Chapter 7: Two Smiles Under the Sky

.

What an unexpected surprise! Millita was declared the new sovereign of the Incas!

Her friends were surprised but undoubtedly the most surprised was the kitten when her friends told her about the resolution of Atahualpa and Huáscar.

"I didn't want this, friends, and what am I supposed to do now? Couldn't I get rid of this situation somehow?"

"I suppose you could clear all this up, friend," said Khompa, "but if you did, those two humans would start the war again."

"Oh no. Why are they so stubborn?"

"I'm afraid it's human nature, Millita. The best thing for all will be for you to go on with all this being the new ruler of the Incas," said one quirquincho.

"Cheer up Millita, I know you can do a good job."

The kitten looked at her friends and knew she couldn't let them down, Millita, the working kitten, would now be the Inca ruler.

The ceremony was impressive in Cuzco and after that, came Millita's first decree: No more wars or subjugations of neighboring tribes, humans were made to love each other and not to hate each other.

.

.

Millita turned out to be a good ruler and her mandates were understood by everyone thanks to the help of her friends the quirquinchos, nothing seemed to disturb a kind of utopia, but strange news came from the north.

"White and bearded men?"

"Yes, Millita," Khirita told her, "they tell me that they have metal for skin and that they come mounted on monsters."

"That's terrible, my friend!"

"But that's not all, I'm afraid, apparently a strange illness accompanies them, in fact, this one is much faster because the neighboring villages already have sick people."

"What do the healers say?"

"They don't know what's going on, they can't do anything about it either. What can we do, Millita?

"Hmmm, first things first, I want to see the sick, I hope we can do something."

The royal entourage and its sovereign went to the nearest town hit by the smallpox disease, there again appeared the menus that only Millita could see.

As each time a problem appeared and this one found its solution somehow with the intervention of the semitransparent panels, Millita reasoned that this time she should pay attention to them.

"What is it, Millita?" asked Khirita.

"Friend, I want you to draw strange marks on the earth, which I will describe to you next."

Fortunately, the information on the panels was not only written, but was accompanied by lots of drawings, so that with a lot of effort the healers of the empire were able to discover a way to overcome the terrible disease which was spreading very quickly.

"Millita, reports tell us that we have stopped the advance of the strange disease," one of the quirquinchos informed her.

"Well, now there is the matter of those strange visitors who come from the north. Any news of them?"

"Apparently they wanted to convince the neighboring villages to unite against us, but since you Millita put an end to the wars and the forced tributes of our neighbors, no one lent a helping hand. Strangers march alone to the capital."

"Can you imagine what would have happened if those strange visitors had arrived right in the middle of the war between Atahualpa and Huáscar?"

"It would have been a disaster."

"That's right, now we're at peace and we must preserve this one."

"But what shall we do with those strange men who are coming here?"

Millita pondered and decided that deception and cheating were not a good thing, so she dictated that an invitation be sent to the strange travelers from the north.

.

.

Although the invitation gave free passage to Cusco, Pizarro decided to meet Millita in Cajamarca, ready to set a trap for her and capture her with what would become the new lord of those exotic lands.

"Millita? What a strange name, but it doesn't matter, soon I will be the viceroy of these lands and I will satisfy my appetite and thirst for gold," thought the Spanish conqueror, when his men informed him of the arrival of the imperial entourage.

Needless to say, Pizarro was surprised to discover that the sovereign of the Incas was nothing more and nothing less than an ordinary kitten with which he laughed with a beating jaw.

"I see that the ambush I prepared had no reason to be. This is going to be very simple."

"To me my men! Charge!"

The Spaniards advanced screaming as they held their harquebuses, while others rode their horses, accompanied by fierce dogs. Nothing seemed to contain the ferocious onslaught.

"Rainbow ray... Go!" That's what Millita exclaimed, and the invaders received the full power of the kitty.

The onslaught stopped and something strange happened to the Spaniards, including their animals. They all stood motionless as if wondering what they were doing in such a remote place.

"What was I doing with my life? Most importantly, what were we going to do with these poor people? I don't want the shine of gold anymore, the only shine I want now is the one that can come from a smile," thought Pizarro and then he got off his horse and approached the entourage, knelt down.

Millita didn't want to subdue anyone so she gave Pizarro her paw and he shook it, with this greeting everyone became friends.

The kitten smiled and then saw how a strange light enveloped her and everyone.

.

.

It was very late and a pretty young Afro"Bolivian girl was crying in front of the water mirror of the park where her friend disappeared. The wind blew through the clouds and gave way to the full moon whose image was reflected on the liquid surface.

Clara instinctively raised her gaze and with that observed a miracle: Millita emerged from the pre"Columbian observatory.

Both kitten and human saw each other and ran to fuse into an embrace, and the smiles shone as brightly as the stars of the La Paz sky, there, in a country called Bolivia.
