[Chapter 15]: Handshake
The harsh ringing of my alarm clock flooded my ears; jolting me into consciousness. With half-open eyes, I flailed my arms desperately in the general direction of the god-forsaken ringing. After missing the dismiss button a good amount of times, I was finally left in peaceful silence. There was no beating heart monitor this time, just the soft humming of the air conditioning and my breathing. Instinctively, I began to sink deeper into the bed; slowly closing my heavy eyelids again. "Just five...more...m-"
"FUCK.." I internally panicked; Jolting myself into a sitting position. I drowsily felt around for my phone once again before lifting it to my face when I acquired it. I groaned as the harsh light beamed into my tired eyes. "It's 6 AM, I don't wanna be early." I pouted quietly as I rolled myself up in my blanket like a worm. I miscalculated the width of the bed, resulting in my lifeless corpse plunging off of the side of the bed with a loud thud. Soon after, my E/C eyes met the glowing sky blue eyes of C/N as he emerged from the depths of the closet.
"Don't do it..." I threatened dramatically as I wiggled around in the blanket, failing to get free.
"Meow." He simply stated before trotting over and planting himself on top of me.
"I have to go to school or Erasertoes is gonna kill me." I groaned as the struggle to free myself continued. In return, I received soft purring as C/N resumed sleeping. I let out an enormous sigh as I laid lifelessly on the floor once again. "I guess there's only one way." I thought as I channeled my inner Aizawa.
I began to slowly but surely slither my way across the room like a rattlesnake. C/N somehow remained latched onto my back the whole time. After about a minute, I peered up at the doorknob. "Welp...I give up." I groaned as I once again laid lifelessly.
Seconds later, light spilled from under the door into the dark room. Heavy footsteps began approaching.
"Hitoshi!" I whisper screamed in relief, causing the footsteps to abruptly pause at the door. The door slowly creaked open, and the lights were flicked on. My sigh of relief was cut short as my eyes met violet eyes...but they weren't Hitoshi's.
"Um...Y/N?" Mr. Shinsou uttered in pure confusion at my appearance. My eyes widened.
"Oh my god...uh...well you see...um-" I sputtered as all of the color drained from my face in embarrassment. Soon after, Hitoshi's purple troll hair popped out from the side of the doorframe. He began laughing.
"Again Y/N...? You're training to be a pro hero and you let C/N and a blanket take you down." He teased as he entered the room.
"Shut up bedhead, I can still take you down any day." I retorted as he lifted C/N off of me and held him. Mr. Shinsou just stood motionlessly in the doorway watching everything unfold. Hitoshi clicked his tongue and handed C/N over to his dumbfounded dad before dropping down to my level.
"Don't...I.....the actual pro hero in training, can free myself." I teased in a dramatic heroic tone. Hitoshi just huffed and backed up a bit with a smirk on his face.
"Go on..." He nodded towards me, crossing his arms in anticipation.
I began tossing and turning within the blankets to no avail. It was no use, my arms were still pinned to my sides and my legs were still locked together.
"Whatever...Toshi please just help me before I burn a hole in this blanket. I have to be in class early today." I groaned as I locked eyes with a smug Hitoshi.
"No..no go on...I'm not a pro hero in training, you got this." He replied in a condescending tone; rubbing the back of his neck with a devious grin.
"Mr. Shinsou please." I desperately shot my gaze up to the violet-haired man.
"I'm not a part of this." He mused with a smile as he walked off; rubbing circles on C/N's head. "Just be ready in the next thirty minutes, I'm taking you to school." He called out from the living room.
"Toshi...I'm serious." I deadpanned as the insomniac continued his laughing fit. "Geez, it literally took one day, and he's back to his normal self?"
"Are you going to at least say please?" He asked innocently as he stood up.
"Please...there...now can you jus-" My breath hitched abruptly as my vision blurred. I felt the familiar feeling of an out-of-body experience. For a few seconds, I couldn't tell what was happening, then my eyes met Hitoshi's. I was standing up, no longer wrapped in the blanket.
"There...you did it yourself." He simply stated before walking off unbothered.
"...the fuck..." I whispered under my breath as I rubbed my aching head. "Why is Hitoshi so comfortable with using his quirk lately?" I furrowed my brows as I watched his room door shut behind him. He always feels bad when he uses it, but once he used it on that nurse he was so serious about it. And now he's acting like it's nothing.
Without giving it another thought, I promptly closed my door with a sigh. My eyes scanned the room before they landed on all of the gifts and balloons leftover from the hospital laid neatly in the corner. "I need to finish reading those letters." I thought as I made my way over to the stack; gently picking them up.
I shuffled through all of the letters searching for one letter in particular:
"Bakugou."
After searching through all of the letters twice, I realized two were missing. Bakugou's letter and Mineta's letter. "I swear both of them wrote one...I thought I saw them." I furrowed my eyebrows as I pulled my backpack from the closet and neatly placed the letters inside. "I hope they didn't get lost.." I sighed as I began to get ready for the day.
-------------------
"I've been sitting here for thirty minutes....thirty damn minutes, and Aizawa still isn't here." I tapped my foot impatiently as I peered up at the ticking clock. Thirty minutes till the start of class.
After a few more minutes, I adjusted my gloves and stood up with a groan, marching towards the door; leaving the folder with all of my work sprawled out on the desk. I slid open the enormous door and looked left and right. The hall was empty. Irritated, I slammed the door closed with a loud bang.
"I could have gotten more fucking sleep." I tiredly groaned before slowly turning around. I completely froze as my eyes landed on a freshly awoken Aizawa emerging from behind his podium. "How did I not see him!" I panicked internally as my eyes widened.
"I should suspend you for what you just did and said...but since you just got out of the hospital ill let it slide. " Aizawa spoke in a stern but tired voice; slowly exiting his sleeping bag.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Aizawa, it won't happen again." I sheepishly bowed before I basically ran and threw myself back into my seat.
"Alright hurry up and give me the work so I can go back to sleep." He spoke gruffly; leaning on the podium as he locked eyes with me. I quickly gathered up all of my work in the folder and sheepishly made my way over to the tired man, handing him the folder with an awkward smile.
He sighed as he went through each paper, occasionally giving me a stoic glance. I played with my gloves nervously as the silence in the room attacked my nerves. "He probably hates me..." I thought as I peered down at my skirt. I heard his breath hitch, causing me to dart my wide eyes to him. He was still; eyes glued to the bottom of a page.
"You're....it all makes sense now...." He whispered in disbelief; not making eye contact with me.
"W...what is it," I whispered; confusion evident in my tone. Suddenly a wave of embarrassment hit me like a train upon realizing what he saw.
"OH MY GOD....Mr. Aizawa just ignore that....I...I-" I sputtered as my heart began to pound in my chest. I totally didn't write: "To Erasertoes." At the bottom of my paper when I was half asleep yesterday.
"So you're the cricket she always talked about." He whispered, locking eyes with me. All of the color had drained from my face.
"I'm so sorry...she told me to call you that...I didn't mean to disre-"
A chuckle escaped his lips as he grinned. " Oh god...He's going to kill me."
"You two are complete opposites." He smiled softly; placing my folder on the podium shelf. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he came to a realization. "You said...she told you to call me that...?" He questioned slowly.
"Well...after the accident, I saw her..." I trailed off in a whisper. Aizawa hummed in response before I continued. "She told me that you and Present Mic were her buddies." I continued with a weak smile.
Minor Manga spoilers ahead...
"Yeah...those were the days." He sighed as he leaned on the podium. "we all wanted to start a hero agency together...but....after we lost her and Oboro, things were never the same. He continued; his voice becoming sorrowful towards the end.
"She didn't mention...an Oboro..." I trailed off; instantly regretting it when Aizawa's face dropped.
"He was our friend also...he died in during a villain attack...Nami tried desperately to bring him back with her quirk...but,-" He uttered weakly; looking down at the podium.
"I'm so sorry..." I replied; my heart beginning to ache as I relived the incident with Nami eight years ago.
"It's okay kid...you had nothing to do with their deaths." He spoke reassuringly. My heart skipped a beat and my palms began to tremble "He....doesn't know..."
"Can you...tell me more about Nami," I muttered; peering up at him with a teary-eyed smile. He stood up straight as he hummed softly.
"Nami wasn't scared of anything...she was always the first to charge into action." He started with a faint smile. I peered up into his tired eyes with awe as he continued. "On the first day of school, when you had taken down Bakugou in front of the class...I saw Nami within you...I should've known you were her sister back then." He softly spoke.
"It doesn't help that our quirks weren't alike," I replied softly; playing with my gloves. "Her touch brought life, and my touch brings death." I whimpered; looking down at my gloves. Aizawa made his way around the podium and placed a gentle hand on my shoulder.
"Hey...kid, your quirk doesn't bring death...it brings light." He spoke softly as tears began to stream down my face.
"Sensei...if I touched you right now...it would kill you...not bring light...and...I'm always cold, you don't understand how bad I want to be able to ditch these gloves." I croaked; not making eye contact with the ravenette.
"If you believe that your quirk will only kill....then that's what it will do kid..." He replied softly. I flinched as warmth rushed through my entire body. I shot my tear-stained eyes up to meet glowing scarlet ones. Sweat immediately began to form on my forehead.
"I wish it was like this all the time," I muttered; watching Aizawa's hair float upwards.
"Not with the amount of dry eye I get." He chuckled as he extended a hand out to me. My eyes widened.
"I can't...." I trailed off as I peered down at my gloves.
"Nothing is going to happen kid...I promise." He smiled softly. I let out a shaky breath as I slowly removed my right glove. My eyes remained locked on Aizawa's hand as I remembered when Nami extended a hand out to me before I killed her. I began trembling, and my heart began to pound in my chest.
"Hey...kid if you're not ready...you don't ha-" I squeezed my eyes shut as my bare hand made contact with Aizawa's. I slowly shook his hand; opening my eyes as I pulled back and let out the breath I'd been holding.
"T..that was the first bare handshake I've ever....had." I grinned; peering up at a normal-eyed Aizawa with tear-stained eyes.
"Hmm...That's what I thought..." He mumbled as he squirted eye drops into his eyes.
"What do you mean?" I spoke softly; furrowing my brows in confusion at the tired man.
"Right when your hand made contact with mine I stopped using my quirk." He stated nonchalantly. I gasped; my eyes widening in shock.
"YOU WHAT!" I panicked. Aizawa let out a slight chuckle; shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Calm down kid...I only did it because Iida informed me that when he pulled you from under the rubble in the entrance exam, you didn't burn him when he touched your hands." He replied; shrugging his shoulders like it wasn't a big deal.
"Mr. Aizawa...I COULD'VE KILLED YOU!" I shouted as the door slid open. Aizawa and I shot our gazes to a wide-eyed Izuku standing in the doorway.
"Uh....I..ill wait outside." He sheepishly muttered; turning back around and closing the door before any of us could respond. Aizawa began walking towards the door.
"So...there we have it....your quirk doesn't just kill, Y/N." He spoke over his shoulder with a grin before he let Izuku back into the classroom.
"Is he fucking suicidal...?" I thought in disbelief as other students began entering after Izuku.
