[Chapter 29]: Festival
Two weeks later
"Y/N and Bakugou. You are needed at the front office." Aizawa's voice boredly sounded from the front of the classroom.
I let out a barely audible scoff as the typical 'oohs' rang out, and multiple eyes burned into my skull.
"WHAT...WHY?!" Katsuki boomed, beginning to testify before Aizawa's bloodshot glare bored into him.
"It's too early for this. Just go, and hurry back." The insomniac groaned as he leaned up against his podium.
I swallowed thickly as I rose from my desk and followed Katsuki out of the classroom.
This has to be about the gas station...
Once the 1A door closed shut behind us, Katsuki turned to me.
"Do you know what the hell this is about?" Katsuki scoffed, folding his arms as he awaited an answer.
"Uh...It might be....about the gas station." I spoke at almost a whisper. The still silence of the long hallway gave off eerie vibes, as I reminisced on that afternoon.
"What the hell...I thought they caught the fucker that did that to us." Katsuki spat as we fell in step towards the front office.
I began to think back on the words that Mr. Shinsou spoke a few weeks ago.
"There also might be a court date coming up next month...for the verdict of the man who attacked you and Katsuki."
"They believe that there is more to what happened that day."
"I guess we are about to find out then..." I responded before we fell into a comfortable silence. Only the soft padding of our shoes against the tile floor could be heard.
As we approached the office, we watched a few buzzing police officers stroll in and out of the room.
Katsuki let out a stressed sigh as his footsteps slowed to a halt. Seconds later, my gloved fingers slowly found and intertwined with his.
"It's going to be okay..." I whispered, giving his hand a soft squeeze before we resumed our trek towards the buzzing office.
Once the office door slid open, we were met with chaos.
Police and investigators were packed into the small front office, and all of their attention fell on us once we entered. I felt my blood immediately run cold at the sight.
"L/N Y/N, Bakugou Katsuki...come with me please..." A man in a tan overcoat called out to us as he stood in the doorway of Principal Nezu's office.
"Y-Yes sir..." I muttered once Katsuki didn't respond. I felt my hand begin to tremble in Katsuki's as the stress began to build up.
As we made our way through the flurry of people, I received a soft hand squeeze to remind me of the words I uttered just seconds ago.
It's going to be okay...
Upon entering the principal's office, we were met with a new face.
Principal Nezu remained seated behind his desk, and the detective strolled over to stand beside him.
In front of the desk sat a UA student who turned back to observe Katsuki and I.
He had round blue eyes and swept up blond hair.
"Hello Miss L/N and Mr. Bakugou... please have a seat." Principal Nezu chirped out in his usual cheerful tone. His tone completely contradicted the mood of the room.
"Hey...why are we here, get to the point." Katsuki groaned, irritation beginning to arise in his tone as we took a seat beside the new kid. I sat beside him with Katsuki on my right. "And why is he here..." He continued, shooting the silent boy a side glare.
"Ka-" I started before I was interrupted by the detective's voice.
"Well...good morning everyone. My name is Detective Tsukauchi. We are here to talk about the incident at the gas station. Some new details have surfaced and we would like to hear from you all."
"So why is he here..." The ash-blond gruffly spoke, causing the quiet boy to finally speak.
"My father....h-he was the one who attacked you two...but I know he's innocent, he would ne-" He started, before Katsuki lashed out.
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JU-" He started before I nudged him in roughly in the side.
"Let him speak..." I spoke sternly, feeling sick to my stomach as he continued speaking.
"My father would never do anything as horrendous as what he is being trialed for. All of the evidence in this case so far shows that he was forced into this. I'm in no way dismissing what you guys were put through, no one should have to go through what you guys experienced. But no matter how many rude stares and false accusations come my way, I will not stop fighting for him. I could save a million people, but none of that will matter if I can't even save my own father." He spoke softly.
His tone wasn't angry, or sad. It was calm. Everything about him was calm even his posture exuded a deep, mature calmness.
"Oh...and im Mirio Togata. Nice to meet you two." He spoke with a small smile. My eyes widened as I turned to Katsuki who had the same look on his face.
"M-Mirio...you're in the big three...?" I muttered, staring at him in shock. He responded with a quick head nod before the principal spoke.
"Alright now, I'm going to let Detective Tsukauchi explain the new findings in the case. Please be respectful." He spoke, shooting a stern look to Katsuki before the detective picked up his notebook and spoke.
"Alright...I'm going to give a quick rundown of everything we have found in this case. And after, I will ask you all a few questions. So please keep the interruptions to a minimum." He spoke, receiving a grunt from Katsuki once he glanced our way.
"For starters, the suspect Mr. Togata had claimed to remember sitting in his car in front of UA, and the next second he was standing in front of Bakugou and L/N with a gas pump in hand. He stated that he panicked and fled the scene before he was apprehended by the police." He paused taking a sip from his coffee mug before replacing it atop Principal Nezu's desk.
"Later on we had found that his car had been lit on fire down the street from the gas station minutes before the attack. And after performing an examination on the vehicle, we discovered the remains of a UA uniform. And after we determined the size of the uniform we concluded that it was indeed not Mirio's. That means that there was someone else in Mr. Togata's car that day. And that someone is a male UA student."
All three of us UA students let out a simultaneous gasp as the words left the detective's mouth.
"So far we have ruled out the possibility of the suspect being Bakugou, Mirio, or any UA male not in the height range of 165 cm to 185 cm." He continued as he ran his finger along the notes written in his notebook.
I remained speechless. This all makes sense now. Ever since the USJ attack, we had speculated that there was a UA traitor among us. What if the traitor is the one who attacked us? And who could possibly be the traitor?
"And if all of this information is indeed factual, that would mean that a deeper investigation will have to be started within the UA walls. We need to know what student would want to bring harm to you, and why. Do you guys have any ideas on who would want to bring harm your way? I know you guys are very close with your peers, but if there is any sign that we are missing please speak out now."
Bakugou POV
It all makes sense now.
Y/N was going to come to my house the day that we were attacked.
I know what kind of fucked up person Hitoshi is, I know he had something to do with this.
First off, once I arrived at the hospital to see Y/N literally an hour after the incident happened, he was there. He was there wearing a black hoodie. Right after school. Why wasn't he wearing a UA uniform? And how did he even know it happened?
And second, Mr. Togata has no memory of what happened until the end. That sounds like Hitoshi's quirk. And on top of that, Hitoshi has done criminal things already. He assaulted Y/N and he threatened me. There is no way that he didn't commit those crimes. I'm stupid for only realizing it now.
I have to say something...
"Mr. Tsukauchi I-" I started before Y/N spoke out first.
"The USJ incident has brought along a lot of speculation on whether there is a traitor at UA, and I believe that if there is a traitor at UA, they had something to do with the gas station attack." Y/N started, gaining the full attention of everyone in the room.
"Mirio is in the big three of UA. Maybe this traitor wanted to target the top student of the school by going for his father. Maybe he was forced into attacking us to bring a bad name to UA. I don't know what the traitor might have had against Mr. Togata to get him to stay silent about this whole situation, but it may have been something really big...that's just my take." She continued, receiving a hum of acknowledgment from the detective.
"I-" I spoke before I was once again interrupted. Anger slowly began to bubble inside me.
"That is a very keen observation Miss L/N. I never thought of it that way. You could be right about that. We'll definitely keep tabs on the USJ attack also." He spoke, writing down notes in his journal.
"But...who...who would go that far...?" Mirio spoke quietly. I could hear his voice start to become pained.
Everyone stayed silent as the reality of the situation began to set in on them.
Everyone but me.
I opened my mouth to speak but quickly paused, thinking back on Hitoshi's words.
"You don't want to play games with me Katsuki...I'll win."
If Hitoshi was able to pull off an entire attack like that, and possibly be the UA traitor, I bet he could get out of any accusations made towards him. With a quirk like his, you can get away with anything.
But even now...how do I know Hitoshi was the one responsible for the attack? What if Y/N is right...? And if I expose Hitoshi now...Y/N will never forgive me. I have to wait till I'm one hundred percent sure it was him.
"Do you have anything to say Bakugou?" Detective Tsukauchi spoke, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"I agree with Y/N...whoever did it, has to be the traitor," I spoke calmly, internally preparing myself for what I have to do.
I have to confirm everything about Hitoshi. No matter how much I hate Hitoshi, there is no way that I can hurt Y/N by exposing him right now.
I need help and I know exactly who to ask.
"Alright thank you for the statements we'll keep you guys updated on the developments. You can head back to class." Principal Nezu spoke before we prepared to head back.
---------------
"Hey why did you text me to come out here Bakugou...?" Kirishima spoke as he rounded the corner to the empty side of the school outside.
"Just listen to me..." I spoke lowly, gaining Kirishima's attention.
"I need your help..." I mumbled, shoving my hands into my pockets.
"Ooohh...The almighty Bakugou need-" The scarlet-haired boy started in a sarcastic tone before I shoved him.
"It's fucking serious..." I lowered my voice even lower, observing the area to really check if we were alone.
"Alright... what's up..." He finally spoke seriously.
"Hitoshi Shinsou..." I simply stated, watching his expression darken seconds after.
"What about him..." He spoke lowly. The tone of Kirishima's voice held a deep seriousness within it.
"He needs to be taken down...I need your help, you're the only one I can trust with this." I responded.
"I was going to eventually ask you the same thing Bakugou. Shinsou has done some shit that only I know about also..." He spoke darkly, causing a chill to run down my spine.
"Okay...tell me everything..."
-----------------
Y/N POV
"Sooo...Toshi tell me all about your training with Aizawa..." I beamed, nudging Hitoshi in the shoulder as we relaxed against a vent atop the roof.
"Nope...it's a surprise, I don't need you telling all of 1-A my secrets..." He teased, taking an enormous bite of his sandwich.
"Alright, whatever bedhead. I can't wait to kick your ass at the sports festival." I spoke causing Hitoshi's brows to rise.
"Just wait till you see what developments I've made with my quirk." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
"NOOO, DON'T DO THAT TOSHI...TELL ME!!!!" I screamed, turning to the violet-haired boy and shaking his shoulders.
"No...I don't think I will..." He spoke condescendingly, as he threw me off of him.
"How about you tell me about your training with Todoroki..." He spat as he crossed his arms.
"Well... let's just say if I touch you right now with my bare hands you won't be kicking anyone's ass at the sports festival," I spoke in a lower tone, disappointment evident in my tone.
Everyone has been improving their quirks and getting stronger while I can't even control my stupid quirk. At this point, I bet Hitoshi is going to be taking my spot in 1A.
"Hey...don't worry you'll make some progress you still have two days. And even then, I know you can still literally kick ass with that blackleg technique. Who else knows how to do that....? Exactly, you'll catch them off guard." He spoke reassuringly with a soft smile.
"Thank you, Toshi...And also...I'm so proud of you.." I continued, pulling Hitoshi into a hug.
Hitoshi hasn't had any problems lately. He hasn't used his quirk on anyone without permission, and he has been clean. I'm sure that after this sports festival he will definitely be a part of 1-A.
"We are both gonna kick ass at this sports festival. We've been training for years, all for this moment." He whispered into my ear, pulling me closer.
"Let's show them all..."
