14. Angie
"Do you think she's okay?" I asked worriedly. Maurice only shrugged. Typical.
The whole situation was bizarre. The Howler said that she ran away from him mid-conversation. He said that it looked like she was chasing after someone, but there was no one there. Videos of her fall were circulating, and it looked like her superhero career had ended as soon as it began.
I couldn't help but feel guilty. I practically forced her into it by making the suit.
"Angie..." Maurice said cautiously. "You've done so much for her."
I gave him a knowing nod. I let her into my home without knowing anything about her. And honestly, I still don't know much about her, even though I have a million eyes and ears through the ghosts and literal mind reading abilities.
But I hadn't been exactly forthcoming with her either.
"I'm going to go check on her. Is that creepy? No, I'm going to check on her."
It might be a little creepy. I felt the thought in the back of my mind, but I was already at the bathroom's door. I gave a tentative knock.
"Arya?" I called softly. And then I heard a thud. My body filled with fret as I called more loudly. "ARYA?"
No response. I kicked down the door with my good leg and waved the steam out of my face. And there she was — crumpled on the floor, with the water sliding off of her naked body.
I ran to her. "Arya, what happened? Are you okay?"
Her eyes were glazed over. She clearly hadn't heard me. But she kept muttering the same thing over and over, like she was rebooting.
"Taj, Taj, Taj..."
