about dinner after the tour?"
She looked at me before smiling, "You are persistent. "
Raven spoke up, "My god you two. Please stop. "
I looked at Raven before feeling slightly embarrassed. Had I gone too far?
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have imposed such a proposition." I said realising what I had done.
I just asked Blaire on a date.... I didn't want to come off too strong.
I heard a laugh. It was Blaire who was laughing.
"Well there's no turning back now. You propose a tour and now dinner? Hold your horses. We are going to be civilized normal people, deal?" She said looking straight at me.
I nodded, "I agree. However, I believe you owe me the benefit of the doubt and join us for dinner after our tour."
Blaire almost spit her coffee out, "What?"
I added, "At least do Raven the honor. "
Raven looked at me, "Don't drag me into this."
Blaire swallowed, "I never agreed to dinner."
I replied, "We will never get past our differences if we always have misconceptions while conversing."
Blaire double blinked, "But. "
I smirked, "I never thought you be the kind of person to procrastinate."
Blaire glared at me, "Fine we'll do it this way. "
She pulled out a coin out of her pocket, "Heads or tails?"
She really doesn't like me, does she?
"You aren't acting professional, you're overconfident, and your smile is bothering me." Blaire said looking away.
I smirked, have I succeeded in making her feel vulnerable?
"Call her in the air. Whoever wins gets to decide. I rather not bargain with a penny but I know that a womanizer can persuade very well. I'm not afraid of you and you do not intimidate me." Blaire said as she flipped the copper penny.
"Heads"
"Tails"
It fell on Blaire's hand and landed on her wrist. We both peered at the penny.
"I win." I stated.
Blaire seemed slightly at ease, "So you have. Don't get any ideas Xavier. I'm not afraid to slap some sense into you again."
I chuckled, "That won't be necessary. Thank you for complying."
Blaire simply looked at Raven, "I'll go on one condition."
I froze, "Yes?"
"Raven comes with." Blaire smirked.
I looked at Raven before saying, "Deal."
