[Chapter 12]:Alive

Warning: mention of self-harm towards the end.

Sirens began to blare in the distance. "This isn't going to end well." I gulped. Tears began to well up in my eyes as I watched the gasoline seep through the fabric of my glove. My heart rate sped up as people began slowly making their way over to me.

"STAY AWAY!" I bellowed, backing up onto the sidewalk by the gas station.

"Hey, are you okay?" A woman called out to me, pushing a stroller as she continued inching towards me. I began to tremble.

"No...no please stay away...!" I cried out. She paused with a concerned look on her face but complied.

I froze as I heard sparks begin to crackle inside my gloves. I shot my head down to my hand expecting the worse but, the gloves were keeping it contained. I let out a breath of relief as I looked up at Bakugou, he was finally recovering.

"Y/N..?" He called out in a worried tone. I smiled at him and Mitsuki with tear-stained eyes.

"I'm okay guys!" I waved towards them as tons of police cars, ambulances and firetrucks pulled into the lot. I swear I noticed a slight smile on Bakugou's face before I heard another crackle. I shot my gaze down as a spark emitted from the opening of my glove and ignited the gasoline on my arm. I didn't even have time to react.

My vision went red. All I could hear were muffled screams and sirens as I dropped to my knees, engulfed in fire and desperately gasping for air.

Bakugou POV

Without even thinking I threw myself in the direction of Y/N, my legs pumped back and forth at an inhuman speed. Mom screamed desperately from behind me trying to get me to halt."What am I doing...." Screams rang out from multiple people as they ran away from the flames, but I continued running directly towards them while drenched in gasoline.

I finally realized what Deku meant when he said his legs just began moving on their own that day when the sludge villain attacked me. Tears began to prick at the corner of my eyes as I desperately barreled towards the scorching hot flames, even though I knew there was no hope.

Firefighters were rushing towards her also. They desperately shouted at me to stop, but I couldn't. Once I was meters away from her, a few firefighters branched out towards me and grabbed me, pulling me away.

"Let...me go." I croaked, struggling in their grasp. Tears began to run down my face as they pulled me farther and farther from Y/N. "I'm...so sorry Y/N." I whimpered under my breath as I watched as smoke continue to rise from where she once stood, smiling and saying everything was okay.

I stopped fighting and squeezed my eyes shut as they began using an extinguisher to try to control the fire. "She's...gone?" I rubbed my eyes in disbelief as I began thinking back on all of the times I yelled at her, hurt her, and made her cry. Regret instantly filled my soul.

When I finally opened my eyes, Mom was at my side. She engulfed me in a tight warm hug, not even taking the time to scold me for running off to certain death.

The firefighters then left us alone and returned to the flames. There were now news reporters in the area trying to record everything even though police had the whole area blocked off. This made my blood boil, all they care about is a fucking story.

"Oh my...God!" A voice rang out in shock. I pulled my head out of the crook of mom's neck instantly. The flames were gone and firefighters were in a huddle around what I assume to be the remains of Y/N. I croaked and began to cry again as mom kept comforting me. My head began pounding as I heard more shouting. Two police officers arrived at our side, drawing my attention away.

"Are you Mrs. Bakugou?"An officer with H/C hair formally asked. The other officer was writing on a small notepad.

"Yes...I am." She answered softly, her eyes were tear-stained and puffy just like mine. She pulled me closer to her side as the officer's gaze locked on me.

"I know this is a very traumatic experience for you but....do you have any information on the suspect?" He questioned, taking off his shades as the sun began to set.

"Yeah..." I lowered my head while mom rubbed circles on my back. "H..he was wearing dark shades, A black hat and looked middle-aged. I didn't see him get in a car though." I spoke softly. The other officer began scribbling in a notebook as I rocked back and forth.

"GET ME A STRETCHER, SHE'S BREATHING AGAIN." A voice boomed from behind me. My breath hitched before I spun around quickly. My wide eyes met a group of firefighters lifting an unconscious Y/N onto a stretcher. She was covered from the neck down with a blanket but somehow had no burns. I let out a huge shaky breath.

"Shes...." I started at a whisper.

"....Alive." Mom finished, also in shock.

While I watched Y/N get loaded into the ambulance, mom exchanged more information with the officers.

"Come on Katsuki, we are going to the hospital." She spoke softly as she motioned towards the car. We were the last people other than the emergency workers to leave. On the way to the car, multiple people and broadcasters yelled out to us. I narrowed my eyes at all of them before Mom turned me away from them. We ignored everyone else as we made our way to the car.

The smell emitting from me was becoming stronger as the gasoline began to dry on my uniform. After hopping into the car, I peered over my shoulder into the back seat. Y/N's school bag and phone were laid on the seat still. After a few seconds, the police cleared a path, so that we could pull out behind the blaring ambulance. As we pulled out of the gas station, I closed my eyes and just hoped that Y/N will pull through this.

First Person POV

"It's not your fault Y/N," Nami spoke softly, giving me a light-hearted smile. I sat across from her at a small table in an empty, silent room. She slowly took both of my bare hands in hers. I flinched, but nothing happened.

"I just wanted to make your dream a reality." I looked down. "But...I guess I failed." My voice broke slightly as I looked into her vibrant E/C eyes. She smiled sympathetically.

"Y/N you didn't fail..." She stood up slowly and walked over to my side of the table. "This isn't the end for you..."She spoke softly, running her hand through her short black hair.

"Then why am I here...Nami?" I scanned the white room with no doors. "I'm dead aren't I."
I deadpanned, peering up at her. She chuckled softly.

"No Cricket, you're not dead yet...your life is just beginning." She grinned, ruffling my hair, before pulling me to my feet slowly. Tears began to prick in the corners of my eyes at the nickname.

"I haven't heard...that name in years." I smiled softly. "I miss you so much." I croaked, beginning to cry. She pulled me into a hug. I could actually feel the warmth radiating from her.

"You're not that same little six-year-old who use to hop around the house every day..." She gave me a teary-eyed smile, pulling me closer.

"You've grown so much....we are the same age now. I wish I could've been there for you Cricket." She sniffed. There was a brief silence as we stayed in an embrace. Nami slowly pulled back.

"It's about time for you to go back." She smiled softly, taking my hands again.

"B..but...I...I want to stay here with you Nami... there are so many things I want to talk to you...about...I-" My voice broke as I looked into her eyes solemnly.

"You're strong Y/N, you'll do better than I ever did at U.A." She placed a hand on my heart and smiled. "I'll always be here.." She pressed her hand down as light beamed from my chest. I began hearing a faint heartbeat inside myself.

"When you get back...say hello to my buddies Hizashi and Shota for me, I know those damn goofs stuck around at U.A." She perked up slightly with a grin. "And make sure you call Shota Erasertoes." She laughed light-heartedly before she looked deeply into my glistening eyes. "She...knew them...?"

"I love you...Y/N...don't worry about living out my dream, because my dream is watching you grow up to be a powerful and successful hero." She pulled me into one last hug.

"I love you...Nami." I whimpered before everything began slowly fading away. The sound of a heart monitor slowly filled my ears. I twitched a bit before my eyes slowly fluttered open.

"Y/N....." A voice whispered. My vision was a bit blurry but Hitoshi stood up from a chair in the corner and rushed to my bedside. He was in pajama pants and a black long sleeve shirt.

"You're okay..." His voice broke as my eyes locked into his glistening, tired, violet eyes.

"Toshi what happened..." I muttered, pulling myself into a sitting position slowly. I winced as the IV cord shifted. Before Hitoshi could answer, a nurse entered the room, causing him to flinch.

"Oh my god...you're awake..." She paused; locking eyes with Hitoshi.
"Hey...you can't be in here." She spoke sternly; placing a hand on her hip.

"Oh...another nurse let me in...I'm not allowed to be here?" He spoke innocently, rubbing the back of his neck.

"No....you need a parent or g-" She paused abruptly. I looked into her dull eyes briefly, then shot my wide eyes to Hitoshi.

"Maybe you should go change that rule." He coldly spoke, narrowing his eyes at her. My jaw dropped as she spun around and left, closing the door behind her.

"Hitoshi what the fuck....that's illegal!" I whisper screamed, furrowing my eyebrows at the boy. He began tearing up.

"I'm sorry Y/N...you've been out for two days....and I...I just...." He paused, running his hands through his unruly hair. My breath hitched.

"Two...days," I whispered, peering down at my gloves. "Is Bakugou okay?" I bursted out worriedly.

"He's fine...." He spoke lowly, frowning slightly as he stared at the ground

"Tell me exactly what happened Toshi," I muttered, pulling my blanket closer.

"I don't know specifics but I know that you've been unconscious since the accident...they said you suffocated and they had to bring you back three times." His head lowered as his tone became solemn. I looked down at my chest, I was wearing the cat necklace that Hitoshi bought me. That's when I began looking around. The room was decorated with balloons and stuffed animals.

"Do you know who else came to visit?" I questioned, playing with the necklace as I watched Hitoshi's black cat necklace sway as he shifted.

"Your whole class came yesterday after school." He sighed looking back up.

"Really...?" I sighed in embarrassment.

"Oh...here's the work that you missed too." He grabbed his bag and pulled a folder from inside, handing it to me. I deadpanned at the thickness of it.

"Damn...I literally just woke up from a coma and Aizawa expects all of this?" I chuckled softly.

"I'm glad you're okay Y/N you had me so worried." He softly spoke as he zipped up his bag and put it on. "I have to go back home, school starts in a few hours, and Mom and Dad don't know I'm gone." He continued as I sat up straight.

"Thank you...for being here, but you're probably getting arrested if anyone finds out you used your quirk on that nurse." I chuckled softly as he shot me a weak smile. He made his way over to my bedside and embraced me in a soft hug causing our necklaces to latch together with a soft clinging noise. When he pulled back, his sleeve receded a bit revealing a line of cuts on his arm. My eyes widened.

"What's wrong..." He muttered with concern in his violet eyes.

"I...I...its nothing...I just remembered something...." I spoke softly before he turned to leave. I gave him one last wave goodbye as he began to make his way towards the door. The sun was beginning to rise as I watched him leave sadly.

"Please...no Hitoshi." My heart ached as I pulled the necklace closer to my chest.
