Jailbreak

"You know that young lady?" Sara asked.

Onyx stared as if he was in a trance, "Yes, I think I do. Can I go see her."

"Well, you got lucky today, since you see someone you may remember, I'll do the exam a little later to look at that young lady's chart and run some information into the system." Sara said.

Onyx walked quickly to the brown haired girl and tapped her shoulder. She turned around slowly. She was short with sugar brown skin and light brown eyes.

"Yes?" She questioned.

"Do you remember me? Zuri?"

Her eyes became wide, "You know me?"

"Yes, Zuri, it's me, Onyx," he whispered.

"No, the Onyx I know has black...." She trailed off. She took a deep breath, "So why are you here, Onyx?"

"My name is Pierre around here, to keep suspicion to a minimum."

"I understand, but why are you here? Did you get infected?" She asked with much concern.

"No, I came here to get you and my friend." Onyx embraced Zuri. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I was just unsure if I was ever going to leave this awful place." Zuri buried her face into Onyx's chest.

"Awful, how so?"

She pulled away slightly to answer him, "This place is a Shadow magnet."

A split second later, Sara walked to the pair, "So you know each other?"

"Yes, we were good friends," Onyx answered.

"Well, this changes some things, but you are still going to need your exam. Pierre follow me, you can talk to Zuri later." Sara said as she pulled Onyx away.

Zuri looked concerned, but mustered a smile and waved Onyx goodbye.

He walked with Sara to the room they visited earlier, when a flash of a long light brown braid caught his attention. He was supposed to get Bliss too!

"Wait!"

"Yes?"

"I know her too," Onyx exclaimed.

"Well, she can wait until after your exam, we are already run background information on Zuri to make updates to areas of the city most affected by Shadows." Sara explained. She led Onyx into one of the metal rooms.

In the waiting room, Song waited patiently. She had been sitting for nearly half an hour gathering her thoughts. Song rose from her seat and asked Tara if she could go to the bathroom. Tara had to go to the phone for a moment, but when she returned she showed her which door was the bathroom. Song turned the light on before closing and locking the door.

Song opened her sack and pulled a book from it, she grabbed it from Tara's desk when she wasn't looking. A Night of Shadows, was the title. While she waited for the opportune moment, Song read up on The Shadows.

Onyx had just finished his exam and Sara let him know that he was free to go and he would get a report on his condition and start treatment tomorrow. It was just like a regular physical, Onyx was hoping that Song would be able to break them out before tomorrow. As he left his exam room, he thought about how happy he was that Zuri was alright. She was still as beautiful as ever. But he had to focus so he could find Bliss and be in position when Song was ready. Song would be furious with him, if he didn't find Bliss especially since he never told her about Zuri. Walking around, some of the people seemed so lifeless, while others looked hopeless. One thing was clear, not everyone here was infected. They may have been in the beginning, but they aren't anymore. Why won't the Capital release the patients that have recovered? Which made him wonder what type of treatment they were receiving.

"Pierre!" Zuri was running to him.

"Zuri, what's wrong?"

"Did you cover your tattoo?" She said in a hushed whisper.

"No, why?"

"You're in trouble now, the tattoo is going to be noted in your exam and they're going to that you're from you know where. The same happened to me, that's why they won't let me leave. They want to lock up as many Shadowhunters as they can here, if they hold us long enough the hunter's start going crazy. The isolation is what gets them because they can't hunt anymore," Zuri explained.

"Damn, I didn't know that."

"So, what was your plan for leaving? Do you have a plan?"

Onyx was about to answer, when there was a loud blaring noise, like a siren. There was red flashing lights and panic in the air.

Onyx looked at Zuri and said, "Stay near me."

Sara was looking frantic, "Everyone stay calm and leave the facility in an orderly manner."

The next moment Onyx could smell smoke filling the facility. He kept checking to make sure that Zuri was by his side.

"Listen, the moment we walk outside, we make a break for it." Onyx said to her.

"Okay," she replied and stayed close to him.

The moment they came outside, discreetly the two started moving away from the group. Onyx was trying to search the crowd for Bliss, but the long light brown braid was nowhere to be seen.

"Who are you looking for? Shouldn't we start pulling away?" Zuri asked in a hushed voice.

"I'm looking for a friend and we can't pull away yet, not with Sara right there," he replied.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed his shoulder, he turned around it was Song.

"Walk backwards," was all she said.

"Song, there was a fire in the building," Onyx protested.

"Walks backwards to put some distance between you and The Shadow." She repeated.

"The Shadow?" Zuri questioned softly.

In an instant, Song was gone. Zuri and Onyx complied with Song's instructions and walked backwards. Surprisingly, no one was noticing that they were moving in the opposite direction in all the chaos. The maneuver was impressive. Soon enough, they were near the exit door and Onyx saw Bliss. She turned away from him quickly. Song suddenly appeared saying, "Hurry back inside."

"Wait, there was a fire just a moment ago," Onyx stated.

"Well, we can leave them." Bliss told Song.

"I'll explain later," Song told Onyx and the four of them ran through the underground treatment facility. Once up the spiral stairs, they hurried through the front door.

"We're going back the way we came. Onyx, take the lead," Song said.

"Alright, we are going to have to maintain a jog so they don't catch up." Onyx replied.

"You won't have to worry about that, I destroyed all three of your files after I used the smoke bomb." Song explained.

"Song what happened back there?" Bliss asked as they started jogging.

"Well, I realized there was an underground passageway when I was tapping my foot on the floor, there was an echo which was unusual, that gave the underground part away. Now, I realized that the workers were clone-like when I observed how everyone had the exact same shade of eyes, a very soft blue, that is nearly impossible for everyone at in one workplace to have the same eye shade. Also, besides the little window in the door, there weren't anymore. Odd because that seems like that would be a fire hazard. If there was a fire the building did not have windows for a quick escape. I just played on the building's weakness. But the interesting part was the books on Tara's desk. She had a book called A Night of Shadows. A book that no one has ever heard of, that raised a flag with me," Song explained.

"Did you get the book? Maybe, it was was referring to the Shadows of the Second Dimension." Zuri suggested.

"I have the book."

"How did you get that?" Bliss asked.

"I grabbed it while Tara was distracted by a phone call. See, I told her that I was a fidgeter and she was talking to me to keep me from tapping on the floor. From there, I told her that I like to read and asked if she had any reading material. Now, for her desk to be cluttered with books, her response to me was no. That's when I realized that the books were off limits. I decided to use the smoke bomb in the bathroom, knowing that they would all panic, not wanting to lose all of their precious human research in a fire."

"Well, Song that makes sense, but did you start reading the book?" Bliss asked.

"No, not yet."

"Well, let's hurry and get back," Onyx suggested as they slowed their pace.

"That's fine, but Onyx when were you going to introduce us to your friend?" Bliss asked.

Everyone slowed to a walk, and a thick silence plagued the air as Zuri looked from Song and Bliss to Onyx. She cleared her throat, "I'm Zuri and it's really nice to meet you."

"I'm Bliss." She said in a standoffish manner, Song nudged her shoulder.

"Valor, Song Valor."

"Alright, well that's it for the introduction." Onyx sighed.

Song dropped back behind everyone, trying to lose herself in her thoughts. Bliss was shortly by her side again, "Don't let this bug you Song. Some things just don't change, Onyx has always been a man riddled with secrets. You need to let him know once and for all, that trust is not free, it has to be earned."

"He'll know soon enough." Song replied.
