Millita isekai
Chapter 5: The Requirement
.
According to what Millita could observe, the bushes were not in the best conditions because of a drought that had hit the fields, they could try to bring water to the site but it would require a great effort on the part of everyone in the tribe and anyway, that did not guarantee that the coca leaves were ready for harvest.
"What can we do?" Said someone. Millita bought us some time but I don't think we can have a good harvest when the diggers come back.
"We can't do anything else but work very hard," said the chief, putting on a face of resignation. "Courage to all of you, if we work hard, our heavy work will soon be over."
"Until they demand more leaves of sleep." The kitten heard someone murmuring in the back.
No matter how bad things looked, everyone set to work, bringing water to the fields, not an easy task at all.
No one complained, but it was obvious from everyone's expression that they were very tired.
"We can't go on like this, there must be something we can do," thought Millita, but no matter how hard she tried to find a solution to the water problem, nothing came to mind that could help.
Frustrated, she looked closely at the coca bushes and a light appeared to come out of her eyes, a kind of light emanation of various colors.
Millita was surprised by the rapid lightning that disappeared as soon as it emerged. She approached the impacted bush and discovered to her surprise, that the wilted coca leaves were now seen fresh, full of greenery.
"I think that thing I used against the muddy ones was what gave the dream bushes," thought Millita and soon an idea came to mind, which she externalised to the chief of the tribe.
"Do you really think Millita can help us with the bushes with that attack you gave to the muddy ones," asked the chief of the village.
"I hope so, the leaves of the dream became very green, ready to be harvested."
"It's worth a try," said Khumpa.
"Let's use your power on one of the bushes, my friend" Khirita suggested, and everyone agreed.
They chose a leafy bush and Millita stood in front of it, as she tried to remember how it was that she did to defeat the muddy ones, the time they attacked her friends.
"How did I do it? "Oh, I remember!"
"Rainbow ray... Go!"
Again a luminous rainbow came out of the kitten's eyes and hit fully against the plant mass.
"Ohhh!" they all exclaimed as they watched as their new friend unfolded her power and they did more as they watched as the coca leaves regained their greenery.
"It's incredible, Millita! Now we will be able to collect enough sleep leaves to give to the diggers," said Khirita.
"I'm glad it worked. Well, now I've got to get down to work," said the cat putting her tail up proudly.
Millita repeated the process many times and in the end, all the bushes looked healthy, ready to be their leaves harvested, which was done next, except this time no one looked tired but cheerful, in fact, they sang a song as they worked.
Under the beautiful sun and on the fertile land we work
We're the quirquinchos. We always work.
Singing this happy song we work
When night comes we rest and laugh
Because in the day we do the work
We're the quirquinchos. We always work.
Singing this happy song we work
Under the beautiful sun and on the fertile land we work
.
A day's work went by and they already had the required quantity of coca leaves to give to the humans, and well they had achieved it since early in the morning, the humans reappeared, this time there were several and they carried spears with them.
"Diggers," said the chief of the village solemnly, "here we have the leaves of sleep. With this our debt is settled until the next harvest, depart well."
"First, let's check that you've given us all the leaves we asked for. You three, go check!" The chief of humans ordered about three individuals, the same ones Millita chased away. Their faces were wounded, not by the kitten's scratches, but by the chief's punchs when he saw that they had returned without the coca leaves.
"Everything seems to be right, boss," said one of the three.
"Well, that's fine for now. Listen quirquinchos, for the next harvest I want you to give us double."
"The double? That's too much, please be reasonable."
"I said double! Or else..."
Khompa apparently wanted to say something, but Khirita held him by the arm to prevent him from making any complaint.
"You're a bully! You can't ask that of us," shouted Millita, who went ahead and stood in front of the chief of humans.
"That's the otorongo we're talking about, boss," said one of the three humans who verified the coca leaves.
"You fools, this thing is not an otorongo, it looks more like a kind of margay."
"Hey, I'm not going to let you abuse my friends like that!" said Millita.
The human chief didn't understand a word Millita said, but he swallowed when he heard the cat hiss.
"You heard the quirquinchos. Next harvest, I want you to give us double or we're going to burn your huts."
They loaded the sacks with coca leaves and left without turning back. The quirquinchos looked at each other with concern.

It was night and Millita along with other of her friends, went to the human village thanks to Khompa's guide. They were not going to fight but they were carrying several sacks of coca leaves to try to negotiate about the next harvest.
Unlike the quirquincho village, the humans lived on very high ground and the so"called diggers had that name because they seemed to be engaged in mining.
When Millita spotted the human village and they were already on their way to talk to the local chief, they saw something that made them hide.
The chief of the village was badly beaten, apparently by other humans, who wore very different clothes; they wore some gold jewels. They were the Inca's soldiers.
