Katsaridaphobia!
'Sathiyama solren Sivu, oru nalaiku karappaan poochiya pathu thalatherikka oodi varrappo thadakki vilundhu kai kaala odachuka pora nee..'
Binni huffed and picked the dead cockroach in a plastic bag while Sivaangi flinched at her mom's activity, making Binni sigh in disbelief.
'Nalaiku vaazha pora veetla ipdi dha karappaan poochiya pathu alaritu ooda poriya?' Binni started her usual motherly advice making Sivaangi roll her eyes,
'Ma! olagathula endha moolaila irundhalum enaku cockroach na bayam dha..idha yaralayum matha mudiyadhu!'
'Ennamo pannu, aana un varungaala purushanoda edhirkalam enaku ipove kannu munnadi theridhu..'
Sivaangi twisted her lips and took her towel to walk towards the washroom while smirking,
'Enakaha en purushan karappaan poochiya vizhundhu vizhundhu adipaan..ni vena paru!'
Sivaangi got ready in a hurry as it was already late to her college. Today was the first day of her third semester of BSc, and a single cockroach spoiled the entire night, without letting her sleep.
She had to come up with many ways to escape the flying cockroach without calling her mother for help. She knew that her mother would literally kill her if she woke her up at 2AM.
The entire mortein spray bottle got finished during the cockroach killing process, and finally she had to pour a spoon of detergent powder and dettol on the cockroach which was at the edge of its last few seconds of life, lying upside down.
Approximately from 2AM to 4AM, she had to wait for the cockroach to come to her height, otherwise she would not be able to make the mission a success. Now, Sivaangi mentally cursed the cockroach which entered untimely into her room, spoiling her precious sleep.
'Aiyayoo, thookam thookama varudhe!'
Sivaangi's eyelids drooped due to lack of sleep. Her dhosthu Dharunya nudged her with her elbow, when Professor Pavadaisamy glared at the sleeping student,
'Sivaangi!'
When she heard her name, Sivaangi jerked and got up rubbing her eyes, while Mr Pavadai kept his hands on his waist,
'Inga na Chemistry la evlo important aana subject soli kuduthutu iruken, ni enana thoongitu iruka?'
Sivaangi smiled sheepishly, but suddenly a voice came from the boys' side,
'Sir, idhu Chemistry subject ahhh..'
Hearing the boy's voice, everyone laughed including Sivaangi. Mr Pavadai became furious,
'Dei, yevanda adhu..'
Looking at Sivaangi who fell back and laughed hysterically, he roared in annoyance,
'Sivaangi! thoonginadhu pathadhu nu sirikriya ni? get out of my class!'
He said, and turned towards the boys,
'Dei andha mootapoochi evana irundhalum unna nasukkama vida maten da naanu..'
Sivaangi walked through the corridor aimlessly while thinking of her fate. She clicked her tongue in annoyance when she got remembered that the study room was situated in the opposite side of which she was walking right now. It was a secluded area which has been constructed in a serene environment to facilitate self-learning.
During College hours, no students stay there as they all will be engaged in their morning lectures. As Sivaangi got chased out, she decided to go there and be there for some time, until Dharunya came.
'Na paatuku sevane nu thoongirupen, nethu en thookatha keduthu, innaiku en college day ah keduthu naasamakina andha cockroach mattum en kaila kedachudhu...' she huffed mentally, while her mind reminded her that she had already punished it,
'Adha olagathulaye endha karappan poochikum kedaikadha koduuramana saava adhuku kuduthutiye? apro enna? (smirks) Spyder BGM onnu matum dha nethu missing uh..'
Sivaangi rolled her eyes and walked almost near the study room, only to get dashed on a rigid frame. She hissed and looked up at the person whose eyes almost pierced hers, making her heart skip a beat. Ignoring the sudden overwhelming effect, she glared at him,
'Excuse me! munnadi pathu vara mateengala? ipdi dha vazhila poravangala idipeengala?'
She noticed him smiling at her amused. That smile definitely did something, but she ignored once again.
'Excuse me, neenga edho mind voice la pesikite vandhutu na idichen nu vera solreengala?'
When she heard him speak in a baritone voice, she felt something different inside her stomach. She gulped and looked at his brown orbs, trying hard to hide her feel,
'Ah..dha..bha, adha theridhu la na etho aazhndha sindhanai la varren nu? apo neenga velagi poga vendiyadhu dhane? (huffs) yarku theriyum? nalaiya India oda periya scientist ah kuda aahalam naanu..enoda thought process ah spoil pani India oda edhirkalathaye kuzhi thondi podhaikka pakreengala Mr?'
Hearing her, the young man in front of her laughed, making her glare. He lifted his hands to surrender, when her nostrils literally flared in anger.
'Sorry nga, neenga unga process ah continue panunga, na varren..'
'Varadheenga, apdiye poirunga!' she huffed and entered into the study room, but the next second she squealed and jumped out of the room, hugging someone very tightly.
'AIYO AMMA KARAPPANPOOCHIII!!!!"
Sivaangi closed her eyes tightly in fear and she didn't realise whom she was hugging until her raised heartbeat came down. She felt her heart almost jump out in fear when she noticed a big cockroach flying against her face when she entered the study room, blurring her senses. Her adrenaline pump automatically switched on to "fight or flight" mode and before thinking the next second, she jumped on someone, not realising anything.
She slowly opened her eyes when she heard no sounds of the cockroach, but hugged the person more tightly when it flew once again around her.
'AHHHHHH!'
The person who was hugged by her, stood there like a statue. He didn't expect the sudden action of her hugging him from behind. His heart skipped a beat when she pressed herself tightly on his back, making him gulp hard. He had not felt like this before; never in his life he allowed any girls in his private space, as he had never felt that spark with anyone, but this moment, he felt like something stirring up in his heart, and he didn't feel uncomfortable.
He felt her hyperventilating due to fear, and a smile crept his face when he witnessed the culprit who was responsible for her actions. He neither moved nor tried to remove her hold around him.
Sivaangi opened her eyes once again and sighed in relief when she didn't see the cockroach around her after a couple of minutes. She calmed down a bit and that's when she noticed her actions. She widened her eyes and suddenly withdrew herself from the person she was hugging and looked at the person in embarrassment when he turned towards her amused.
She was sure about how her face would look right at that moment; flushed due to embarrassment or probably shyness.
Sensing her thoughts, he chuckled and decided to ease the situation.
'Yen nga after all oru karappaanpoorchika ivlo bayapadreenga?'
Sivaangi looked at him offended and huffed,
'After all ah? patheenga la evlo periya karappanpoochi nu? (gives a disgusting look) yuck! mela vandhu okkarndhuchu na na lam sethe poiruven..' she exclaimed in fear, making him laugh,
'Iyo! adhu paavam nga, it's just an insect..onnume pannadhu..' he couldn't stop himself from admiring her cuteness with that fearful pout. His eyes stayed a bit longer on her naturally pink lips, but got distracted when she spoke,
'Yaru nga sonna? it can carry a variety of diseases..adha kuda vidunga..kadikkum nga adhu..valikkum theriyuma..' she whined.
'Edheyy?' he laughed once again, making her glare.
'Hello! ungala vida enaku jaasthiyave theriyum...na lam cockroaches pathi padichu pattam vaangra alavuku neraya refer pani padichiruke, romba dha..' she twisted her lips, making him smile in amusement.
'Ohh! super nga..' he made a super sign, making her huff,
'Enna nakkala?'
'Che che..' he hid his amusement, making her roll her eyes,
'Ponga sir..kelambunga..vantaru perisa..inga avanavanukku uyire pogudhu..' she murmured the last part, making him chuckle and turn to leave, but stopped in his tracks.
He turned towards her who stood there with her hands crossed with a cute anger, and a smile adorned his face when he said the next words,
'Na epovo kelambiten, neenga dha pudichu vachirundheenga..'
Sivaangi widened her eyes and noticed him smirking before he turned swiftly and left the place, bringing a smile on her face. She reminisced the moment they shared a while ago and felt her heart quicken. She didn't know why but she didn't regret her actions. She hit her forehead when she felt embarrassed in front of the man who attracted her at the very moment.
'Chei! azhagana paiyan munnadi ipdi ayiruche!'
During the break, Sivaangi found a way to sleep in the canteen, making Dharunya eye her in disbelief,
'Aaga mothathula oru cockroach un day aye gaali paniruchu la Sivu?'
Sivaangi's eyelids drooped due to lack of sleep and she nodded her head weakly.
'Aama, yaru andha paiyan?'
Sivaangi was tired enough to forget everything right now and she looked at Dharunya in confusion,
'Adha di, kalaila yarayo idicha nu soniye?'
Sivaangi quickly intervened,
'Na idikala, avan dha enna idichaan..'
Dharunya smiled amusingly,
'Aama aama, madam theliva irukeenga andha paiyan dha thoongite nadandhu vandhaan..'
Dharunya clicked her tongue when Sivaangi glared at her.
'Seri, yaru adhu? namma college na idhu varaikum oru vaatiyadhu pathirupomla?'
Sivaangi shrugged her shoulders,
'Vera department ah kuda irukalam la?'
Dharunya hummed in response and continued,
'Paka epdi irundhaan?'
For a second, Sivaangi's mind went back to that pair of brown orbs which held her eyes in place so strong that it made a great effect in her at the very moment. An involuntary smile crept her face, while she imagined his manly yet cute face. She edited the happenings after she saw the cockroach at the study room because she knew that Dharunya would tease her if she say so.
But what Sivaangi didn't expect was the next words which she said for the first time in sighting boys,
'Haan, pakka husband material di..semmaya dha irundhaan..worth uh..' Sivaangi said dreamily, making Dharunya frown,
'Ivalo naal pakra azhagana paiyana laam crush material nu soluva, adhenna pudhusa husband material?'
Sivaangi thought for a while. She too didn't know why she said that, but she felt it. She felt an unknown warmth when she hugged him. Even if it was from behind, she was able to feel her senses calm down in his proximity. She successfully composed herself and shrugged before sparing a look at Dharunya,
'Therila, thonichu..sonen..enamo po, aana na sight adikra mood la irukala..' Sivaangi pouted, making Dharunya smirk,
'Ohh..sighting mode la iladha appove avlo details sonna? apo andha mode la irundhirundha evlo solirupa la?'
Sivaangi smiled sheepishly and escaped her friend's teasing, keeping aside her sudden change of effects when she met the owner of those killing pair of eyes.
Dharunya pestered her to go home without staying back for the evening sessions but Sivaangi denied it, because she knew that her mother would pull a stunt if she did so.
Sivaangi bid bye to Dharunya, soon after the lectures got over. Dharunya had to stay back for a project work and Sivaangi was left with no one to accompany her. She skipped the session due to extreme tiredness and assured the group that she would catch it up in the next session.
While she was walking towards the entrance, her eyes involuntarily searched the person she met that morning. She pouted when she couldn't find him and left home.
Since that, whenever she got to deal with a cockroach, an involuntary smile crept her face apart from the fear and anxiety she still had for cockroaches.
'Oru vela bayathula paithiyam mutheerucho? sethu pona karappanpoochiya pathu sirichutu irukaa?' Binni eyes her daughter in worry, not knowing the actual reason behind her stupid smile.
Months rolled and Sivaangi entered her final year leisurely until Binni revealed a shocking news to her.
'Innaiku namma mapla paka porom Sivu..'
'Enadheyy? ma veladriya? ipo yaru kalyanamlam ketaa unkita?' Sivaangi was furious, making Binni sigh,
'Inga paru, nanga onnum pakala, avangalave ketu vandhanga..andha paiyan unna engeyo pathu avanuku pudichu poiruchaam..unna kalyanam panikanum nu aasapadraan..'
Sivaangi looked at her mother in disbelief,
'Yema? yaru ne theriyadhu, avanuku enna pathu pudicha podhuma? enaku pudika vendama? modhalla na inum College eh mudikala, adhukulla enna ma avasaram?' Sivaangi whined louder, making Binni sigh and walk towards her,
'Unna yarum ipove okay solanum nu force panala, paru..pudichirundha un padipu mudinchadhuku apro kalyanam, ilana edhadhu solikalam..seriya?'
Sivaangi glared at her mother. She was already in search of that cockroach man who impressed her that day. Since that none of others had affected her this deep. She didn't know what sort of feeling it was. Also, she didn't have any idea regarding his whereabouts. Still, she didn't want to jump into a decision about her feelings until her mother dropped a bomb today.
'Engayachum mapla pakradhuku ponnu veetu karanga povangala?' Sivaangi tried her luck to stop today's visit,
'Adhelam povanga..paiyanuku edho urgent work vandhuruchaam, ilana avanga dha vandhirupaanga..avanga veetla innaiku nalla nerathula epdiyadhu pesiranum nu nenaikranga, so namma porom..'
Sivaangi got dressed in a simple peach-colored soft silk saree, adorning herself with a simple makeup and accessories. She left her hair lose, opposing her mother's pestering who argued with her to plait her hair.
Giving up in the argument, Binni left her daughter as per wish and they left to the boy's house. Sivaangi was skeptical about talking this with her father as she knew about his seriousness when it came to her marriage. She decided to go with her mother's idea and reject the groom after visiting their place.
'Ponnu romba azhaga irukaa..enga kanne patrum pola iruku..' a middle aged woman, probably the groom's mother, caressed Sivaangi's hair who stood there with an awkward smile.
'Okkarunga, dho..avankita solitu vandhuren..'
Sivaangi bent to her mother's ear and whispered,
'Yemma, paiyan coffee tray lam thookitu varuvaana? apove reject paniratta?'
Binni glared at her daughter, who smiled sheepishly,
'Morapadi patha andha paiyanukaha nanga lam feel dha pananum, pavam..unna poi pudichiruku nu solitaan..'
Sivaangi huffed and straightened herself while the woman entered the hall,
'Sadangu sambradhayam lam vendam, pasanga manasu vitu pesikatum..adhuve podhum..'
Sivaangi sighed in relief when they behaved not like typical parents but somewhere modernized so that her work would be easy.
She smiled and walked upstairs when his mother guided her towards the rooftop. She walked upstairs and frowned when there was no one in the balcony. Her eyes landed on the beautiful morning sky with hues of blue. She stood there admiring it, until she heard a base voice ringing in her ear,
'Hii!'
She jerked and turned towards the voice, only to gasp.
'Neeya?!'
He chuckled at her pei aranja face before his eyes descended down to admire her draped in a simple yet elegant saree.
'Hmm..naane adhu naane..' he bowed his head, but she was not still out of her shock. Sivaangi couldn't believe her own eyes. She was searching for him all these days, but now, he is here, standing in front of her which felt like a dream.
'Nee..neenga..inga enna panreenga? apo mapla paka..' she couldn't form words and he chuckled at her confusion. He crossed his arms with an amused smile, while Sivaangi finally formed her words,
'Unga veetla yarayo dha na mapla paka vandhirukena?'
He widened his eyes in disbelief,
'Ma! indha veetla kalyana vayasula irukra ore oruthan na dha..' he whined, making her slowly realise everything,
'Oh..apo ungalku dha kalyanama?' she asked confused, while he took a step forward, making her heart skip a beat. She felt his hot breath fanning her face, and his eyes pierced into hers,
'Enaku illa, namaku..'
Sivaangi couldn't control the butterflies she felt in her stomach. She didn't expect this to happen. She went in search of the man she admired in a different way from all the other men. In the discovery process, she slowly started to realise what it was. But the life has surprised her with an adventure which turned out to be sweet.
'Adh..adhu..n..neen..' she stuttered while he understood her plight and distanced himself from her, controlling his urge to hug her at that moment,
'Same college..past senior dha na, annaiku oru velaiya college vandhappo dha unna pathe..annaiku pathappove unna romba pudichu poiruchu..'
Sivaangi widened her eyes, and he continued,
'Annaiku na feel pannadhu ennadhu nu kandupudika enaku romba naal agala, aana adha realise pannappo indha feel enaku vera yarukitayum inime varadhu nu purinjuchu..'
'Unake theriyama un pinadi vandhiruken..(chuckles) adha ni stalk panradhu nu kuda vachukalam, aana adha rasichen nu na soluven..'
Sivaangi tried to control her blush, but miserably failed. Everything felt like a dream when the man she admired, opened his heart to her.
'Apro yena, idhuku mela yosikradhuku edhume ila..unkita vandhu apro un appa ammakita vandhu pesradhuku lam kandippa enaku porumai illa nu thonuchu..(chuckles) already 30 years waste paniyachu, ithuku mela waste pana vendame nu..adha..directave un appa ammakita pesite..'
Sivaangi felt her world spinning. She stood there speechless. She tried to contemplate his words while he smiled and broke her trance,
'Ni porumaya solu, unaku pudichirundha matum dha idhelam..ni padichu mudichu un ishtapadi work panalam, unakana time, space idha yarayum unkiterndhu parikka na vida maten..enaku unna romba pudichiruku..avlo dha..(in deep voice) if I am not wrong, en kannula ipo enna theridho, adhu un kannulayum enaku theridhu, we are in the same boat nu enaku thonudhu..' he smiled, making her heart skip a beat.
'Enaku..' she dragged while he intervened,
'Unaku evlo time venumo eduthuko..' he uttered seriously,
'Pch, adhu illa..enaku oru doubt uh..'
He frowned at her,
'Ennadhu?'
'Aama, apdi ungalku enkita enna pudichiruku?'
Ashwin looked into her eyes and realised how innocent she was to understand the depth of his love. Yet, he was ready to explore more with her, as he admired this woman in front of him with all his life.
But for now, he decided to tease her,
'Unma solatuma poi solatuma?'
She looked at him amused,
'Rendume solunga...'
He smirked and continued,
'Oh, rendu answer ah..adhelam enaku kai vandha kalai..' he said, while she frowned but soon brushed it off.
'Solunga..'
'First, unmaya solidren..' he looked into her eyes and spoke,
'Unkita enna dha pudichudhu nu thedi thedi, sathiyama solren Sivaangi..ipo varaikum unkita enaku enna pudichiruku nu therila..enna pudikala nu vena ni kekalam..' he gave a simple answer, yet Sivaangi could see the genuineness in his eyes and felt her heart warm at his reply.
Even though they stood in a considerable distance, the intensity of his gaze and voice were enough to make her feel suffocating in his love, in a good way.
'Ipo..poi enanu solatta?'
She frowned while he chuckled and continued,
'Annaiku karappanpoochiya pathu avlo bayandhu enna vandhu irukki kattti pudichiye? adhu romba pudichirundhuchu..'
Sivaangi gasped at his words and glared at him,
'Apo kattipudichadhu pudikala nu solreengala sir?' she crossed her arms against her chest with a smirk,
'Hmm..apdinu sola mudiyadhu..odane semmaya irunchu nu sonna enna nee thappa eduthuka mata?' he exclaimed, making her widen her eyes with a blush,
'Heyyy!' she lifted her hand involuntarily to smack his arm, but jerked when he shouted a little,
'Ei karappaanpoochi!!!'
Sivaangi squealed and hugged him tightly, this time from front, making him smile wider, and hug her back. Sivaangi buried her face in his chest and spoke against his chest with trembling voice, creating a havoc inside him. He hugged her back tightly sing the chance, while she was not yet realised his kedi thanam.
'Enga enga? iyoo pleaseee thorathunga!!! enaku bayama iruku..' she said, making him laugh. That's when she realised about his trick. She abruptly withdrew herself from him and smacked his chest, making him hiss,
'Ahh! valikudhu ma..'
He held her hands while stopping her hands from hitting him, making her gasp. His eyes bored into hers,
'Life long unakaha, un purushana irundhu, unna disturb panra karappaanpoochiya lam vizhundu vizhundu adikka na ready..'
Sivaangi chuckled at the way he expressed his feelings. Ignoring the kulukulu sensation when she said "purushan", she glared at him, but it changed into a blushy smile, when he gently pulled her towards him and hugged her by her waist.
She looked at him with utmost shyness, while he leaned front to look into her eyes,
'Enna purushana ethuka neenga readya, varungaala Mrs. Ashwinkumar?'
