From Hunter to Hunter
Creed had just walked Song back to her house and began to head to the SSS. The idea of using the Shadowhunter weapons was not nearly as dangerous as using the Master Light Elements. Song had wonderful ideas, but sometimes it worried Creed that she had little fear for danger. That's why he knew he had to be her balance. She would run into a collapsing building and accept death instead of trying to save the life let among the ruins.
But the real question that plagued his mind was would this force be enough. Honestly, he did not like the idea of fighting Onyx's parents, something seemed off about the entire situation. Creed was deep in thought, when it hit him: professional Shadowhunters, who are surrounded by Shadows day and night, all of a sudden becoming infected. Something didn't seem right. His hunter instincts were telling him. He could feel his amulet pulsating, his hunter instincts are trying to tell him something. He had to make a move. Lost in thought, he quickly arrived to the tunnel entrance of the SSS and checked in. He was met by the leaders of the SSS that briefed him a couple nights ago.
"Did you find anything out?" The woman asked Creed.
"No, not yet, but something seems off. Unfortunately, I can't put a name on it," he replied.
"Yes, my hunter instincts seem to be telling me something too, but oddly enough I don't know what it is," the old man acknowledged.
"Why- no how do two professional Shadowhunters who guard the Gate and fight Shadows constantly, get infected? That just is not making sense!" Creed exclaimed. "It's almost like they allowed it to happen," he whispered.
"No, they wouldn't, Creed you should know better," the woman sharply replied before walking away with the old man. The pair was clearly frustrated. So he decided to drop the topic and focus his attention to the problem.
Creed decided to clear his head and walk through the Memorial of Fallen Hunters, for a sense of peace. He took his time and paid respect to the fallen hunters. He sighed, but as he looked closely, he saw amulets, pictures of the fallen, tombstone, but no Shadowhunter weapons. His hunter instincts went into overdrive. And he immediately left and decided to go to Song's house.
It didn't take long for him to reach her house and he began knocking on the door frantically.
"First thing, why are you trying to break down the door? Two, I didn't expect you to be back so soon." Song said.
"Well, my hunter instincts are going crazy. How did the Guardians of the Gate become infected? They work with Shadows all the time!" Creed walked inside.
"Creed, calm down. Look at yourself, you're all worked up," Song looked into his wide eyes. She continued, "Well, everyone makes mistakes, so what are you saying?"
"Song, I don't know, but something seems off, I don't know what it is. I don't know why it is, but something is wrong. I feel it, my hunter instincts are running a million miles an hour. I sound stupid don't I?" He asked, sighing.
"No, not yet all least," she smiled lightly as she put her hand on his shoulder. "Okay, what are all the flags, everything that makes you think that something is off."
Creed took a deep breath, "Alright, first thing is Capital Q. They left the Gate to make a raid, that was deemed unsuccessful, leading to them being outlawed. Why would they leave the Gate, knowing that it was weak? Both of them? Secondly, how do you get infected on your job, like that? They have been the Guardians for over twenty years, they should know the tricks in the book! Third, and I haven't told anyone this yet, but today at the SSS, most of the Shadowhunter weapons that reside in the Memorial are gone. It's like someone is on the same page as us. Now is that someone on our side or not? That's the real question."
"What! We were going to use those," Song was surprised.
"Yeah, I know. Did you ask your dad about your mother having a Shadowhunter weapon?"
"No need to, I found it on my own."
"What was it!" Creed asked excitedly as he plopped onto the couch.
"A box of throwing knives," Song went into the kitchen and returned with a cherry wood box in her hands. She sat beside Creed on the couch and opened it.
"They're beautiful." He whispered as he picked one up, it was stainless steel with gold tips. There were twelve of them in varying shapes and sizes. "How did you find them?"
"They were in my parents closet. I had seen that box several times and it was usually collecting dust. The only things my father doesn't touch in that closet are things that belonged to my mother. Therefore, it wasn't that hard to find." She looked down before placing the box in Creed's hands. "From one hunter to another hunter," she whispered.
"Song, I can't," Creed hesitated.
"No, you're the professional hunter, so please, for my mother, take it."
"I can't not only because you may need to use them, but Family weapons only work when passed to their descendants or through ritual. Besides, I have my father's sword and if anything were to happen, you need to have something to defend yourself. If your mother was here today, she would be concerned for your safety, one hunter to another hunter." He smiled at her, gently pushing the box back towards her.
"Alright, I'll keep it, but what about your father's sword? Do you still have it?"
"Yeah, I have it in a safe spot," he replied.
"Do you think whoever stole the other weapons will come to steal ours?" Song inquired.
"Maybe, I can't be sure, either way I'm staying here tonight," he confirmed. Song started laughing at his comment. Confused, Creed asked, "What?"
"You're talking like my dad and I can't defend ourselves. We are quite capable of handling ourselves, I mean my dad is a security officer, and I may not be a professional hunter, but I think I'll be okay."
"Is that why he has a gaze that can kill? Cause I mean the way he looks you in the eye is intense." Creed joked.
"Either way, we'll be fine."
"I never underestimated you or your father's abilities, I'm just making sure that if you need me I'm available. Is that a crime, to be so committed?"
"Of course not," Song embraced Creed as the front door flew open.
"So, I guess I'll come again another day," Kai smiled, but laughing.
"Well, intrusion is a crime, let me call my father so you can be arrested promptly," Song laughed.
Creed chuckled, "Look, we were just talking."
"That's what they all say," Kai muttered, Creed glared at him causing Kai to respond, "okay okay, I was joking."
"So what do you want, Kai? Has something happened?" Song asked.
"Well, I seem to always be the bearer of bad new. But I saw the 'Guardians' again, doing something strange..."
"Okay what was it Kai?" Creed inquired walking towards him quickly. That pulsing feeling in his amulet returned, heightening his hunter instincts.
"They had swords, daggers, weapons of all sorts, and I'm looking like what the hell! Believe me I got out of the way quickly and quietly. Are they planning a massacre or something?"
"I have to go, now!" Creed got up and headed for the door.
"Creed, where are you going? I thought you were staying? Do you think that the Guardians have the Shadowhunter weapons ? Are they stealing them?" Song began hammering him with questions.
"Yes, but the wild thing is how come no one saw them come in and the more puzzling thing is why didn't anyone see them leave?" Creed said, before continuing, "I know something is wrong, hella wrong, and I have to find out what it is."
"Then do what you must, but stay safe. If the SSS are keeping secrets from you intentionally, that could put you in danger too," Song said.
Creed looked her in the eye and replied, "Thank you." Before walking out of the door he paused, "I promise I'll be careful."
The door closed quietly. "Well, you can't stop a man on a mission, you know," Kai joked as he joined Song on the couch. He continued, "So what are we going to do?" When Song didn't say anything, Kai called her, "Song?"
"Did you see that look in his eyes? I've never seen that before. I'm starting to feel something weird but I don't know what it is."
"Yeah, he did seem strange, not an infected strange, but like he's... I don't know, but he seems a lot more aggressive. I've never seen that side of him either. But, maybe it's a hunter thing. Free has been acting a little funny too. And actually she said the same thing that you just said about feeling like something is strange and stuff."
"Well, Creed kept saying his hunter instincts were trying to tell him something. We are going to do what we do best, come up with the perfect plan and execute it." Song answered.
"And I have some grand ideas!" Kai grin as he wiggled his eyebrows as the pair began to develop an elaborate plan, just like old times.
"Okay, I'm ready to hear them!"
Creed had returned to the SSS when someone called his name, he turned around and saw that another young man about his age was walking towards him. Dark brown eyes and skin with wavy jet black hair with a few wisps of hair falling in front of his left eye.
"Creed?"
"Man, I've been trying to catch up with you," the pair shook hair before Creed continued, "I haven't seen you in a while."
"Yeah, I know, I had been in the damned Capital! A few days ago, this young woman set a brilliant trap that literally made the Shadows have to let us go. They were able to catch some, but man, I ran like a hunter. Freedom was flowing through my veins and I made it back home. I doing everything I could to not go crazy from the confinement. But, man, the guards for the Memorial are in the infirmary and they said some wild stuff!"
"Like what?" He grabbed the young man's shoulders.
"Whoa, cool it! Man are your hunter instincts making you trip like this?"
"Yes they are, I've been like this all day, what did they say?"
"They said that the Guardians came and used some kind of power that allowed them to single handedly knock both of them out. Which means they stole the Shadowhunter weapons. I cleared your name."
"Cleared my name?"
"Yeah, the ladies at the check in said they saw you go in the Memorial alone, but didn't recall seeing you come out. The elders got really suspicious and were about to send a hunt out for you. But, now the hunt is going out for the Guardians tomorrow."
"Thanks, Ace, that means I owe you one," Creed replied.
"No man, we're good brother, to be honest my hunter instincts have been going off today too, as well as many other hunters. I think that's why everybody is so antsy, don't be mad, the girls only told what they saw." Ace reminded Creed.
"Yeah I know, well, I may need you later."
"I got your back, Creed. Just let me know," Ace smiled, his teeth was perfectly straight and white. Creed knew that something was wrong and he needed to find out what was happening, before it was too late.
