[Chapter 1]:Ignite
FIVE YEARS LATER
_______________________________
We made it.
I freeze in place, Yuuei, the school of my dreams is right in front of me. I can't even bring myself to step towards the entrance.
This is the very place that pro heroes like All Might roamed.
I glance up at the clear blue sky, my body overflowing with confidence.
I'm going to carry on your dream Nami, I promise.
"Are you coming, or do I need to make you?" Hitoshi chuckles as he catches up to me; shoving one hand in his pocket, and taking a sip of his steaming coffee with the other.
"I...I just...wow." I mutter as we continue towards the entrance.
"I can't believe we are here, all of the hours of hard work we put in might actually pay o-"
Before I can finish, a kid with cyan broccoli-looking hair trips in front of us, but luckily, a pretty girl with brunette hair uses her quirk to stop his fall causing him to flail floating in the air.
"Wow her quirk is so cool," I whisper scream to Hitoshi, before rambling about her quirk at an incredible speed.
"There are so many kids here, I wonder what kind of amazing, flashy quirks they all have, this is going to be so cool I can't wai-" I notice Hitoshi visibly getting increasingly more nervous as he rubs the back of his neck.
"Oh my god...Toshi I'm so sorry." I lower my voice. I move to rub his shoulder but stop halfway.
You're wearing the gloves Y/N.
This only causes him to become even more nervous, as he steps back; his face slightly dusted pink. Not wanting to make him any more nervous than he already is, I continue walking.
We are approaching the auditorium of the school now, Hundreds of kids are piling into it like an anthill.
We continue walking side by side in a comfortable silence until Hitoshi clears his throat, and turns to me.
"I'm....actually...kinda nervous, I feel like my quirk isn't going to be suited for the exam," he admits, slightly lowering his head. I turn my gaze to him with a reassuring smile.
"I'm sure you're going to do great Toshi, don't overthink it. You're really strong and your quirk is great for hero work, who wouldn't want a kick-ass kid who can brainwash people in the hero course?" I try to reassure him while doing a whole bunch of dramatic hand movements. He softly watches me with a small smile on his face.
"Thank you Y/N." He responds, sounding a bit more confident. I notice a hint of new determination in his tired violet eyes.
Once we make it to the entrance of the auditorium, a man gives us numbers to wear on our chest. I feel intimidated as we enter. Almost all of the seats in the auditorium are filled.
There are so many people here that all have the same goals as Hitoshi and I.
I try not to make eye contact with anyone as we make our way up a few stairs towards the empty seats.
Hitoshi POV
What is this feeling?
I glance at Y/N as she sits next to me.
She's so....beautiful.
My eyes roam slowly from her H/C hair down her torso then back up. I flinch as my eyes lock with her E/C eyes.
"Um...Toshi...?"
Fuck, I didn't realize I was starring that long...dammit she's going to think I'm being creepy.
Y/N POV
"Oh I'm sorry, I'm just really nervous." He chuckles. "I kinda zoned out." He continues as he takes a long swig of his coffee.
"It's going to be okay, just breath." I try to reassure the insomniac. Suddenly a loud booming voice fills the auditorium, causing Hitoshi to choke on his drink.
"LET ME HEAR YAAA!!!!"
"OH MY GOD, IT'S PRESENT MIC!!" I yell, instantly ducking down behind the seat in front of me, covering my mouth in embarrassment once I realize that everyone heard my outburst. And that isn't even the worst part.
I feel hundreds of eyes burn into my skull.
Silence
"NOW THAT'S THE SPIRIT LITTLE LISTENER!" He booms, pointing at me. "I GUESS EVERYONE ELSE IS KEEPING IT MELLOW!"
At this point, my face should be burning from embarrassment, but I can't feel heat so I just drown in the feeling.
I just embarrassed myself in front of hundreds of kids now everyone is going to see me as the cringy fangirl who had an outburst, no one will ever take me seriously. I just ruined my chances of becoming a hero please kill me now.
"I know you probably want to die right now, but honestly it wasn't that bad Y/N," Hitoshi whispers over to me smirking as Present Mic continues talking. I nervously laugh.
Is his second quirk mind reading what the hell?
The living boombox announces that we will be fighting robots in the practical, and I watch Hitoshi's face completely drop.
Damn it, we both know Hitoshi's quirk isn't suited to be used against robots, what can I even say to him?
I sigh, turning to him.
"Welp...just my luck," Hitoshi sighs, trying to sound calm but I can see the disappointment in his face. His usually tired violet eyes hold a hint of sadness in them. I don't know what to tell him.
"Sorry Hitoshi, I know you'll find a way to pass, you're smarter than you think you are." I smile, nudging him slightly. He weakly returns a smile and keeps his head lowered. I want to hug him, but I cant bring myself to touch him.
In the midst of Present Mic explaining how the exam will work, a tall preppy kid in glasses stands up, beginning to yell a whole monologue about the handouts being incorrect. Then scolds the broccoli we saw outside immediately after.
So this is what going to school with a lot of kids is like.
"Annoying." I sigh under my breath.
After the voice hero goes into more detail about how the practical exam will work, we are all sent off to the groups we will be in during the exam. Hitoshi and I only then realize we aren't in the same group.
"Awe, I won't have Insomnia to back me up." I pout to Hitoshi, nudging him with my elbow playfully.
"It's going to be fine, you don't need me to pass Fire-Woman." He teases.
"I know you'll do great, just give it your all." He speaks softly, giving my shoulder a soft squeeze.
"Good luck Hitoshi, see you soon, I know you'll do great too!" I smile waving at him as we part ways.
After changing into some athletic clothes, I make my way to the bus.
I notice a few familiar faces as we load the bus to head to the exam site. I sit alone in the back of the bus, hoping that no one will sit by me. Not even a second later, the broccoli-headed kid approaches my seat.
"Oh, Hello....um do you mind if I sit here." He mutters, pointing at the space. I am slightly irritated, but I don't let it show. It's nothing personal, I just don't like being close to people I don't know.
"Sure, no problem." I respond as nicely as I can, sending a soft smile his way.
"Midoriya Izuku." He says, nervously extending a hand out as he returns the smile.
"L/N F/N" I simply respond, creating an awkward silence when I don't shake his hand.
"Oh...sorry." He sheepishly mutters pulling his hand back and sitting down at the edge of the seat awkwardly as the bus pulls out of the parking lot. The bus is filled with slight chatter but is for the most part quiet. I glance over at Midoriya, he continues to sit on the edge of the seat, scribbling in a notebook.
"So....uh I saw you trip earlier in front of the school." I utter, nervously playing with my gloves and not making eye contact.
Damn, I'm so bad at talking to people, please kill me now.
Midoriya's face is now tinted pink as he glances up from the notebook.
"Oh...uh....you saw that?" He nervously chuckles, while rubbing the back of his neck."I saw you in the auditorium, I'm actually a pretty big fan of Present Mic also." He beams, his eyes sparking with excitement.
"Oh...I'm sorry you had to witness that." I chuckle awkwardly; still not making eye contact with him.
The rest of the ride to the exam went like this:
Silence
Upon arrival at the site, I didn't dare make eye contact with Midoriya as we exited the bus.
I really just fucking embarrassed myself again...again what the hell is wrong with me, this is not my day.
Within the next second, the real nervousness hits me like a train.
What if I don't pass, I'll let Hitoshi down, I'll never become a hero and Nami's dream will die and I'll be stuck with the devil and go through hell every single living day of my life.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
My thoughts are interrupted when Present Mic yells for us to start.
Fuck.
Without hesitating, I bolt into the city, tons of people around me charge forward also.
Taking in a huge shaky breath, I slowly pull both of my gloves off.
You got this Y/N. The robots aren't alive...
Most people can just activate their quirks, but my quirk is constant.
My quirk: Ignite
Anything I touch with my hands will catch fire, the more of my hand that touches an object the more intense the fire will be. For example, if I touch an object with the tip of my finger, it will ignite but won't be too intense. The flames can get hot enough to melt steel. I can't feel heat but my body can withstand heat up to 1000° Celsius before it damages me. The only drawback of my quirk is I can't stop it if I'm not wearing my quirk suppressant gloves.
Everyone is taking out villain bots left and right, There are so many different quirks out here. I see a kid with a flashy stomach beam and others with strength quirks. I make sure to try to go for the bots that are separated from the others.
I gently lay my hand on multiple one pointers, immediately engulfing them in flames.
Okay, im doing pretty good, I won't even have to fight if I keep this up.
Soon I am on a rampage, touching bots left and right. No matter the level of difficulty they immediately are engulfed in flames and come toppling to the ground.
I don't even keep track of how many bots I took down, but after a good amount of bot kicking, I round a corner. The ground suddenly begins to vibrate under me as a huge shadow looms over, engulfing me in darkness. I shoot my head up to see the zero-pointer looming over me, and blocking out the sun. I instantly freeze in shock like many other kids in the area.
Holy shit, it's bigger than I thought it would be. (Insert Lenny face)
Why can't I move...?
I'm going to die here oh my god...
My legs tremble as I peer up at the robot, it brings an arm down on a building beside me causing debris to scatter around the area. Everyone begins to panic and flee while I am just standing here frozen. Debris zip by me, slicing the air loud enough for me to hear.
*bang*
I am suddenly and painfully hit hard in the side by debris. A dust cloud flies up as I hit the ground pinned under the object gasping for air.
I can barely breathe.
I continue to gasp for air and dart my eyes around desperately till I notice the pretty girl with the brown hair from earlier is also in the same predicament not too far from me. I feel the ground shake beneath me every time the zero-pointer takes a step. As my vision begins to blur, I see...
Midoriya?
While everyone continues to retreat and leave us to die, Midoriya comes barreling towards us desperately looking up at the zero pointer with fear. He then flies up out of my line of sight, leaving a dust cloud below him.
Soon after, I hear a loud boom and the sound of metal retracting. I feel the bot hit the ground behind me seconds later. A thick cloud of dust engulfs the area, causing me to uncontrollably cough.
In the next second, The brown-haired girl frees herself from the rubble and slaps Midoriya's mangled corpse to stop him from hitting the ground.
When I turn my wide eyes back in front of me, I notice steam beginning to rise from the concrete where my hands are.
Soon after, people come running towards us. The annoying kid with the glasses jogs up to me, trying to pull me from under the rubble.
"NO DON'T TOUCH ME!!" I panic as he tries to grab my hands. He flinches; shooting me a concerned look.
"I'm sorry, but I need to help you." I begin shaking, feeling myself fade out of consciousness.
"D..don't touch....m..my hands you'll..d..die." The last thing I saw was him yelling for help as he did weird motions with his hands.
